Co-workers for God
And I, brothers, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to fleshly men, as to infants in Christ. | And I, brothers, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to fleshly men, as to infants in Christ. |
οὐ
γὰρ
I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not able. But even now you are not able, | I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not able. But even now you are not able, |
3:3 ἔτι
γὰρ
for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and walking like a mere man? | for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife and division among you, are you not fleshly, and walking like a mere man? |
For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollōs,” are you not mere men? | For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollōs,” are you not flesh? |
3:5 Τί
οὖν
What then is Apollōs? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to each one. | What then is Apollōs? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to each one. |
I planted, Apollōs watered, but God was causing growth. | I planted, Apollōs watered, but God was causing growth. |
So then neither the one who plants is anything, nor the one who waters, but God who causes growth. | So then neither the one who plants is anything, nor the one who waters, but God who causes growth. |
Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labour. | Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labour. |
For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. | For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. |
τὴν
τοῦ
τὴν
μοι
ὡς
δὲ
According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise architech I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it. | According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise architech I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it. |
For no one is able to lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. | For no one is able to lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. |
Now if someone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, | Now if someone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, |
each one’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work of what sort it is. | each one’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work of what sort it is. |
If the work that anyone has built on remains, he will receive a reward. | If the work that anyone has built on remains, he will receive a reward. |
If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. | If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. |
Don’t you know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? | Don’t you know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? |
If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy this one, for the temple of God is holy, which you are. | If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy this one, for the temple of God is holy, which you are. |
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become a fool, so that he may become wise. | Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become a fool, so that he may become wise. |

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”;[1] | For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”;[1] |
and again, “The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.”[2] | and again, “The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.”[2] |
So then let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, | So then let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, |
whether Paul or Apollōs or Cēphas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things are yours, | whether Paul or Apollōs or Cēphas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things are yours, |
