To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
| For the end, a Psalm attributed to David. | For the end, a Psalm attributed to David. |
1 Blessed is he who considers the poor; Yahweh will deliver him in time of trouble.
| 1 Blessed is the one who considers the poor and needy; in an evil day, the Lord will rescue him. | 1 Blessed is the one who considers the poor and needy; in an evil day, the Lord will rescue him. |
2 Yahweh will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed on the earth; and you will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.
| 2 May the Lord carefully guard him and enliven him and make him blessed in the land, and may he not give him up into his enemy’s hands. | 2 May the Lord carefully guard him and enliven him and make him blessed in the land, and may he not give him up into his enemy’s hands. |
3 Yahweh will strengthen him on the bed of languishing; you will make all his bed in his sickness.
| 3 May the Lord help him on his bed of pain; in his illness, you changed his whole bed. | 3 May the Lord help him on his bed of pain; in his illness, you changed his whole bed. |
4 I said, Yahweh, be merciful to me; heal my soul; for I have sinned against you.
| 4
ἐγὼ
| 4
As for me, I said, Oh Lord, have mercy on me; heal my soul, because I sinned against you. |
4
As for me, I said, Oh Lord, have mercy on me; heal my soul, because I sinned against you. |
5 My enemies speak evil of me, When he shall die, and his name perish?
| 5
My enemies spoke evil against me.
When will he die and his name perish? |
5
My enemies spoke evil against me.
When will he die and his name perish? |
6 And if he comes to see me, he speaks vanity; his heart gathers iniquity to itself; when he goes abroad, he tells it.

| 6 And if he came in to see, his heart was speaking vainly; he gathered lawlessness to himself; he was going outside and was talking at the same time. | 6 And if he came in to see, his heart was speaking vainly; he gathered lawlessness to himself; he was going outside and was talking at the same time. |
7 All who hate me whisper together against me; against me do they devise my hurt.
| 7 All my enemies were whispering against me; against me, they were devising evil for me. | 7 All my enemies were whispering against me; against me, they were devising evil for me. |
8 An evil disease, say they, clings firmly to him; and now that he lies down he shall rise up no more.

They asserted a lawless word against me, Indeed, will he who lies down not rise up again? |

They asserted a lawless word against me, Indeed, will he who lies down not rise up again? |
9 Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
| 9 Indeed, the man at peace with me, in whom I had confidence, he who would eat of my bread, enlarged a heel against me. | 9 Indeed, the man at peace with me, in whom I had confidence, he who would eat of my bread, enlarged a heel against me. |
10 But you, Oh Yahweh, be merciful to me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
| 10 But as for you, Oh Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up, and I will repay them. | 10 But as for you, Oh Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up, and I will repay them. |
11 By this I know that you favour me, because my enemy doesn’t triumph over me.
| 11 By this I knew that you wanted me because my enemy shall not be happy over me. | 11 By this I knew that you wanted me because my enemy shall not be happy over me. |
12 And as for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me before your face for ever.
| 12 But you supported me because of my innocence and established me before you forever. | 12 But you supported me because of my innocence and established me before you forever. |
13 Blessed be Yahweh Elohim of Israēl from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
