Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah in Judah

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 55 years in Jerusalem.

1 Manasses was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 55 years in Jerusalem. 1 Manasses was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 55 years in Jerusalem.

2 But did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, like to the abominations of the heathen, whom Yahweh had cast out before the sons of Israēl.

2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord destroyed from before the face of the sons of Israēl. 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord destroyed from before the face of the sons of Israēl.

3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baals, and made groves, and worshipped all the objects of the sky, and served them.

3 And he returned and built the high places, which his father Ezekias had pulled down, and set up images to Baals, and made groves, and worshipped all the objects of the sky, and served them. 3 And he returned and built the high places, which his father Ezekias had pulled down, and set up images to Baals, and made groves, and worshipped all the objects of the sky, and served them.

4 Also he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.

4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, concerning which the Lord said, In Jerusalem shall be my name forever. 4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, concerning which the Lord said, In Jerusalem shall be my name forever.

5 And he built altars for all the objects of the sky in the two courts of the house of Yahweh.

5 And he built altars to all the objects of the sky in the two courts of the house of the Lord. 5 And he built altars to all the objects of the sky in the two courts of the house of the Lord.

6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.

6 He also passed his children through the fire in the valley of Benennom; and he divined, and used auspices, and sorceries, and appointed those who had divining spirits, and enchanters, and wrought abundant wickedness before the Lord, to provoke him. 6 He also passed his children through the fire in the valley of Benennom; and he divined, and used auspices, and sorceries, and appointed those who had divining spirits, and enchanters, and wrought abundant wickedness before the Lord, to provoke him.

7 And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israēl, will I put my name forever.

7 And he set the carved image, the molten statue, the idol which he made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Salōmōn his son, In this house, and Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israēl, I will put my name forever; 7 And he set the carved image, the molten statue, the idol which he made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Salōmōn his son, In this house, and Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israēl, I will put my name forever;

8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israēl from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.

8 and I won’t again remove the foot of Israēl from the land which I gave to their fathers, if only they will take heed to do all things which I have commanded them, according to all the law and the ordinances and the judgments given by the hand of Moses. 8 and I won’t again remove the foot of Israēl from the land which I gave to their fathers, if only they will take heed to do all things which I have commanded them, according to all the law and the ordinances and the judgments given by the hand of Moses.

9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom Yahweh had destroyed before the sons of Israēl.

9 So Manasses led astray Jouda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to do evil beyond all the nations which the Lord cast out from before the sons of Israēl. 9 So Manasses led astray Jouda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to do evil beyond all the nations which the Lord cast out from before the sons of Israēl.

Manasseh’s Idolatry Rebuked

10 And Yahweh spoke to Manasseh, and to his people; but they would not listen.

10 And the Lord spoke to Manasses, and to his people; but they didn’t listen. 10 And the Lord spoke to Manasses, and to his people; but they didn’t listen.

11 Therefore Yahweh brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

11 And the Lord brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, and they took Manasses in bonds, and bound him in fetters, and brought him to Babylon. 11 And the Lord brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, and they took Manasses in bonds, and bound him in fetters, and brought him to Babylon.

12 And when he was in affliction, he besought Yahweh his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

12 And when he was afflicted, he sought the face of the Lord his God, and was greatly humbled before the face of the God of his fathers; 12 And when he was afflicted, he sought the face of the Lord his God, and was greatly humbled before the face of the God of his fathers;

13 And prayed to him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Yahweh he was God.

13 and he prayed to him; and he listened to him, and listened to his cry, and brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom; and Manasses knew that the Lord he is God. 13 and he prayed to him; and he listened to him, and listened to his cry, and brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom; and Manasses knew that the Lord he is God.

14 Now after this he built a wall outside the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and surrounded about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.

14 And afterward he built a wall outside the city of David, from the southwest southward in the valleys and at the entrance through the fish-gate, as men go out by the gate all around, even as far as Ophla; and he raised it much, and set captains of the army in all the fortified cities in Jouda. 14 And afterward he built a wall outside the city of David, from the southwest southward in the valleys and at the entrance through the fish-gate, as men go out by the gate all around, even as far as Ophla; and he raised it much, and set captains of the army in all the fortified cities in Jouda.

15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of Yahweh, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of Yahweh, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.

15 And he removed the strange gods, and the carved image out of the house of the Lord, and all the altars which he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and outside the city. 15 And he removed the strange gods, and the carved image out of the house of the Lord, and all the altars which he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and outside the city.

16 And he repaired the altar of Yahweh, and sacrificed on it peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh Elohim of Israēl.

16 And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and offered on it a sacrifice of peace-offering and thank-offering, and he told Jouda to serve the Lord God of Israēl. 16 And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and offered on it a sacrifice of peace-offering and thank-offering, and he told Jouda to serve the Lord God of Israēl.

17 Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet to Yahweh their God only.

17 Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, only to the Lord their God. 17 Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, only to the Lord their God.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israēl.

18 And the rest of the acts of Manasses, and his prayer to God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the God of Israēl, 18 And the rest of the acts of Manasses, and his prayer to God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the God of Israēl,

19 His prayer also, and how God was entreated of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places, and set up groves and carved images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.

19 behold, they are in the account of his prayer; and God listened to him. And all his sins, and his backslidings, and the spots on which he built the high places, and set there groves and carved images, before he repented, behold, they are written in the books of the seers. 19 behold, they are in the account of his prayer; and God listened to him. And all his sins, and his backslidings, and the spots on which he built the high places, and set there groves and carved images, before he repented, behold, they are written in the books of the seers.

20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

20 And Manasses slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the garden of his house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead. 20 And Manasses slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the garden of his house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

Amon Becomes King in Judah

21 Amon was 22 years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem.

21 Amon was 22 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. 21 Amon was 22 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.

22 But he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as did Manasseh his father; for Amon sacrificed to all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them;

22 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasses did; and Amon sacrificed to all the idols which his father Manasses had made, and served them. 22 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasses did; and Amon sacrificed to all the idols which his father Manasses had made, and served them.

23 And didn’t humble himself before Yahweh, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.

23 And he wasn’t humbled before the Lord as his father Manasses was humbled; for his son Amon abounded in transgression. 23 And he wasn’t humbled before the Lord as his father Manasses was humbled; for his son Amon abounded in transgression.

24 And his servants conspired against him, and killed him in his own house.

24 And his servants conspired against him, and killed him in his house. 24 And his servants conspired against him, and killed him in his house.

25 But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.

25 And the people of the land killed the men who had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josias his son king in his stead. 25 And the people of the land killed the men who had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josias his son king in his stead.
