To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.

For the end, a Psalm of David for Idithun. For the end, a Psalm of David for Idithun.

1 Truly my soul waits on God; from him comes my salvation.

1 Οὐχὶ τῷ θεῷ ὑποταγήσεται ψυχή μου;
1 Οὐχὶ τῷ Θεῷ ὑποταγήσεται ψυχή μου;
1 Shall not my soul be subjected to God? For of him is my salvation. 1 Shall not my soul be subjected to God? For of him is my salvation.

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

2 For he is my God, and my saviour; my helper, I shall not be moved very much. 2 For he is my God, and my saviour; my helper, I shall not be moved very much.

3 How long will you imagine mischief against a man? You shall be slain all of you; as a bowing wall you shall be, and as a tottering fence.

3 ἕως πότε ἐπιτίθεσθε ἐπ’ ἄνθρωπον;
3 ἕως πότε ἐπιτίθεσθε ἐπ’ ἄνθρωπον;
3 How long will you assault a man? You are all slaughtering as with a bowed wall and a broken hedge. 3 How long will you assault a man? You are all slaughtering as with a bowed wall and a broken hedge.

4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency; they delight in lies; they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

4 They only took counsel to set at nought my honour; I ran in thirst; with their mouth they blessed, but with their heart they cursed. Pause. 4 They only took counsel to set at nought my honour; I ran in thirst; with their mouth they blessed, but with their heart they cursed. Pause.

5 My soul, wait only on God; for my expectation is from him.

5 Nevertheless, my soul, be subjected to God; for of him is my patient hope. 5 Nevertheless, my soul, be subjected to God; for of him is my patient hope.

6 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

6 For he is my God and my Saviour; my helper, I shall not be moved. 6 For he is my God and my Saviour; my helper, I shall not be moved.

7 In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

7 In God is my salvation and my glory; he is the God of my help, and my hope is in God. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; he is the God of my help, and my hope is in God.

8 Trust in him at all times; you people, pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

8 Hope in him, all you congregation of the people; pour out your hearts before him, for God is our helper. Pause. 8 Hope in him, all you congregation of the people; pour out your hearts before him, for God is our helper. Pause.

9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie; to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

9 But the sons of men are vain; the sons of men are false, so as to be deceitful in the balances; they are all alike formed out of vanity. 9 But the sons of men are vain; the sons of men are false, so as to be deceitful in the balances; they are all alike formed out of vanity.

10 Don’t trust in oppression, and become not vain in robbery; if riches increase, don’t set your heart on them.

10 Don’t trust in unrighteousness, and don’t lust after robberies; if wealth should flow in, don’t set your heart on it. 10 Don’t trust in unrighteousness, and don’t lust after robberies; if wealth should flow in, don’t set your heart on it.

11 God has spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs to God.

11 God has spoken once, and I have heard these two things, that power is of God; 11 God has spoken once, and I have heard these two things, that power is of God;

12 Also to you, Oh Lord, belongs mercy; for you render to every man according to his work.

12 and mercy is yours, Oh Lord; for you will recompense everyone according to his works. 12 and mercy is yours, Oh Lord; for you will recompense everyone according to his works.
