1And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the Lord. And the Lord said, There is guilt on Saul and his house because of his bloody murder, by which he killed the Gabaonites. | 1And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the Lord. And the Lord said, There is guilt on Saul and his house because of his bloody murder, by which he killed the Gabaonites. |
2And the king called the Gibeonites, and said to them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israēl, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the sons of Israēl had sworn to them; and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the sons of Israēl and Judah.)
2And King David called the Gabaonites, and said to them; –(now the Gabaonites are not the sons of Israēl, but are of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israēl had sworn to them; but Saul sought to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israēl and Jouda.) | 2And King David called the Gabaonites, and said to them; –(now the Gabaonites are not the sons of Israēl, but are of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israēl had sworn to them; but Saul sought to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israēl and Jouda.) |
3Therefore David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? And with which shall I make the atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of Yahweh?
3And David said to the Gabaonites, What shall I do to you? And in what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord? | 3And David said to the Gabaonites, What shall I do to you? And in what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord? |
4And the Gibeonites said to him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us you shall kill any man in Israēl. And he said, What you shall say, that will I do for you.

4And the Gabaonites said to him, We have no question about silver or gold with Saul and with his house; and there is no man for us to put to death in Israēl. | 4And the Gabaonites said to him, We have no question about silver or gold with Saul and with his house; and there is no man for us to put to death in Israēl. |
5And they answered the king, The man who consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israēl,

5And he said, What say you? speak, and I will do it for you. And they said to the king, The man who would have made an end of us, and persecuted us, who plotted against us to destroy us, let’s utterly destroy him, so that he shall have no standing in all the coasts of Israēl. | 5And he said, What say you? speak, and I will do it for you. And they said to the king, The man who would have made an end of us, and persecuted us, who plotted against us to destroy us, let’s utterly destroy him, so that he shall have no standing in all the coasts of Israēl. |
6Let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to Yahweh in Gibeah of Saul, whom Yahweh did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

6Let one give us seven men of his sons, and let’s hang them up in the sun to the Lord in Gabaon of Saul, as chosen out for the Lord. And the king said, I will give them. | 6Let one give us seven men of his sons, and let’s hang them up in the sun to the Lord in Gabaon of Saul, as chosen out for the Lord. And the king said, I will give them. |
7But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Yahweh’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
7But the king spared Memphibosthe son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, even between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. | 7But the king spared Memphibosthe son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, even between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. |
8But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she gave birth to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
8And the king took the two sons of Respha the daughter of Aia, whom she gave birth to Saul, Hermonoi and Memphibosthe, and the five sons of Michol daughter of Saul, whom she gave birth to Esdriel son of Berzelli the Moulathite. | 8And the king took the two sons of Respha the daughter of Aia, whom she gave birth to Saul, Hermonoi and Memphibosthe, and the five sons of Michol daughter of Saul, whom she gave birth to Esdriel son of Berzelli the Moulathite. |
9And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before Yahweh; and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
9And he gave them into the hand of the Gabaonites, and they hanged them up to the sun in the mountain before the lord; and they fell, even the seven together: moreover they were put to death in the days of harvest at the commencement, in the beginning of barley-harvest. | 9And he gave them into the hand of the Gabaonites, and they hanged them up to the sun in the mountain before the lord; and they fell, even the seven together: moreover they were put to death in the days of harvest at the commencement, in the beginning of barley-harvest. |
10And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped on them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
10And Respha the daughter of Aia took sackcloth, and set it up as a tent for herself on the rock in the beginning of barley harvest, until water dropped on them out of heaven; and she didn’t suffer the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. | 10And Respha the daughter of Aia took sackcloth, and set it up as a tent for herself on the rock in the beginning of barley harvest, until water dropped on them out of heaven; and she didn’t suffer the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. |
11And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
11And it was told David what Respha the daughter of Aia the concubine of Saul had done, [and they were faint, and Dan, the son of Joa of the offspring of the giants overtook them.] | 11And it was told David what Respha the daughter of Aia the concubine of Saul had done, [and they were faint, and Dan, the son of Joa of the offspring of the giants overtook them.] |
12And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, which had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Allophyles had hanged them, when the Allophyles had slain Saul in Gilboa.
12And David went and took the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the men of the sons of Jabis Galaad, who stole them from the street of Baethsan; for the Allophyles set them there in the day in which the Allophyles smote Saul in Gelbue. | 12And David went and took the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the men of the sons of Jabis Galaad, who stole them from the street of Baethsan; for the Allophyles set them there in the day in which the Allophyles smote Saul in Gelbue. |
13And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
13And he carried up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son, and gathered the bones of those who had been hanged. | 13And he carried up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son, and gathered the bones of those who had been hanged. |
14And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father; and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.
