1 [M 13:23] So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

2 [M 14:1] And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of Yahweh his God.

3 [M 14:2] For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and broke down the images, and cut down the groves.

4 [M 14:3] And commanded Judah to seek Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

5 [M 14:4] Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

6 [M 14:5] And he built fenced cities in Judah; for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because Yahweh had given him rest.

7 [M 14:6] Therefore he said to Judah, Let’s build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought Yahweh our Elohim, we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

7 καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Ἰούδα οἰκοδομήσωμεν τὰς πόλεις ταύτας καὶ ποιήσωμεν τείχη καὶ πύργους καὶ πύλας καὶ μοχλοὺς ἐν ᾧ τῆς γῆς κυριεύσομεν, ὅτι καθὼς ἐξεζητήσαμεν κύριον θεὸν ἡμῶν, ἐξεζήτησεν ἡμᾶς καὶ κατέπαυσεν ἡμᾶς κυκλόθεν καὶ εὐόδωσεν ἡμῖν.	7 καὶ εἶπε τῷ Ἰούδᾳ· οἰκοδομήσωμεν τὰς πόλεις ταύτας καὶ ποιήσωμεν τείχη καὶ πύργους καὶ πύλας καὶ μοχλούς, ἐν ᾧ τῆς γῆς κυριεύσομεν, ὅτι καθὼς ἐξεζητήσαμεν Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν ἡμῶν, ἐξεζήτησεν ἡμᾶς καὶ κατέπαυσεν ἡμᾶς κυκλόθεν καὶ εὐώδωσεν ἡμῖν.

8 [M 14:7] And Asa had an army of men who carried targets and spears, out of Judah 300,000; and out of Benjamin, who carried shields and drew bows, 280,000: all these were mighty men of valour.

8 καὶ ἐγένετο τῷ Ἀσὰ δύναμις ὁπλοφόρων αἰρόντων θυρεοὺς καὶ δόρατα ἐν γῇ Ἰούδα τριακόσιαι χιλιάδες καὶ ἐν γῇ Βενιαμὶν πελτασταὶ καὶ τοξόται διακόσιαι καὶ πεντήκοντα χιλιάδες, πάντες οὗτοι πολεμισταὶ δυνάμεως.	8 καὶ ἐγένετο δύναμις τῷ Ἀσὰ ὁπλοφόρων αἰρόντων θυρεοὺς καὶ δόρατα ἐν γῇ Ἰούδα τριακόσιαι χιλιάδες καὶ ἐν γῇ Βενιαμὶν πελτασταὶ καὶ τοξόται διακόσιαι καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες, πάντες οὗτοι πολεμισταὶ δυνάμεως.

9 [M 14:8] And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of 1,000,000, and 300 chariots; and came to Mareshah.

9 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς Ζαρὲ ὁ Αἰθίοψ ἐν δυνάμει, ἐν χιλίαις χιλιάσιν καὶ ἅρμασιν τριακοσίοις, καὶ ἦλθεν ἕως Μαρισά.	9 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς Ζαρὲ ὁ Αἰθίοψ ἐν δυνάμει ἐν χιλίαις χιλιάσι καὶ ἅρμασι τριακοσίοις, καὶ ἦλθεν ἕως Μαρισά.

10 [M 14:9] Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 [M 14:10] And Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, Yahweh, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with those who have no power: help us, Oh Yahweh our Elohim; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. Oh Yahweh, you are our God; don’t let man prevail against you.

11 καὶ ἐβόησεν Ἀσὰ πρὸς κύριον θεὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν κύριε, οὐκ ἀδυνατεῖ παρὰ σοί σῴζειν ἐν πολλοῖς καὶ ἐν ὀλίγοις· κατίσχυσον ἡμᾶς, κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἐπὶ σοί πεποίθαμεν καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἤλθαμεν ἐπὶ τὸ πλῆθος τὸ πολὺ τοῦτο· κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν, μὴ κατισχυσάτω πρὸς σὲ ἄνθρωπος.	11 καὶ ἐβόησεν Ἀσὰ πρὸς Κύριον Θεὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπε· Κύριε, οὐκ ἀδυνατεῖ παρὰ σοί σώζειν ἐν πολλοῖς καὶ ἐν ὀλίγοις· κατίσχυσον ἡμᾶς, Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἐπὶ σοί πεποίθαμεν καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἤλθομεν ἐπὶ τὸ πλῆθος τὸ πολὺ τοῦτο· Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, μὴ κατισχυσάτω πρός σε ἄνθρωπος.
11 And Asa cried to the Lord his God, and said, Oh Lord, it is not impossible with you to save by many or by few: strengthen us, Oh Lord our God; for we trust in you, and in your name have we come against this great multitude. 12 [M 14:11] So Yahweh smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

12 καὶ ἐπάταξεν κύριος τοὺς Αἰθίοπας ἐναντίον Ἰούδα, καὶ ἔφυγον οἱ Αἰθίοπες·	12 καὶ ἐπάταξε Κύριος τοὺς Αἰθίοπας ἐναντίον Ἰούδα, καὶ ἔφυγον Αἰθίοπες·

13 [M 14:12] And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they couldn’t recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Yahweh, and before his army; and they carried away very much spoil.

13 καὶ κατεδίωξεν Ἀσὰ καὶ ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ ἕως Γεδώρ, καὶ ἔπεσον Αἰθίοπες ὥστε μὴ εἶναι ἐν αὐτοῖς περιποίησιν, ὅτι συνετρίβησαν ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ ἐναντίον τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐσκύλευσαν σκῦλα πολλά.	13 καὶ κατεδίωξεν αὐτοὺς Ἀσὰ καὶ ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ ἕως Γεδώρ, καὶ ἔπεσον Αἰθίοπες ὥστε μὴ εἶναι ἐν αὐτοῖς περιποίησιν, ὅτι συνετρίβησαν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ ἐναντίον τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐσκύλευσαν σκῦλα πολλά.

14 [M 14:13] And they smote all the cities all around Gerar; for the fear of Yahweh came on them; and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

14 καὶ ἐξέκοψαν τὰς κώμας αὐτῶν κύκλῳ Γεδώρ, ὅτι ἐγενήθη ἔκστασις κυρίου ἐπ’ αὐτούς, καὶ ἐσκύλευσαν πάσας τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν, ὅτι πολλὰ σκῦλα ἐγενήθη αὐτοῖς·	14 καὶ ἐξέκοψαν τὰς κώμας αὐτῶν κύκλῳ Γεδώρ, ὅτι ἐγενήθη ἔκστασις Κυρίου ἐπ’ αὐτούς, καὶ ἐσκύλευσαν πάσας τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν, ὅτι πολλὰ σκῦλα ἐγενήθη αὐτοῖς·

15 [M 14:14] They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
