Psalm 14
(LXX 13)

AlexandrinusVaticanus

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

For the end, Psalm of David. For the end, Psalm of David.

1 The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.

1 The fool said in his heart,
There is no God.
They corrupted and became abominable in their pursuits; there is no one doing goodness, there is not as much as one.
1 They corrupted and became abominable in their pursuits; there is no one doing goodness, there is not as much as one.

2 Yahweh looked down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there were any who understand, and seek God.

2 From heaven, the Lord looked down on the sons of men, to see if there were any who understands or seeks for God. 2 From heaven, the Lord looked down on the sons of men, to see if there were any who understands or seeks for God.

3 They are all gone aside, they are altogether become filthy; there is none who does good, no, not one.

3 All turned away, together they are unprofitable, there is none who does good, no not one. Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they were deceiving; the poison of asps is under their lips; whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they haven’t known; there is no fear of God before their eyes. 3 All turned away, together they are unprofitable, there is none who does good, no not one.

4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not on Yahweh.

4 Οὐχὶ γνώσονται πάντες οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν, οἱ κατεσθίοντες τὸν λαόν μου βρώσει ἄρτου;
4 οὐχὶ γνώσονται πάντες οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν;
4 Will all the workers of iniquity not know, who eat up my people like eating bread? They didn’t call on the Lord. 4 Will all the workers of iniquity not know, who eat up my people like eating bread? They didn’t call on the Lord.

5 There were they in great fear; for God is in the generation of the righteous.

5 They alarmed with fear there, where there was no fear; because God is in a righteous generation. 5 They alarmed with fear there, where there was no fear; because God is in a righteous generation.

6 You have shamed the counsel of the poor, because Yahweh is his refuge.

6 You shamed the plan of the poor, because the Lord is his confidence. 6 You shamed the plan of the poor, because the Lord is his confidence.

7 Oh that the salvation of Israēl would come out of Zion! when Yahweh brings back the captivity of his people, Jacōb shall rejoice, and Israēl shall be glad.

7 τίς δώσει ἐκ Σιὼν τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ;
7 τίς δώσει ἐκ Σιὼν τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ;
7 Who will give the deliverance of Israēl out of Siōn? When the Lord returns the captivity of his people, let Jakōb rejoice, and Israēl be glad. 7 Who will give the deliverance of Israēl out of Siōn? When the Lord returns the captivity of his people, let Jakōb rejoice, and Israēl be glad.
