Deuteronomy

1 “The Levitical priests, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israēl; they shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and his inheritance.

3 And this shall be the priest’s portion from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is ox or sheep; and they shall give to the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the stomach.

6 And if a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israēl, where he stayed, and comes with all the desire of his mind to the place which Yahweh shall choose;

8 They shall have equal portions to eat, beside what comes of the sale of his patrimony.

9 When you have come into the land which Yahweh your Elohim gives you, you shall not learn to do the abominations of those nations.

10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or who uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

10 οὐχ εὑρεθήσεται ἐν σοί περικαθαίρων τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἢ τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ ἐν πυρί, μαντευόμενος μαντείαν, κληδονιζόμενος καὶ οἰωνιζόμενος, φαρμακός,	10 οὐχ εὑρεθήσεται ἐν σοί περικαθαίρων τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἢ τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ ἐν πυρί, μαντευόμενος μαντείαν, κληδονιζόμενος καὶ οἰωνιζόμενος,

11 or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or one who consults the dead.

12 For all who do these things are an abomination to Yahweh; and because of these abominations Yahweh your Elohim drives them out from before you.

12 ἔστιν γὰρ βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ σου πᾶς ποιῶν ταῦτα· ἕνεκεν γὰρ τῶν βδελυγμάτων τούτων κύριος ἐξολεθρεύσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ σου.	12 ἔστι γὰρ βδέλυγμα Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ σου πᾶς ποιῶν ταῦτα· ἕνεκεν γὰρ τῶν βδελυγμάτων τούτων Κύριος ἐξολοθρεύσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου σου.

13 You shall be flawless before Yahweh your Elohim.

14 For these nations, which you shall possess, listened to observers of times, and to diviners; but as for you, Yahweh your Elohim hasn’t allowed you to do so.

14 τὰ γὰρ ἔθνη ταῦτα, οὓς σὺ κατακληρονομεῖς αὐτούς, οὗτοι κληδόνων καὶ μαντειῶν ἀκούσονται, σοί δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἔδωκεν κύριος ὁ θεός σου.	14 τὰ γὰρ ἔθνη ταῦτα, οὓς σὺ κατακληρονομεῖς αὐτούς, οὗτοι κληδόνων καὶ μαντειῶν ἀκούσονται, σοί δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἔδωκε Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου.

15 Yahweh your Elohim will raise up to you a Prophet from your midst, of your brothers, like me; to him you shall listen;

16 according to all that you desired of Yahweh your Elohim in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of Yahweh my Elohim, neither let me see this great fire any more, so that I won’t die.’

17 And Yahweh said to me, ‘They have well spoken what they have spoken.

18 I will raise up for them a Prophet from among their brothers, like you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

19 And it will happen, that whoever won’t listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

20 But the prophet, who shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I haven’t commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.’

21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which Yahweh hasn’t spoken?’

22 When a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the thing didn’t follow, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Yahweh hasn’t spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”

22 whatever the prophet might speak in the name of the Lord but the thing doesn’t take place and doesn’t happen, this is the word that the Lord has not spoken.
