II Kings

1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 31 years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

2 And he did what was right in the sight of Yahweh, and walked in all the way of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 And it came to be in the 18th year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Yahweh, saying,

5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of Yahweh; and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of Yahweh, to repair the breaches of the house,

5 And let them give it into the hand of the workmen that are appointed in the house of the Lord. 6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

7 However there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

8 And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

8 καὶ εἶπεν Χελκίας ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας πρὸς Σαφφὰν τὸν γραμματέα βιβλίον τοῦ νόμου εὗρον ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου· καὶ ἔδωκεν Χελκίας τὸ βιβλίον πρὸς Σαφφάν, καὶ ἀνέγνω αὐτό.	8 καὶ εἶπε Χελκίας ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας πρὸς Σαπφὰν τὸν γραμματέα· βιβλίον τοῦ νόμου εὗρον ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου· καὶ ἔδωκε Χελκίας τὸ βιβλίον πρὸς Σαπφάν, καὶ ἀνέγνω αὐτό.

9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Your servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of those who do the work, that have the oversight of the house of Yahweh.

11 And it came to be, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he tore his clothes.

12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,

12 καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Χελκίᾳ ~ τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ τῷ Ἀχικὰμ υἱῷ Σαφφὰν καὶ τῷ Ἀχοβὼρ υἱῷ Μιχαίου καὶ τῷ Σαφφὰν τῷ γραμματεῖ καὶ τῷ Ἀσαίᾳ δούλῳ τοῦ βασιλέως λέγων	12 καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Χελκίᾳ τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ τῷ Ἀχικὰμ υἱῷ Σαπφὰν καὶ τῷ Ἀχοβὼρ υἱῷ Μιχαίου καὶ τῷ Σαπφὰν τῷ γραμματεῖ καὶ τῷ Ἀσαΐᾳ δούλῳ τοῦ βασιλέως λέγων·

13 Go you, inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Yahweh that is kindled against us, because our fathers haven’t listened to the words of this book, to do according to all what is written concerning us.

13 δεῦτε ἐκζητήσατε τὸν κύριον περὶ ἐμοῦ καὶ περὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ περὶ παντὸς τοῦ Ἰούδα περὶ τῶν λόγων τοῦ βιβλίου τοῦ εὑρεθέντος τούτου, ὅτι μεγάλη ἡ ὀργὴ κυρίου ἡ ἐκκεκαυμένη ἐν ἡμῖν ὑπὲρ οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν τῶν λόγων τοῦ βιβλίου τούτου τοῦ ποιεῖν κατὰ πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα καθ’ ἡμῶν.	13 δεῦτε ἐκζητήσατε τὸν Κύριον περὶ ἐμοῦ καὶ περὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ περὶ παντὸς τοῦ Ἰούδα περὶ τῶν λόγων τοῦ βιβλίου τοῦ εὑρεθέντος τούτου, ὅτι μεγάλη ἡ ὀργὴ Κυρίου ἡ ἐκκεκαυμένη ἐν ἡμῖν, ὑπὲρ οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν τῶν λόγων τοῦ βιβλίου τούτου τοῦ ποιεῖν κατὰ πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα καθ’ ἡμῶν.

14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

14 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Χελκίας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ Ἀχικὰμ καὶ Ἀχοβὼρ καὶ Σαφφὰν καὶ Ἀσαίας πρὸς Ὀλδὰν τὴν προφῆτιν γυναῖκα Σελλὴμ υἱοῦ Θεκουὲ υἱοῦ Ἀραὰς τοῦ ἱματιοφύλακος, καὶ αὐτὴ κατῴκει ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐν τῇ μασενα, καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς αὐτήν.	14 καὶ ἐπορεύθης Χελκίας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ Ἀχικὰμ καὶ Ἀχοβὼρ καὶ Σαπφὰν καὶ Ἀσαΐας πρὸς Ὄλδαν τὴν προφῆτιν μητέρα Σελλὴμ υἱοῦ Θεκουὲ υἱοῦ Ἀραὰς τοῦ ἱματιοφύλακος, καὶ αὕτη κατῴκει ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐν τῇ Μασενᾷ, καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς αὐτήν.

15 And she said to them, Thus says Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, Tell the man who sent you to me,

16 Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on the inhabitants of it, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

17 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

19 Because your heart was tender, and you have humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against the inhabitants of it, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have rent your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you, says Yahweh.

19 ἀνθ’ ὧν ὅτι ἡπαλύνθη ἡ καρδία σου καὶ ἐνετράπης ἀπὸ προσώπου κυρίου, ὡς ἤκουσας ὅσα ἐλάλησα ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἐνοικοῦντας αὐτὸν τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ εἰς κατάραν, καὶ διέρρηξας τὰ ἱμάτιά σου καὶ ἔκλαυσας ἐνώπιον ἐμοῦ, καί γε ἐγὼ ἤκουσα, λέγει κύριος.	19 ἀνθ’ ὧν ὅτι ἡπαλύνθη ἡ καρδία σου καὶ ἐνετράπης ἀπὸ προσώπου, ὡς ἤκουσας ὅσα ἐλάλησα ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἐνοικοῦντας αὐτὸν τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ εἰς κατάραν, καὶ διέρρηξας τὰ ἱμάτιά σου καὶ ἔκλαυσας ἐνώπιόν μου, καί γε ἐγὼ ἤκουσα, λέγει Κύριος.

20 Behold therefore, I will gather to your fathers, and you shall be gathered into your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring on this place. And they brought the king word again.
