Genesis

1 And when Abram was 99, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be perfect.

1 ἐγένετο δὲ Ἅβραμ ἐτῶν ἐνενήκοντα ἐννέα, καὶ ὤφθη κύριος τῷ Ἅβραμ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεός σου· εὐαρέστει ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ καὶ γίνου ἄμεμπτος,	1 Ἐγένετο δὲ Ἅβραμ ἐτῶν ἐνενηκονταεννέα, καὶ ὤφθη Κύριος τῷ Ἅβραμ καὶ εἶπε αὐτῷ· ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ Θεός σου· εὐαρέστει ἐνώπιον ἐμοῦ καὶ γίνου ἄμεμπτος,

3 And Abram fell on his face; and God talked with him, saying,

4 “As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made you.

6 And I will make you exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you.

6 καὶ αὐξανῶ σὲ σφόδρα σφόδρα καὶ θήσω σὲ εἰς ἔθνη, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐκ σου ἐξελεύσονται.	6 καὶ αὐξανῶ σε σφόδρα σφόδρα καὶ θήσω σε εἰς ἔθνη, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐκ σοῦ ἐξελεύσονται.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you, and to your seed after you.

8 καὶ δώσω σοί καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου μετὰ σὲ τὴν γῆν, ἣν παροικεῖς, πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Χαναάν, εἰς κατάσχεσιν αἰώνιον καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς θεός.	8 καὶ δώσω σοι καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου μετὰ σὲ τὴν γῆν, ἣν παροικεῖς, πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Χαναάν, εἰς κατάσχεσιν αἰώνιον καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς εἰς Θεόν.

9 And God said to Abraham, “You shall keep my covenant therefore, you, and your seed after you in their generations.

10 This is my covenant, which you^p shall keep, between me and you^p and your seed after you. Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

10 καὶ αὕτη ἡ διαθήκη, ἣν διατηρήσεις, ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ σπέρματός σου μετὰ σὲ εἰς τὰς γενεὰς αὐτῶν· περιτμηθήσεται ὑμῶν πᾶν ἀρσενικόν.	10 καὶ αὕτη ἡ διαθήκη, ἣν διατηρήσεις, ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ σπέρματός σου μετὰ σὲ εἰς τὰς γενεὰς αὐτῶν· περιτμηθήσεται ὑμῶν πᾶν ἀρσενικόν,

11 And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant between me and you.

11 καὶ περιτμηθήσεσθε τὴν σάρκα τῆς ἀκροβυστίας ὑμῶν, καὶ ἔσται ἐν σημείῳ διαθήκης ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν.	11 καὶ περιτμηθήσεσθε τὴν σάρκα τῆς ἀκροβυστίας ὑμῶν, καὶ ἔσται εἰς σημεῖον διαθήκης ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν.

12 And he who is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, who isn’t of your seed.

12 καὶ παιδίον ὀκτὼ ἡμερῶν περιτμηθήσεται ὑμῖν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν εἰς τὰς γενεὰς ὑμῶν, ὁ οἰκογενὴς τῆς οἰκίας σου καὶ ὁ ἀργυρώνητος ἀπὸ παντὸς υἱοῦ ἀλλοτρίου, ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματός σου.	12 καὶ παιδίον ὀκτὼ ἡμερῶν περιτμηθήσεται ὑμῖν, πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν εἰς τὰς γενεὰς ὑμῶν, ὁ οἰκογενὴς καὶ ὁ ἀργυρώνητος, ἀπὸ παντὸς υἱοῦ ἀλλοτρίου, ὃς οὐκ ἐστιν ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματός σου.

13 περιτομῇ περιτμηθήσεται ὁ οἰκογενὴς τῆς οἰκίας σου καὶ ὁ ἀργυρώνητος, καὶ ἔσται ἡ διαθήκη μου ἐπὶ τῆς σαρκὸς ὑμῶν εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον.	13 περιτομῇ περιτμηθήσεται ὁ οἰκογενὴς τῆς οἰκίας σου καὶ ὁ ἀργυρώνητος, καὶ ἔσται ἡ διαθήκη μου ἐπὶ τῆς σαρκὸς ὑμῶν εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον.

14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin isn’t circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

14 καὶ ἀπερίτμητος ἄρσην, ὃς οὐ περιτμηθήσεται τὴν σάρκα τῆς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτοῦ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ, ἐξολεθρευθήσεται ἡ ψυχὴ ἐκείνη ἐκ τοῦ γένους αὐτῆς, ὅτι τὴν διαθήκην μου διεσκέδασεν.	14 καὶ ἀπερίτμητος ἄρσην, ὃς οὐ περιτμηθήσεται τὴν σάρκα τῆς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτοῦ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ, ἐξολοθρευθήσεται ἡ ψυχὴ ἐκείνη ἐκ τοῦ γένους αὐτῆς, ὅτι τὴν διαθήκην μου διεσκέδασε.

15 And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.

15 And God said to Abraham, “Sara your wife – her name won’t be called Sara, but her name shall be Sarra.	15 And God said to Abraham, “Sara your wife – her name won’t be called Sara, but her name shall be Sarra.

