To the chief Musician on Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath.
For the end, concerning the people who were removed from the sanctuary, by David for a memorial, when the Philistines caught him in Geth. | For the end, concerning the people who were removed from the sanctuary, by David for a memorial, when the Philistines caught him in Geth. |
1 Be merciful to me, Oh God; for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresses me.
1 Have mercy on me, Oh God; for man has trodden me down; all the day long he warring has afflicted me. | 1 Have mercy on me, Oh God; for man has trodden me down; all the day long he warring has afflicted me. |
2 My enemies would daily swallow me up; for they be many that fight against me, Oh you most High.
2 My enemies have trodden me down all the day from the dawning of the day; for there are many warring against me. | 2 My enemies have trodden me down all the day from the dawning of the day; for there are many warring against me. |
3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in you.
3 They shall be afraid, but I will trust in you. | 3 They shall be afraid, but I will trust in you. |
4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me.

4 In God I will praise my words; all the day have I hoped in God; I will not fear what flesh shall do to me. | 4 In God I will praise my words; all the day have I hoped in God; I will not fear what flesh shall do to me. |
5 Every day they wrest my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
5 All the day long they have abominated my words; all their devices are against me for evil. | 5 All the day long they have abominated my words; all their devices are against me for evil. |
6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
6 They will dwell as a resident alien near and hide themselves; they will watch my steps, accordingly as I have waited patiently in my soul. | 6 They will dwell near and hide themselves; they will watch my steps, accordingly as I have waited patiently in my soul. |
7 Shall they escape by iniquity? In your anger cast down the people, Oh God.

7 You will on no account save them; you will bring down the people in wrath. | 7 You will on no account save them; you will bring down the people in wrath. |
8 You tell my wanderings; put you my tears into your bottle; are they not in your book?
8 Oh God, I have declared my life to you; you have set my tears before you, even according to your promise. | 8 Oh God, I have declared my life to you; you have set my tears before you, even according to your promise. |
9 When I cry to you, then shall my enemies turn back; this I know; for God is for me.
9 My enemies shall be turned back, in the day in which I shall call on you; behold, I know that you are my God. | 9 My enemies shall be turned back, in the day in which I shall call on you; behold, I know that you are my God. |
10 In God will I praise his word; in Yahweh will I praise his word.
10 In God, will I praise his word; in the Lord will I praise his saying. | 10 In God, will I praise his word; in the Lord will I praise his saying. |
11 In God have I put my trust; I will not be afraid what man can do to me.
11 I have hoped in God; I will not be afraid of what man shall do to me. | 11 I have hoped in God; I will not be afraid of what man shall do to me. |
12 Your vows are on me, Oh God; I will render praises to you.
12 The vows of your praise, Oh God, which I will pay, are on me. | 12 The vows of your praise, Oh God, which I will pay, are on me. |
13 For you have delivered my soul from death; won’t you deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
13 For you have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from sliding, that I should be well-pleasing before God in the land of the living. | 13 For you have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from sliding, that I should be well-pleasing before God in the land of the living. |
