Isaiah’s Vision

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

1 And it happened in the year that King Ozias died that I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and raised up, and the house was full of his glory. 1 And it happened in the year that King Ozias died that I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and raised up, and the house was full of his glory.

2 Above it stood the seraphs: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he flew.

2 And seraphs stood around him; six wings for one and six wings for one, and with two they covered their face, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 2 And seraphs stood around him; six wings for one and six wings for one, and with two they covered their face, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew.

3 And one cried to another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is Yahweh of armies: the whole earth is full of his glory.

3 And they cried out one to another and kept saying. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Sabaōth; the whole earth is full of his glory.” 3 And they cried out one to another and kept saying. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Sabaōth; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him who cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

4

4 And the lintel was raised at the voice by which they cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 4 And the lintel was raised at the voice by which they cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, Yahweh of armies.

5 And I said. “Oh I am wretched! Because I have been stunned; because being a man and having unclean lips, I live among a people having unclean lips, and I have seen the King, the Lord Sabaōth, with my eyes!” 5 And I said. “Oh I am wretched! Because I have been stunned; because being a man and having unclean lips, I live among a people having unclean lips, and I have seen the King, the Lord Sabaōth, with my eyes!”

6 Then flew one of the seraphs to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.

6 Then one of the seraphs was sent to me, and in his hand he had a live coal that he had taken from the altar with the tongs. 6 Then one of the seraphs was sent to me, and in his hand he had a live coal that he had taken from the altar with the tongs.

7 And he laid it on my mouth, and said, Lo, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.

7 And he touched my mouth and said. “Look, this has touched your lips, and it will take away your lawlessness and clear away your sins.” 7 And he touched my mouth and said. “Look, this has touched your lips, and it will take away your lawlessness and clear away your sins.”

Isaiah’s Commission

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

8 καὶ ἤκουσα τῆς φωνῆς κυρίου λέγοντος τίνα ἀποστείλω, καὶ τίς πορεύσεται πρὸς τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον;
8 καὶ ἤκουσα τῆς φωνῆς Κυρίου λέγοντος· τίνα ἀποστείλω, καὶ τίς πορεύσεται πρὸς τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον;
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom should I send, and who will go to this people?” And I said, “Here I am; send me!” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom should I send, and who will go to this people?” And I said, “Here I am; send me!”

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear indeed, but understand not; and see you indeed, but perceive not.

9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people. ‛By listening you will listen, but you won’t understand, and by looking you will look, but you won’t perceive.’ 9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people. ‛By listening you will listen, but you won’t understand, and by looking you will look, but you won’t perceive.’

10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

10 For the heart of this people has grown fat, and with their ears they have heard reluctantly, and they have shut their eyes so that they might not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn; then I would heal them.” 10 For the heart of this people has grown fat, and with their ears they have heard reluctantly, and they have shut their eyes so that they might not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn; then I would heal them.”

11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,

11 καὶ εἶπα ἕως πότε, κύριε;
11 καὶ εἶπα· ἕως πότε Κύριε;
11 Then I said, “How long, Oh Lord?” And he said. “Until cities become desolate, because they are not inhabited, and houses, because there are no men, and the land will be left desolate. 11 Then I said, “How long, Oh Lord?” And he said. “Until cities become desolate, because they are not inhabited, and houses, because there are no men, and the land will be left desolate.

12 And Yahweh have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.

12 And after these things, God will keep the men far away, and those left behind will be multiplied on the land. 12 And after these things, God will keep the men far away, and those left behind will be multiplied on the land.

13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves; so the holy seed shall be the substance of it.

13 And still a tenth part is on it, and it will be plundered again, like a terebinth or an acorn tree when it falls from its receptacle.” 13 And still a tenth part is on it, and it will be plundered again, like a terebinth or an acorn tree when it falls from its receptacle.”
