Prophecy about Egypt and Ethiopia

1 In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it;

1 In the year that Tanathan entered Azōtos, when he was sent by Arna, king of the Assyrians, and battled against Azōtos and captured it, 1 In the year that Tanathan entered Azōtos, when he was sent by Arna, king of the Assyrians, and battled against Azōtos and captured it,

2 At the same time spoke Yahweh by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off your loins, and put off your shoe from your foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

2 then the Lord spoke to Ēsaias, saying, “Go, and take off the sackcloth from your loins, and untie your sandals off your feet,” and he did so, walking naked and barefoot. 2 then the Lord spoke to Ēsaias, saying, “Go, and take off the sackcloth from your loins, and untie your sandals off your feet,” and he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

3 And Yahweh said, Like as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder on Egypt and on Ethiopia;

3 And the Lord said, “In the manner that my servant Ēsaias has walked naked and barefoot for three years, there will be signs and premonitions to the Aigyptians and Aithiopians, 3 And the Lord said, “In the manner that my servant Hēsaias has walked naked and barefoot for three years, there will be signs and premonitions to the Aigyptians and Aithiopians,

4 So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

4 because thus shall the king of the Assyrians lead away the captives of Aigypt and of the Aithiopians, young and old, naked and barefoot, having uncovered the shame of Aigypt. 4 because thus shall the king of the Assyrians lead away the captives of Aigypt and of the Aithiopians, young and old, naked and barefoot, having uncovered the shame of Aigypt.

5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

5 And the Aigyptians, having been defeated, shall be ashamed because of the Aithiopians, in whom the Aigyptians had trusted, for they were their glory. 5 And the Aigyptians, having been defeated, shall be ashamed because of the Aithiopians, in whom the Aigyptians had trusted, for they were their glory.

6 And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, to which we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?

6 καὶ ἐροῦσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν τῇ νήσῳ ταύτῃ ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἦμεν πεποιθότες τοῦ φυγεῖν εἰς αὐτοὺς εἰς βοήθειαν, οἳ οὐκ ἐδύναντο σωθῆναι ἀπὸ βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων· καὶ πῶς ἡμεῖς σωθησόμεθα;
6 καὶ ἐροῦσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν τῇ νήσῳ ταύτῃ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ· ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἦμεν πεποιθότες τοῦ φυγεῖν εἰς αὐτοὺς εἰς βοήθειαν, οἳ οὐκ ἠδύναντο σωθῆναι ἀπὸ βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων· καὶ πῶς ἡμεῖς σωθησόμεθα;
6 And those who dwell in this island will say, ‛Look! We had trusted to flee to them for help, who wasn’t able to be saved from the king of the Assyrians! And we, how shall we be saved?’ ” 6 And those who dwell in this island will say, ‛Look! We had trusted to flee to them for help, who wasn’t able to be saved from the king of the Assyrians! And we, how shall we be saved?’ ”
