All Israēl Invited to the Passover
1 And Hezekiah sent to all Israēl and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to Yahweh Elohim of Israēl.
1 And Ezekias sent to all Israēl and Jouda, and wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasse, that they should come into the house of the Lord to Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to the Lord God of Israēl. | 1 And Ezekias sent to all Israēl and Jouda, and wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasse, that they should come into the house of the Lord to Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to the Lord God of Israēl. |
2 For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the Passover in the second month.
2 For the king, and the princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, designed to keep the Passover in the second month. | 2 For the king, and the princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, designed to keep the Passover in the second month. |
3 For they couldn’t keep it at that time, because the priests had not consecrated themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.
3 For they couldn’t keep it at that time, because a sufficient number of priest had not purified themselves, and the people wasn’t gathered to Jerusalem. | 3 For they couldn’t keep it at that time, because a sufficient number of priest had not purified themselves, and the people wasn’t gathered to Jerusalem. |
4 And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.
4 And the proposal pleased the king and the congregation. | 4 And the proposal pleased the king and the congregation. |
5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israēl, from Beer-sheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to Yahweh Elohim of Israēl at Jerusalem; for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.
5 And they established a decree that a proclamation should go through all Israēl, from Bērsabee to Dan, that they should come and keep the Passover to the Lord God of Israēl at Jerusalem; for the multitude had not done it lately according to the scripture. | 5 And they established a decree that a proclamation should go through all Israēl, from Bērsabee to Dan, that they should come and keep the Passover to the Lord God of Israēl at Jerusalem; for the multitude had not done it lately according to the scripture. |
6 So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israēl and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, You sons of Israēl, turn again to Yahweh Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Israēl, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.
6 And the posts went with the letters from the king and the princes to all Israēl and Jouda, according to the command of the king, saying, sons of Israēl, return to the Lord God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Israēl, and bring back those who have escaped even those who were left of the hand of the king of Assyria. |
7 And don’t be like your fathers, and like your brothers, who trespassed against Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as you see.
7 And don’t be as your fathers, and your brothers, who revolted from the Lord God of their fathers, and he gave them up to desolation, as you see. | 7 And don’t be as your fathers, and your brothers, who revolted from the Lord God of their fathers, and he gave them up to desolation, as you see. |
8 Now don’t be stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to Yahweh, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever; and serve Yahweh your Elohim, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.
8 And now harden not your hearts, as your fathers did: give glory to the Lord God, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever; and serve the Lord your God, and he shall turn away his fierce anger from you. | 8 And now harden not your hearts, as your fathers did: give glory to the Lord God, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever; and serve the Lord your God, and he shall turn away his fierce anger from you. |
9 For if you turn again to Yahweh, your brothers and your children shall find mercy before those who lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land; for Yahweh your Elohim is gracious and merciful, and won’t turn away his face from you, if you return to him.
9 For when you turn to the Lord, your brothers and your children shall be pitied before all that have carried them captives, and he will restore you to this land; for our Lord God is merciful and pitiful, and won’t turn away his face from you, if we return to him. | 9 For when you turn to the Lord, your brothers and your children shall be pitied before all that have carried them captives, and he will restore you to this land; for our Lord God is merciful and pitiful, and won’t turn away his face from you, if we return to him. |
10 So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even to Zebulun; but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.
10 So the posts went through from city to city in mount Ephraim, and Manasse, and as far as Zabulon; and they as it were laughed them to scorn, and mocked them. | 10 So the posts went through from city to city in mount Ephraim, and Manasse, and as far as Zabulon; and they as it were laughed them to scorn, and mocked them. |
11 Nevertheless various of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.
11 But the men of Aser, and some of Manasses and of Zabulon, were ashamed, and came to Jerusalem and Jouda. | 11 But the men of Aser, and some of Manasses and of Zabulon, were ashamed, and came to Jerusalem and Jouda. |
12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of Yahweh.
12 And the hand of the Lord was present to give them one heart to come, to do according to the commands of the king and of the princes, by the word of the Lord. | 12 And the hand of the Lord was present to give them one heart to come, to do according to the commands of the king and of the princes, by the word of the Lord. |
Passover Reinstituted
13 And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation.
13 And a great multitude were gathered to Jerusalem to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation. | 13 And a great multitude were gathered to Jerusalem to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation. |
14 And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the brook Kidron.
14 And they arose, and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all on which they burned incense to false gods they tore down and cast into the brook Kedron. | 14 And they arose, and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all on which they burned incense to false gods they tore down and cast into the brook Kedron. |
15 Then they killed the Passover on the 14th day of the second month; and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and consecrated themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of Yahweh.
