David’s Kindness to Mephibosheth

1 And David said, “Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

1 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυὶδ εἰ ἔστιν ἔτι ὑπολελειμμένος τῷ οἴκῳ Σαοὺλ καὶ ποιήσω μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος ἕνεκεν Ἰωνάθαν; 1 Καὶ εἶπε Δαυίδ· εἰ ἐστιν ἔτι ὑπολελειμμένος ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Σαοὺλ καὶ ποιήσω μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος ἕνεκεν Ἰωνάθαν;
1 And David said, “Is there still anyone left of the house of Saoul, and I will show mercy to him for Jōnathan’s sake,” 1 And David said, “Is there still anyone left of the house of Saoul, and I will show mercy to him for Jōnathan’s sake,”

2 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him to David, the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” And he said, “Your servant is he.”

καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν βασιλεύς εἰ σὺ εἶ Σιβά;
2 καὶ ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Σαοὺλ ἦν παῖς, καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Σιβά, καὶ καλοῦσιν αὐτὸν πρὸς Δαυίδ· καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτὸν βασιλεὺς· σὺ εἶ Σιβά;
2 and there was a servant from the house of Saoul, and his name was Siba, and they called him to David. And the king said to him, “Are you Siba?” And he said, “I am your subject.” 2 and there was a servant from the house of Saoul, and his name was Siba, and they called him to David. And the king said to him, “Are you Siba?” And he said, “I am your subject.”

3 And the king said, “Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” And Ziba said to the king, “Jonathan has yet a son, who is lame on his feet.”

3 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεύς εἰ ὑπολέλειπται ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Σαοὺλ ἔτι ἀνὴρ καὶ ποιήσω μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος θεοῦ;
3 καὶ εἶπε βασιλεύς· εἰ ὑπολέλειπται ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Σαοὺλ ἔτι ἀνὴρ καὶ ποιήσω μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος Θεοῦ;
3 And the king said, “Is there still a man remaining from the house of Saoul, and I will show the mercy of God to him,” and Siba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jōnathan injured in the feet.” 3 And the king said, “Is there still a man remaining from the house of Saoul, and I will show the mercy of God to him,” and Siba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jōnathan injured in the feet.”

4 And the king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.”

4 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεύς ποῦ οὗτος;
4 καὶ εἶπε βασιλεύς· ποῦ οὗτος;
4 And the king said, “Where is he?” And Siba said to the king, “Look! in the house of Machir son of Amiel from Ladabar.” 4 And the king said, “Where is he?” And Siba said to the king, “Look! in the house of Machir son of Amiel from Ladabar.”

5 Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.

5 And King David sent and took him from the house of Machir son of Amiel from Ladabar. 5 And King David sent and took him from the house of Machir son of Amiel from Ladabar.

6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, “Mephibosheth.” And he answered, “Behold your servant!”

6 And Memphibosthe son of Jōnathan son of Saoul came to King David and fell on his face and did obeisance to him. And David said to him, “Memphibosthe,” and he said, “Look! your subject.” 6 And Memphibosthe son of Jōnathan son of Saoul came to King David and fell on his face and did obeisance to him. And David said to him, “Memphibosthe,” and he said, “Look! your subject.”

7 And David said to him, “Fear not; for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore you all the land of Saul your father; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.”

7 And David said to him, “Stop being afraid, for while doing, I will show mercy to you on account of your father Jōnathan, and I will restore to you every field of Saoul, father of your father, and you shall eat bread at my table always.” 7 And David said to him, “Stop being afraid, for while doing, I will show mercy to you on account of your father Jōnathan, and I will restore to you every field of Saoul, father of your father, and you shall eat bread at my table always.”

8 And he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look on such a dead dog as I am?”

8 καὶ προσεκύνησεν Μεμφιβοσθὲ καὶ εἶπεν τίς εἰμι δοῦλός σου, ὅτι ἐπέβλεψας ἐπὶ τὸν κύνα τὸν τεθνηκότα τὸν ὅμοιον ἐμοί; 8 καὶ προσεκύνησε Μεμφιβοσθέ καὶ εἶπε· τίς εἰμι δοῦλός σου, ὅτι ἐπέβλεψας ἐπὶ τὸν κύνα τὸν τεθνηκότα τὸν ὅμοιον ἐμοί;
8 And Memphibosthe did obeisance and said, “Who am I, your subject, that you looked on a dead dog like me?” 8 And Memphibosthe did obeisance and said, “Who am I, your subject, that you looked on a dead dog like me?”

9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “I have given to your master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.

9 And the king called Saoul’s youth Siba and said to him, “All that belongs to Saoul and to his whole house I have given to your master’s son, 9 And the king called Saoul’s youth Siba and said to him, “All that belongs to Saoul and to his whole house I have given to your master’s son,

10 You therefore, and your sons, and your servants, shall till the land for him, and you shall bring in the fruits, that your master’s son may have food to eat; but Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread always at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and 20 servants.

10 and you shall till the land for him, you and your sons and your subjects, and you shall bring in foods to your master’s son, and he shall eat them, and your master’s son Memphibosthe shall always eat food at my table.” (And Siba had 15 sons and 20 slaves.) 10 and you shall till the land for him, you and your sons and your subjects, and you shall bring in foods to your master’s son, and he shall eat them, and your master’s son Memphibosthe shall always eat food at my table.” (And Siba had 15 sons and 20 slaves.)

11 Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king has commanded his servant, so shall your servant do.” “As for Mephibosheth,” said the king, “he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.”

11 And Siba said to the king, “According to all that my master the king has commanded his subject, so your subject will do.” And Memphibosthe used to eat at David’s table like one of the king’s sons. 11 And Siba said to the king, “According to all that my master the king has commanded his subject, so your subject will do.” And Memphibosthe used to eat at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.

12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants for Mephibosheth.

12 And Memphibosthe had a young son and his name was Micha. And all the household of Siba’s house became Memphibosthe’s subjects. 12 And Memphibosthe had a young son and his name was Micha. And all the household of Siba’s house became Memphibosthe’s subjects.

13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem; for he ate continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.

13 And Memphibosthe kept living in Jerousalēm, for he always used to eat at the king’s table, and he was lame in both his feet. 13 And Memphibosthe kept living in Jerousalēm, for he always used to eat at the king’s table, and he was lame in both his feet.