16 And I will bless her, and give you a son also of her: yes, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.”

16 εὐλογήσω δὲ αὐτὴν καὶ δώσω σοί ἐξ αὐτῆς τέκνον· καὶ εὐλογήσω αὐτόν, καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἔθνη, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν ἐξ αὐτοῦ ἔσονται.	16 εὐλογήσω δὲ αὐτήν, καὶ δώσω σοι ἐξ αὐτῆς τέκνον· καὶ εὐλογήσω αὐτό, καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἔθνη, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν ἐξ αὐτοῦ ἔσονται.

17 Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to him who is 100 years old? And shall Sarah, who is 90 years old, give birth?”

17 καὶ ἔπεσεν Ἁβραὰμ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον καὶ ἐγέλασεν καὶ εἶπεν ἐν τῇ διανοίᾳ αὐτοῦ λέγων, εἰ τῷ ἑκατονταετεῖ γενήσεται, καὶ εἰ Σάρρα ἐνενήκοντα ἐτῶν οὖσα τέξεται;	17 καὶ ἔπεσεν Ἁβραὰμ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐγέλασε καὶ εἶπε ἐν τῇ διανοίᾳ αὐτοῦ λέγων· εἰ τῷ ἑκατονταετεῖ γενήσεται υἱός; καὶ εἰ ἡ Σάρρα ἐνενήκοντα ἐτῶν τέξεται;
17 And Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his mind, saying, “To one who is 100 years old, and Sarra who is 90 years old be able to give birth?”	17 And Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his mind, saying, “To one who is 100 years old, and Sarra who is 90 years old be able to give birth?”

18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

18 εἶπεν δὲ Ἁβραὰμ πρὸς τὸν θεόν Ἰσμαὴλ οὗτος ζήτω ἐναντίον σου.	18 εἶπε δὲ Ἁβραὰμ πρὸς τὸν Θεόν· Ἰσμαὴλ οὗτος ζήτω ἐναντίον σου.
18 And Abraham said to God, “Let this Ismaēl live before you.”	18 And Abraham said to God, “Let this Ismaēl live before you.”

19 And God said, “Sarah your wife shall give birth to you a son indeed; and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

19 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῷ Ἁβραάμ, ναί· ἰδοὺ Σάρρα ἡ γυνή σου τέξεταί σοί υἱόν, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰσαάκ, καὶ στήσω τὴν διαθήκην μου πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτόν.	19 εἶπε δὲ ὁ Θεὸς πρὸς Ἁβραὰμ· ναί· ἰδοὺ Σάρρα ἡ γυνή σου τέξεταί σοι υἱόν, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰσαάκ, καὶ στήσω τὴν διαθήκην μου πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον, εἶναι αὐτῷ Θεὸς καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτόν.
19 And God said to Abraham, “Yes, look! Sarra your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him, for an everlasting covenant, and to his offspring after him.	19 And God said to Abraham, “Yes, look! 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes he shall father, and I will make him a great nation.

20 περὶ δὲ Ἰσμαὴλ ἰδοὺ ἐπήκουσά σου· ἰδοὺ εὐλόγησα αὐτὸν καὶ αὐξανῶ αὐτὸν καὶ πληθυνῶ αὐτὸν σφόδρα· δώδεκα ἔθνη γεννήσει καὶ δώσω αὐτὸν εἰς ἔθνος μέγα.	20 περὶ δὲ Ἰσμαὴλ ἰδοὺ ἐπήκουσά σου· καὶ ἰδοὺ εὐλόγηκα αὐτὸν καὶ αὐξανῶ αὐτὸν καὶ πληθυνῶ αὐτὸν σφόδρα· δώδεκα ἔθνη γεννήσει καὶ δώσω αὐτὸν εἰς ἔθνος μέγα.
20 And concerning Ismaēl, look! I have heard you, look! I have blessed him, and will increase him and multiply him exceedingly; he will father twelve nations, and I will make him into a great nation.	20 And concerning Ismaēl, look! I have heard you, look! I have blessed him, and will increase him and multiply him exceedingly; he will father twelve nations, and I will make him into a great nation.

21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall give birth to you at this set time in the next year.”

22 And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

22 συνετέλεσεν δὲ λαλῶν πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἀνέβη ὁ θεὸς ἀπὸ Ἁβραάμ.	22 συνετέλεσε δὲ λαλῶν πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἀνέβη ὁ Θεὸς ἀπὸ Ἁβραάμ.

23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, as God had said to him.

23 καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἁβραὰμ Ἰσμαὴλ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς οἰκογενεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀργυρωνήτους καὶ πᾶν ἄρσεν τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Ἁβραὰμ καὶ περιέτεμεν τὰς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης, καθὰ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ ὁ θεός.	23 Καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἁβραὰμ Ἰσμαὴλ τὸν υἱὸν ἑαυτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς οἰκογενεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀργυρωνήτους καὶ πᾶν ἄρσεν τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Ἁβραὰμ καὶ περιέτεμε τὰς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης, καθὰ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Θεός.

24 And Abraham was 99, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

26 In the very same day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.
