Lamentations of Jeremiah

1 Remember, Oh Yahweh, what is come on us: consider, and behold our reproach.

זְכֹר יְהוָה מֶה ־ הָיָה לָנוּ הַבֵּיט וּרְאֵה אֶת ־ חֶרְפָּתֵנוּ׃

2 Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.

נַחֲלָתֵנוּ נֶהֶפְכָה לְזָרִים בָּתֵּינוּ לְנָכְרִים׃

יְתֹומִים הָיִינוּ אֵין אָב אִמֹּתֵינוּ כְּאַלְמָנֹות׃

מֵימֵינוּ בְּכֶסֶף שָׁתִינוּ עֵצֵינוּ בִּמְחִיר יָבֹאוּ׃

עַל צַוָּארֵנוּ נִרְדָּפְנוּ יָגַעְנוּ לֹא הוּנַח ־ לָנוּ׃

9 We got our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

בְּנַפְשֵׁנוּ נָבִיא לַחְמֵנוּ מִפְּנֵי חֶרֶב הַמִּדְבָּר׃

10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.

עֹורֵנוּ כְּתַנּוּר נִכְמָרוּ מִפְּנֵי זַלְעֲפֹות רָעָב׃

11 They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.

נָשִׁים בְּצִיֹּון עִנּוּ בְּתֻלֹת בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה׃

12 Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.

שָׂרִים בְּיָדָם נִתְלוּ פְּנֵי זְקֵנִים לֹא נֶהְדָּרוּ׃

13 They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.

בַּחוּרִים טְחֹון נָשָׂאוּ וּנְעָרִים בָּעֵץ כָּשָׁלוּ׃

שָׁבַת מְשֹׂושׂ לִבֵּנוּ נֶהְפַּךְ לְאֵבֶל מְחֹלֵנוּ׃

נָפְלָה עֲטֶרֶת רֹאשֵׁנוּ אֹוי ־ נָא לָנוּ כִּי חָטָאנוּ׃

עַל ־ זֶה הָיָה דָוֶה לִבֵּנוּ עַל ־ אֵלֶּה חָשְׁכוּ עֵינֵינוּ׃

עַל הַר ־ צִיֹּון שֶׁשָּׁמֵם שׁוּעָלִים הִלְּכוּ ־ בֹו׃ פ

אַתָּה יְהוָה לְעֹולָם תֵּשֵׁב כִּסְאֲךָ לְדֹר וָדֹור׃

20 Why do you forget us forever, and forsake us so long time?

לָמָּה לָנֶצַח תִּשְׁכָּחֵנוּ תַּעַזְבֵנוּ לְאֹרֶךְ יָמִים׃

21 Turn you us to you, Oh Yahweh, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

כִּי אִם ־ מָאֹס מְאַסְתָּנוּ קָצַפְתָּ עָלֵינוּ עַד ־ מְאֹד׃
