Haggai

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of Yahweh by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

1 Ἐν τῷ δευτέρῳ ἔτει ἐπὶ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Ἁγγαίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγων Εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς Ζοροβάβελ τὸν τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ἰούδα καὶ πρὸς Ἰησοῦν τὸν τοῦ Ἰωσεδὲκ τὸν ἱερέα τὸν μέγαν λέγων	1 ἐν τῷ δευτέρῳ ἔτει ἐπὶ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως, ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ, μιᾷ τοῦ μηνός, ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Ἀγγαίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγων· εἰπὸν πρὸς Ζοροβάβελ τὸν τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ἰούδα καὶ πρὸς Ἰησοῦν τὸν τοῦ Ἰωσεδὲκ τὸν ἱερέα τὸν μέγαν λέγων·

2 Thus speaks Yahweh of armies, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Yahweh’s house should be built.

3 Then came the word of Yahweh by Haggai the prophet, saying,

4 Is it time for you, Oh you, to dwell in your ceiled houses, and this house lie waste?

5 Now therefore thus says Yahweh of armies; Consider your ways.

6 You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but you haven’t enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe you, but there is none warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put it into a bag with holes.

8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, says Yahweh.

9 You looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew on it. Why? Says Yahweh of armies. Because of my house that is waste, and you run every man to his own house.

9 ἐπεβλέψατε εἰς πολλά, καὶ ἐγένετο ὀλίγα· καὶ εἰσηνέχθη εἰς τὸν οἶκον, καὶ ἐξεφύσησα αὐτά. διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ Ἀνθ’ ὧν ὁ οἶκός μού ἐστιν ἔρημος, ὑμεῖς δὲ διώκετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ,	9 ἐπεβλέψατε εἰς πολλά, καὶ ἐγένετο ὀλίγα· καὶ εἰσηνέχθη εἰς τὸν οἶκον, καὶ ἐξεφύσησα αὐτά. διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ· ἀνθ’ ὧν ὁ οἶκός μού ἐστιν ἔρημος, ὑμεῖς δὲ διώκετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ,

10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

11 And I called for a drought on the land, and on the mountains, and on the grain, and on the new wine, and on the oil, and on what the ground brings forth, and on men, and on cattle, and on all the labour of the hands.

11 καὶ ἐπάξω ῥομφαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σῖτον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶνον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἔλαιον καὶ ὅσα ἐκφέρει ἡ γῆ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ κτήνη καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς πόνους τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν.	11 καὶ ἐπάξω ῥομφαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σῖτον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶνον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἔλαιον καὶ ὅσα ἐκφέρει ἡ γῆ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ κτήνη καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς πόνους τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν.

12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yahweh their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him, and the people did fear before Yahweh.

13 Then spoke Haggai Yahweh’s messenger in Yahweh’s message to the people, saying, I am with you, says Yahweh.

14 And Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of Yahweh of armies, their God,

14 καὶ ἐξήγειρεν κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα Ζοροβάβελ τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ἰούδα καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ἰωσεδὲκ τοῦ ἱερέως τοῦ μεγάλου καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῶν καταλοίπων παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ εἰσῆλθον καὶ ἐποίουν ἔργα ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ κυρίου παντοκράτορος θεοῦ αὐτῶν	14 καὶ ἐξήγειρε Κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα Ζοροβάβελ τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ἰούδα καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ἰωσεδὲκ τοῦ ἱερέως τοῦ μεγάλου καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῶν καταλοίπων παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ εἰσῆλθον καὶ ἐποίουν ἔργα ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Κυρίου παντοκράτορος Θεοῦ αὐτῶν
