1 The burden of the word of Yahweh to Israēl by Malachi.

2 I have loved you, says Yahweh. Yet you say, In what way have you loved us? Was not Esau Jacōb’s brother? Says Yahweh: yet I loved Jacōb,

2 ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς, λέγει κύριος· καὶ εἴπατε, ἐν τίνι ἠγάπησας ἡμᾶς; οὐκ ἀδελφὸς ἦν Ἡσαῦ τοῦ Ἰακώβ, λέγει κύριος, καὶ, ἠγάπησα τόν Ἰακώβ,	2 Ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς, λέγει Κύριος. καὶ εἴπατε· ἐν τίνι ἠγάπησας ἡμᾶς; οὐκ ἀδελφὸς ἦν Ἡσαῦ τοῦ Ἰακώβ; λέγει Κύριος, καὶ ἠγάπησα τόν Ἰακώβ,

4 Although Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says Yahweh of armies, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom Yahweh has indignation forever.

4 διότι ἐρεῖ, ἡ Ἰδουμαία κατέστραπται, καὶ ἐπιστρέψωμεν, καὶ ἀνοικοδομήσωμεν τὰς ἐρήμους· τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ, αὐτοὶ οἰκοδομήσουσιν, καὶ ἐγὼ καταστρέψω· καὶ ἐπικληθήσεται αὐτοῖς ὅρια ἀνομίας, καὶ λαὸς ἐφ’ ὃν παρατέτακται κύριος ἕως αἰῶνος.	4 διότι ἐρεῖ ἡ Ἰδουμαία· κατέστραπται, καὶ ἐπιστρέψωμεν καὶ ἀνοικοδομήσωμεν τὰς ἐρήμους. τάδε λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ· αὐτοὶ οἰκοδομήσουσι, καὶ ἐγὼ καταστρέψω· καὶ ἐπικληθήσεται αὐτοῖς ὅρια ἀνομίας καὶ λαὸς ἐφ’ ὃν παρατέτακται Κύριος ἕως αἰῶνος.

5 And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, Yahweh will be magnified from the border of Israēl.

6 A son honours his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? says Yahweh of armies to you, Oh priests, who despise my name. And you say, In what way have we despised your name?

6 υἱὸς δοξάζει πατέρα, καὶ δοῦλος τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ· καὶ εἰ πατήρ εἰμι ἐγώ, ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ δόξα μου; καὶ εἰ κύριός εἰμι ἐγώ, ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ φόβος μου; λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ· ὑμεῖς οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ φαυλίζοντες τὸ ὄνομά μου, καὶ εἴπατε, ἐν τίνι ἐφαυλίσαμεν τὸ ὄνομά σου;	6 Υἱὸς δοξάζει πατέρα καὶ δοῦλος τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ. καὶ εἰ πατήρ εἰμι ἐγώ, ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ δόξα μου; καὶ εἰ Κύριός εἰμι ἐγώ, ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ φόβος μου; λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ. ὑμεῖς οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ φαυλίζοντες τὸ ὄνομά μου· καὶ εἴπατε· ἐν τίνι ἐφαυλίσαμεν τὸ ὄνομά σου;

7 You offer polluted bread on my altar; and you say, In what way have we polluted you? In that you say, The table of Yahweh is contemptible.

7 προσάγοντες πρὸς τὸ θυσιαστήριόν μου ἄρτους ἠλισγημένους, καὶ εἴπατε, ἐν τίνι ἠλισγήσαμεν αὐτούς; ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς, τράπεζα κυρίου ἐξουδενωμένη ἐστίν, καὶ τὰ ἐπιτιθέμενα βρώματα ἐξουδενωμένα.	7 προσάγοντες πρὸς τὸ θυσιαστήριόν μου ἄρτους ἠλισγημένους, καὶ εἴπατε· ἐν τίνι ἠλισγήσαμεν αὐτούς; ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς· τράπεζα Κυρίου ἠλισγημένη ἐστὶ καὶ τὰ ἐπιτιθέμενα ἐξουδενώσατε.

8 And if you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now to your governor; will he be pleased with you, or accept your person? Says Yahweh of armies.

8 διότι ἐὰν προσαγάγητε τυφλὸν εἰς θυσίαν, οὐ κακόν; καὶ ἐὰν προσαγάγητε χωλὸν ἢ ἄρρωστον οὐ κακόν; προσάγαγε δὴ αὐτὸ τῷ ἡγουμένῳ σου, εἰ προσδέξεται αὐτό, εἰ λήμψεται πρόσωπόν σου, λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ.	8 διότι ἐὰν προσαγάγητε τυφλὸν εἰς θυσίας, οὐ κακόν; καὶ ἐὰν προσαγάγητε χωλὸν ἢ ἄρρωστον, οὐ κακόν; προσάγαγε δὴ αὐτῷ τῷ ἡγουμένῳ σου, εἰ προσδέξεται αὐτό, εἰ λήψεται πρόσωπόν σου, λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ.

9 And now, please, beseech God that he will be gracious to us: this has been by your means: will he regard your persons? Says Yahweh of armies.

9 καὶ νῦν ἐξιλάσκεσθε τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν, καὶ δεήθητε αὐτοῦ. ἐν χερσὶν ὑμῶν γέγονεν ταῦτα, εἰ λήμψομαι ἐξ ὑμῶν πρόσωπα ὑμῶν; λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ.	9 καὶ νῦν ἐξιλάσκεσθε τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ Θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ δεήθητε αὐτοῦ· ἐν χερσὶν ὑμῶν γέγονε ταῦτα· εἰ λήψομαι ἐξ ὑμῶν πρόσωπα ὑμῶν; λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ.
9 And now entreat the face of your God, and implore him. These things have been by your hands; will I receive your faces from among you? 10 Who is there even among you who would shut the doors for nothing?Neither do you kindle fire on my altar for nothing. I have no pleasure in you, says Yahweh of armies. Neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered to my name, and a pure offering. for my name shall be great among the heathen, says Yahweh of armies.

11 διότι ἀπ’ ἀνατολῶν ἡλίου ἕως δυσμῶν τὸ ὄνομά μου δεδόξασται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, καὶ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ θυμίαμα προσάγεται τῷ ὀνόματί μου, καὶ θυσία καθαρά· διότι μέγα τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ.	11 διότι ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν ἡλίου ἕως δυσμῶν τὸ ὄνομά μου δεδόξασται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, καὶ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ θυμίαμα προσάγεται τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ θυσία καθαρά, διότι μέγα τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ.

12 But you have profaned it, in that you say, The table of Yahweh is polluted; and the fruit of it, even his food, is contemptible.

12 ὑμεῖς δὲ βεβηλοῦτε αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς, τράπεζα κυρίου ἠλισγημένη ἐστίν, καὶ τὰ ἐπιτιθέμενα ἐξουδένωνται βρώματα αὐτοῦ·	12 ὑμεῖς δὲ βεβηλοῦτε αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς· τράπεζα Κυρίου ἠλισγημένη ἐστί, καὶ τὰ ἐπιτιθέμενα ἐξουδένωται βρώματα αὐτοῦ.

13 You said also, Look! what a weariness is it! and you have snuffed at it, says Yahweh of armies; and you brought what was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus you brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? Says Yahweh.

13 And you said, “These things are laborious, so I have snorted them out,” says the Lord Almighty; and you brought in the stolen, the lame, and the sick. if you bring the sacrifice, will I accept them from your hands? 14 But cursed be the deceiver, which has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to Yahweh a corrupt thing. for I am a great King, says Yahweh of armies, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.
