Job Rebukes Bildad

1 But Job answered and said,

1 But Job answered and said, 1 But Job answered and said,

2 How have you helped him who is without power? How saves you the arm that has no strength?

2 τίνι πρόσκεισαι τίνι μέλλεις βοηθεῖν;
πότερον οὐχ πολλὴ ἰσχὺς καὶ βραχίων κραταιός ἐστιν;
2 τίνι πρόσκεισαι τίνι μέλλεις βοηθεῖν;
πότερον, οὐχ πολλὴ ἰσχὺς καὶ βραχίων κραταιός ἔστι;
2 To whom do you attach yourself, or whom are you going to assist? Is it not he who has much strength, and he who has a strong arm? 2 To whom do you attach yourself, or whom are you going to assist? Is it not he who has much strength, and he who has a strong arm?

3 How have you counselled him who has no wisdom? And how have you plentifully declared the thing as it is?

3 τίνι συμβεβούλευσαι;
οὐχ πᾶσα σοφία;
τίνι ἐπακολουθήσεις;
οὐχ μεγίστη δύναμις;
3 τίνι συμβεβούλευσαι;
οὐχ πᾶσα σοφία;
τίνι ἐπακολουθήσεις;
οὐχ μεγίστη δύναμις;
3 To whom have you given counsel? Is it not to him who has all wisdom? Whom will you follow? Is it not one who has the greatest power? 3 To whom have you given counsel? Is it not to him who has all wisdom? Whom will you follow? Is it not one who has the greatest power?

4 To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit came from you?

4 τίνι ἀνήγγειλας ῥήματα;
πνοὴ δὲ τίνος ἐστὶν ἐξελθοῦσα ἐκ σου;
4 τίνι ἀνήγγειλας ῥήματα;
πνοὴ δὲ τίνος ἐστὶν ἐλθοῦσα ἐκ σοῦ;
4 To whom have you uttered words? And whose breath is it that has come forth from you? 4 To whom have you uttered words? And whose breath is it that has come forth from you?

Job: God is Great

5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants of it.

5 μὴ γίγαντες μαιωθήσονται ὑποκάτωθεν ὕδατος καὶ τῶν γειτόνων αὐτοῦ; 5 μὴ γίγαντες μαιωθήσονται ὑποκάτωθεν ὕδατος καὶ τῶν γειτόνων αὐτοῦ;
5 Shall giants be born from under the water and the inhabitants of it? 5 Shall giants be born from under the water and the inhabitants of it?

6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.

6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering. 6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.

7 He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth on nothing.

7 He stretches out the north wind on nothing, and he on nothing hangs the earth; 7 He stretches out the north wind on nothing, and he on nothing hangs the earth;

8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.

8 binding water in his clouds, and the cloud is not rent under it. 8 binding water in his clouds, and the cloud is not rent under it.

9 He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it.

9 He keeps back the face of his throne, stretching out his cloud on it. 9 He keeps back the face of his throne, stretching out his cloud on it.

10 He has surrounded the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

10 He has encircled the face of the water by an appointed ordinance, until the end of light and darkness. 10 He has encircled the face of the water by an appointed ordinance, until the end of light and darkness.

11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

11 The pillars of heaven are prostrate and astonished at his rebuke. 11 The pillars of heaven are prostrate and astonished at his rebuke.

12 He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smites through the proud.

12 He has calmed the sea with his might, and by his wisdom the whale has been overthrown. 12 He has calmed the sea with his might, and by his wisdom the whale has been overthrown.

13 By his spirit he has garnished the heavens; his hand has formed the crooked serpent.

13 And the barriers of heaven fear him, and by a command he has slain the apostate dragon. 13 And the barriers of heaven fear him, and by a command he has slain the apostate dragon.

14 Lo, these are parts of his ways; but how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of his power who can understand?

14 ἰδοὺ ταῦτα μέρη ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ ἰκμάδα λόγου ἀκουσόμεθα ἐν αὐτῷ· σθένος δὲ βροντῆς αὐτοῦ τίς οἶδεν ὁπότε ποιήσει; 14 ἰδοὺ ταῦτα μέρη ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ ἰκμάδα λόγου ἀκουσόμεθα ἐν αὐτῷ· σθένος δὲ βροντῆς αὐτοῦ τίς οἶδεν ὁπότε ποιήσει;
14 Behold, these are parts of his way; and we will listen to him at the least intimation of his word; but the strength of his thunder who knows, when he shall employ it? 14 Behold, these are parts of his way; and we will listen to him at the least intimation of his word; but the strength of his thunder who knows, when he shall employ it?
