Deuteronomy

1 “When Yahweh your Elohim has cut off the nations, whose land Yahweh your Elohim gives you, and you succeed them, and dwells in their cities, and in their houses;

3 You shall prepare a way for yourself, and divide the coasts of your land, which Yahweh your Elohim gives you to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee to that place.

3 στόχασαί σοί τὴν ὁδὸν καὶ τριμεριεῖς τὰ ὅρια τῆς γῆς σου, ἣν καταμερίζει σοί κύριος ὁ θεός σου, καὶ ἔσται καταφυγὴ ἐκεῖ παντὶ φονευτῇ.	3 στόχασαί σοι τὴν ὁδὸν καὶ τριμεριεῖς τὰ ὅρια τῆς γῆς σου, ἣν καταμερίζει σοι Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου, καὶ ἔσται ἐκεῖ καταφυγὴ παντὶ φονευτῇ.

4 And this is the case of the slayer who kills his neighbour unintentionally, whom he didn’t hate in time past; who shall flee to that place, so that he may live;

6 lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtakes him, because the way is long, and slays him; though he wasn’t worthy of death, since he didn’t hate him previously.

7 Therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall separate three cities for youselves.’

8 And if Yahweh your Elohim enlarges your coast, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;

9 if you shall keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day, to love Yahweh your Elohim, and to walk ever in his ways; then you shall add three cities more for you, besides these three.

10 That innocent blood isn’t shed in your land, which Yahweh your Elohim gives you for an inheritance, and so blood would be on you.

11 But if any man hates his neighbour, and lies in wait for him, and rises up against him, and smites him mortally so that he dies, and flees into one of these cities,

11 ἐὰν δὲ γένηται ἄνθρωπος μισῶν τὸν πλησίον καὶ ἐνεδρεύσῃ αὐτὸν καὶ ἐπαναστῇ ἐπ’ αὐτὸν καὶ πατάξῃ αὐτοῦ ψυχήν, καὶ ἀπεθάνῃ, καὶ φύγῃ εἰς μίαν τῶν πόλεων τούτων,	11 ἐὰν δὲ γένηται ἐν σοί ἄνθρωπος μισῶν τὸν πλησίον καὶ ἐνεδρεύσῃ αὐτὸν καὶ ἐπαναστῇ ἐπ’ αὐτὸν καὶ πατάξῃ αὐτοῦ ψυχήν, καὶ ἀποθάνῃ, καὶ φύγῃ εἰς μίαν τῶν πόλεων τούτων,

12 then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, so that he may die.

14 You shall not remove your neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land that Yahweh your Elohim gives you to possess.

15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sins; at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

15 One witness shall not remain to witness against a man according to all iniquity and according to all sin that he may sin. 16 If a false witness rises up against any man to testify against him what is wrong;

17 then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Yahweh, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days;

19 then you shall do to him, as he had thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put the evil away from among you.

20 And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall therefore commit no more any such evil among you.