15 Then they killed the Passover on the 14th day of the second month; and the priests and the Levites repented, and purified themselves, and brought whole-burnt-offerings into the house of the Lord. | 15 Then they killed the Passover on the 14th day of the second month; and the priests and the Levites repented, and purified themselves, and brought whole-burnt-offerings into the house of the Lord. |
16 And they stood in their place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of the Levites.
16 And they stood at their post, according to their ordinance, according to the commandment of Moses the man of God; and the priests received the blood from the hand of the Levites. | 16 And they stood at their post, according to their ordinance, according to the commandment of Moses the man of God; and the priests received the blood from the hand of the Levites. |
17 For there were many in the congregation who were not consecrated; therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the Passovers for everyone who wasn’t clean, to consecrate them to Yahweh.
17 For a great part of the congregation wasn’t consecrated; and the Levites were ready to kill the Passover for everyone who couldn’t consecrate himself to the Lord. | 17 For a great part of the congregation wasn’t consecrated; and the Levites were ready to kill the Passover for everyone who couldn’t consecrate himself to the Lord. |
18 For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the Passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good Yahweh pardon everyone

19 That prepares his heart to seek God, Yahweh Elohim of his fathers, though he isn’t cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.

19 The good Lord be merciful with regard to every heart that sincerely seeks the Lord God of their fathers, and is not purified according to the purification of the sanctuary. | 19 The good Lord be merciful with regard to every heart that sincerely seeks the Lord God of their fathers, and is not purified according to the purification of the sanctuary. |
20 And Yahweh listened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.
20 And the Lord listened to Ezekias, and healed the people. | 20 And the Lord listened to Ezekias, and healed the people. |
21 And the sons of Israēl who were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness; and the Levites and the priests praised Yahweh day by day, singing with loud instruments to Yahweh.
21 And the sons of Israēl who were present in Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great joy; and they continued to sing hymns to the Lord daily, and the priests and the Levites played on instruments to the Lord. | 21 And the sons of Israēl who were present in Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great joy; and they continued to sing hymns to the Lord daily, and the priests and the Levites played on instruments to the Lord. |
22 And Hezekiah spoke comfortably to all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of Yahweh; and they ate throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to Yahweh Elohim of their fathers.
22 And Ezekias encouraged all the Levites, and those who had good understanding of the Lord; and they completely kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days, offering peace-offerings, and confessing to the Lord God of their fathers. | 22 And Ezekias encouraged all the Levites, and those who had good understanding of the Lord; and they completely kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days, offering peace-offerings, and confessing to the Lord God of their fathers. |
23 And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days; and they kept other seven days with gladness.
23 And the congregation purposed together to keep other seven days; and they kept seven days with gladness. | 23 And the congregation purposed together to keep other seven days; and they kept seven days with gladness. |
24 For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the congregation 1000 bullocks and 7000 sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation 1000 bullocks and 10,000 sheep; and a great number of priests consecrated themselves.
24 For Ezekias set apart for Jouda, even for the congregation, 1000 calves and 7000 sheep; and the princes set apart for the people 1000 calves and 10,000 sheep; and the holy things of the priests abundantly. | 24 For Ezekias set apart for Jouda, even for the congregation, 1000 calves and 7000 sheep; and the princes set apart for the people 1000 calves and 10,000 sheep; and the holy things of the priests abundantly. |
25 And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israēl, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israēl, and who dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.
25 And all the congregation, the priests and the Levites, rejoiced, and all the congregation of Jouda, and they who were present of Jerusalem, and the strangers that came from the land of Israēl, and the dwellers in Jouda. | 25 And all the congregation, the priests and the Levites, rejoiced, and all the congregation of Jouda, and they who were present of Jerusalem, and the strangers that came from the land of Israēl, and the dwellers in Jouda. |
26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israēl there wasn’t the like in Jerusalem.
26 And there was great joy in Jerusalem: from the days of Salōmōn the son of David king of Israēl there wasn’t such a feast in Jerusalem. | 26 And there was great joy in Jerusalem: from the days of Salōmōn the son of David king of Israēl there wasn’t such a feast in Jerusalem. |
