A Psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord over the words of Chousi the son of Jemeni. | A Psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord over the words of Chousi the son of Jemenei. |
1 Oh Lord my God, in you do I put my trust: save me from all those who persecute me, and deliver me.
1 Oh Lord my God, in you I have confidence; save me from all those who persecute me, and rescue me. | 1 Oh Lord my God, in you I have confidence; save me from all those who persecute me, and rescue me. |
2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
2 Lest like a lion, he should seize my soul, with no one to redeem or save. | 2 Lest like a lion, he should seize my soul, with no one to redeem or save. |
3 Oh Yahweh my Elohim, if I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands;
3 Oh Lord my God, if I did this; if there is injustice in my hands; | 3 Oh Lord my God, if I did this; if there is injustice in my hands; |
4 If I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me; (yes, I have delivered him who without cause is my enemy:)
4 if I repaid evil to those who repaid me, then may I fall away empty from my enemies. | 4 if I repaid evil to those who repaid me, then may I fall away empty from my enemies. |
5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yes, let him tread down my life on the earth, and lay my honour in the dust. Selah.

6 Arise, Oh Yahweh, in your anger, lift up yourself because of the rage of my enemies; and awake for me to the judgment that you have commanded.

7 So shall the congregation of the people surround you about; for their sakes therefore return you on high.
7 And the assembly of people will surround you; and for this, return on high. | 7 And the assembly of people will surround you; and for this, return on high. |
8 Yahweh shall judge the people: judge me, Oh Yahweh, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity that is in me.
8 The Lord will judge peoples; judge me, Oh Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to my innocence within me. | 8 The Lord will judge peoples; judge me, Oh Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to my innocence within me. |
9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just; for the righteous God tries the hearts and insides.
9 Please let the evil of sinners be finished; and then you shall direct the righteous; God is examining the hearts and kidneys. | 9 Please let the evil of sinners be finished; and then you shall direct the righteous; God is examining the hearts and kidneys. |
10 My defence is of God, who saves the upright in heart.
10 My help from God is righteous, he is saving the upright in heart. | 10 My help from God is righteous, he is saving the upright in heart. |
11 God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
11 God is a righteous judge, strong, and patient; he doesn’t bring on wrath every day. | 11 God is a righteous judge, strong, and patient; he doesn’t bring on wrath every day. |
12 If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready.
12 If you don’t turn back, he will polish his sword; he flexed his bow, and prepared it. | 12 If you don’t turn back, he will polish his sword; he flexed his bow, and prepared it. |
13 He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordains his arrows against the persecutors.
13 And on it he prepared objects of death; he completed making his arrows for the firey ones. | 13 And on it he prepared objects of death; he completed making his arrows for the firey ones. |
14 Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
14 Behold, he has laboured with unrighteousness, he has conceived pain, and gave birth to lawlessness. | 14 Behold, he has laboured with unrighteousness, he has conceived pain, and gave birth to lawlessness. |
15 He made a pit, and dug it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
15 He dug a pit and cleared it out, but he shall fall into the hole which he made. | 15 He dug a pit and cleared it out, but he shall fall into the hole which he made. |
16 His mischief shall return on his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down on his own pate.
16 His pain will return on his own head, and his unrighteousness will come down on his own crown. | 16 His pain will return on his own head, and his unrighteousness will come down on his own crown. |
17 I will praise Yahweh according to his righteousness; and will sing praise to the name of Yahweh most high.
17 I will express recognition to the Lord according to his righteousness; I will play music to the name of the Lord most high. | 17 I will express recognition to the Lord according to his righteousness; I will play music to the name of the Lord most high. |
