Let a man consider us in this manner, as servants of Christ and mangers of the mysteries of God. Let a man consider us in this manner, as servants of Christ and mangers of the mysteries of God.
In this case, moreover, it is required of managers, that one be found faithful. In this case, moreover, it is required of managers, that one be found faithful.
But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human judgment; in fact, I don’t even examine myself. But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human judgment; in fact, I don’t even examine myself.
For I am aware of nothing about myself, yet I am not justified by this; but the one who examines me is the Lord. For I am aware of nothing about myself, yet I am not justified by this; but the one who examines me is the Lord.
Therefore don’t judge before the time, until the Lord comes who will both illuminate the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the plans of men’s hearts; and then each one’s praise will come from God. Therefore don’t judge before the time, until the Lord comes who will both illuminate the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the plans of men’s hearts; and then each one’s praise will come from God.
Now these things, brothers, I have comparatively applied to myself and Apollōs for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to go beyond what is written, so that not one of you will become conceited, one against the other. Now these things, brothers, I have comparatively applied to myself and Apollōs for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to think beyond what is written, so that not one of you will become conceited, one against the other.
4:7 τίς γάρ σε διακρίνει;
τί δὲ ἔχεις οὐκ ἔλαβες;
εἰ δὲ καὶ ἔλαβες, τί καυχᾶσαι ὡς μὴ λαβών;
7 τίς γάρ σε διακρίνει;
τί δὲ ἔχεις οὐκ ἔλαβες;
εἰ δὲ καὶ ἔλαβες, τί καυχᾶσαι ὡς μὴ λαβών;
For who makes you different? What do you have that you didn’t receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? For who makes you different? What do you have that you didn’t receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
You have already been filled, you have already become rich, you became kings without us; and indeed, I wish that you had become kings so that we also might reign with you. You have already been filled, you have already become rich, you became kings without us; and indeed, I wish that you had become kings so that we also might reign with you.
For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. For, I think, that God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
We are fools because of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honour. We are fools because of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honour.
To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are battered, and are homeless; To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are battered, and are homeless;
and we labour, working with our own hands; when we are defamed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure; and we labour, working with our own hands; when we are defamed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;
when we are slandered, we conciliate; we have become as the filth of the world, the scum of all things, until now. when we are slandered, we conciliate; we have become as the filth of the world, the scum of all things, until now.
I don’t write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. I don’t write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
For if you were to have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I fathered you through the gospel. For if you were to have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I fathered you through the gospel.
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me.
For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ [Jesus], just as I teach everywhere in every church. For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.
Now some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. Now some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you.
But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the statement of those who are arrogant but their action. But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the statement of those who are arrogant but their action.
For the kingdom of God doesn’t consist in a statement but in action. For the kingdom of God doesn’t consist in a statement but in action.
4:21 τί θέλετε;
ἐν ῥάβδῳ ἔλθω πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν ἀγάπῃ πνεύματί τε πραΰτητος;
21 τί θέλετε;
ἐν ῥάβδῳ ἔλθω πρὸς ὑμᾶς, ἐν ἀγάπῃ, πνεύματί τε πρᾳότητος;
What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness? What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?
