(LXX 11)

AlexandrinusVaticanus

To the chief Musician on Sheminith, A Psalm of David.

To the end, A Psalm of David, on the eighth. To the end, A Psalm of David, on the eighth.

1 Help, Yahweh; for the godly man ceases; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

1 Save me, Oh Lord, because the devout one has failed; because the truth is sparse among the sons of men. 1 Save me, Oh Lord, because the devout one has failed; because the truth is sparse among the sons of men.

2 They speak vanity everyone with his neighbour; with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

2 Each one spoke worthless things to his neighbour; lips are deceitful, they have spoken in heart and in heart. 2 Each one spoke worthless things to his neighbour; lips are deceitful, they have spoken in heart and in heart.

3 Yahweh shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things;

3 May the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips and a boastful tongue; 3 May the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips and a boastful tongue;

4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?

τὴν γλῶσσαν ἡμῶν μεγαλυνοῦμεν, τὰ χείλη ἡμῶν παρ’ ἡμῶν ἐστιν τίς ἡμῶν κύριός ἐστιν;
4 τοὺς εἰπόντας· τὴν γλῶσσαν ἡμῶν μεγαλυνοῦμεν, τὰ χείλη ἡμῶν παρ’ ἡμῖν ἔστι· τίς ἡμῶν Κύριός ἐστιν;
4 who have said,
We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own; who is our Lord?
4 who have said,
We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own; who is our Lord?

5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says Yahweh; I will set him in safety from him who puffs at him.

5
5
From the misery of the poor, and from the groaning of the needy, now I will rise up, says the Lord,
I will set in safety; I will act boldly with it.
5
From the misery of the poor, and from the groaning of the needy, now I will rise up, says the Lord,
I will set in safety; I will act boldly with it.

6 The words of Yahweh are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

6 The sayings of the Lord are pure sayings; as silver refined by fire, tested for dirt, cleansed seven times. 6 The sayings of the Lord are pure sayings; as silver refined by fire, tested for dirt, cleansed seven times.

7 You shall keep them, Oh Yahweh, you shall preserve them from this generation for ever.

7 You, Oh Lord, will guard us, and will preserve us, from this generation, and for ever. 7 You, Oh Lord, will guard us, and will preserve us, from this generation, and for ever.

8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

8 The impious walk around in a circle; according to your greatness you highly esteemed the sons of men. 8 The impious walk around in a circle; according to your greatness you highly esteemed the sons of men.
