(LXX 16)

A Prayer of David.

A prayer of David. A prayer of David.

1 Hear the right, Oh Yahweh, attend to my cry, give ear to my prayer, that doesn’t go out of feigned lips.

1 Listen, Oh Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer on lips with no deceit. 1 Listen, Oh Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer on lips with no deceit.

2 Let my sentence come forth from your presence; let your eyes behold the things that are equal.

2 From your presence may my judgment come out; let my eyes see uprightness. 2 From your presence may my judgment come out; let my eyes see uprightness.

3 You have proved my heart; you have visited me in the night; you have tried me, and shall find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

3 You examined my heart; you visited by night; you tested me, and you didn’t find injustice in me. 3 You examined my heart; you visited by night; you tested me, and you didn’t find injustice in me.

4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the paths of the destroyer.

4 That my mouth shouldn’t speak of the works of men because I guard the words of your lips from hard ways. 4 That my mouth shouldn’t speak of the works of men because I guard the words of your lips from hard ways.

5 Hold up my goings in your paths, that my footsteps slip not.

5 Restore my steps in your paths, in order that my steps shouldn’t slip. 5 Restore my steps in your paths, in order that my steps shouldn’t slip.

6 I have called on you, for you will hear me, Oh God; incline your ear to me, and hear my speech.

6 I cried out because you heard me, Oh God; incline your ear to me, and listen to my words. 6 I cried out because you heard me, Oh God; incline your ear to me, and listen to my words.

7 Show your marvellous lovingkindness, Oh you who saves by your right hand them who put their trust in you from those who rise up against them.

7 Make your mercies marvelous, you are saving those who are confident in you from those who have opposed your right hand. 7 Make your mercies marvelous, you are saving those who are confident in you from those who have opposed your right hand.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of your wings,

8 Guard me like the pupil of the eye; with the shelter of your wings, you shelter me, 8 Guard me like the pupil of the eye; with the shelter of your wings, you shelter me,

9 From the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who surround me about.

9 from the face of the impious who afflicted me; my enemies surrounded my soul. 9 from the face of the impious who afflicted me; my enemies surrounded my soul.

10 They are enclosed in their own fat; with their mouth they speak proudly.

10 They closed up their fat; their mouth spoke arrogance. 10 They closed up their fat; their mouth spoke arrogance.

11 They have now surrounded us in our steps; they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;

11 While they throw me out, they surround me; their eyes were set to be inclined to the ground. 11 While they throw me out, they surround me; their eyes were set to be inclined to the ground.

12 Like a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

12 Like a lion prepared for prey, they were ready to pounce; and like a cub dwelling in secret. 12 Like a lion prepared for prey, they were ready to pounce; and like a cub dwelling in secret.

13 Arise, Oh Yahweh, disappoint him, cast him down; deliver my soul from the wicked, which is your sword;

13 Arise, Oh Lord, go before them, and upset them; rescue my soul from the impious; your sword from the enemies of your hand, 13 Arise, Oh Lord, go before them, and upset them; rescue my soul from the impious; your sword from the enemies of your hand,

14 From men who are your hand, Oh Yahweh, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life, and whose belly you fill with your hid treasure; they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

14 Oh Lord, from few things of the land, separate them from their life; and their belly was filled of your hidden things; they were filled with sons; and they left the remnants to their babies. 14 Oh Lord, from few things of the land, separate them from their life; and their belly was filled of your hidden things; they were filled with sons; and they left the remnants to their babies.

15 As for me, I will behold your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with your likeness.

15 But I, in righteousness, will appear before you; I shall be satisfied when your glory appears. 15 But I, in righteousness, will appear before you; I shall be satisfied when your glory appears.
