A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Idumea. A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Idumea.

1 Oh God, you are my God; early will I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

ποσαπλῶς σοί σάρξ μου ἐν γῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ ἀβάτῳ καὶ ἀνύδρῳ;
1 Oh God, my God, I cry to you early; my soul has thirsted for you; how often has my flesh longed after you, in a barren and trackless and dry land! 1 Oh God, my God, I cry to you early; my soul has thirsted for you; how often has my flesh longed after you, in a barren and trackless and dry land!

2 To see your power and your glory, so as I have seen you in the sanctuary.

2 Thus have I appeared before you in the sanctuary, that I might see your power and your glory. 2 Thus have I appeared before you in the sanctuary, that I might see your power and your glory.

3 Because your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise you.

3 For your mercy is better than life; my lips shall praise you. 3 For your mercy is better than life; my lips shall praise you.

4 Thus will I bless you while I live; I will lift up my hands in your name.

4 Thus will I bless you during my life; I will lift up my hands in your name. 4 Thus will I bless you during my life; I will lift up my hands in your name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips;

5 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and my joyful lips shall praise your name. 5 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and my joyful lips shall praise your name.

6 When I remember you on my bed, and meditate on you in the night watches.

6 Forasmuch as I have remembered you on my bed; in the early seasons I have meditated on you. 6 Forasmuch as I have remembered you on my bed; in the early seasons I have meditated on you.

7 Because you have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings will I rejoice.

7 For you have been my helper, and in the shelter of your wings will I rejoice. 7 For you have been my helper, and in the shelter of your wings will I rejoice.

8 My soul follows hard after you; your right hand upholds me.

8 My soul has kept very close behind you; your right hand has upheld me. 8 My soul has kept very close behind you; your right hand has upheld me.

9 But those who seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

9 But they vainly sought after my soul; they shall go into the lowest parts of the earth. 9 But they vainly sought after my soul; they shall go into the lowest parts of the earth.

10 They shall fall by the sword; they shall be a portion for foxes.

10 They shall be delivered up to the power of the sword; they shall be portions for foxes. 10 They shall be delivered up to the power of the sword; they shall be portions for foxes.

11 But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by him shall glory; but the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.

11 But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by him shall be praised; for the mouth of those who speak unjust things has been stopped. 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by him shall be praised; for the mouth of those who speak unjust things has been stopped.
