The Young Shulammite Bride and Jerusalem’s Daughters
1 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.

2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; for your love is better than wine.
2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: because your breasts are good beyond wine. | 2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: because your breasts are good beyond wine. |
3 Because of the savour of your good ointments your name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love you.

4 They draw you: we will run after you, for the fragrance of your ointments; the king brought me into his bedroom; let’s be glad and rejoice in you; we will love your breasts beyond wine; righteousness loved you. | 4 They draw you: we will run after you, for the fragrance of your ointments; the king brought me into his bedroom; let’s be glad and rejoice in you; we will love your breasts beyond wine; righteousness loved you. |
5 I am black, but comely, Oh you daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.
5 I am black and beautiful, you daughters of Hierousalēm, as the tents of Kēdar, as the leather coverings of Salōmōn. | 5 I am black and beautiful, you daughters of Hierousalēm, as the tents of Kēdar, as the leather coverings of Salōmōn. |
6 Look not on me, because I am black, because the sun has looked on me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but my own vineyard I haven’t kept.
6 Don’t look on me, because I am darkened, because the sun has looked down on me; my mother’s sons quarreled with me; they made me a keeper in the vineyards; I didn’t keep my own vineyard. | 6 Don’t look on me, because I am darkened, because the sun has looked down on me; my mother’s sons quarreled with me; they made me a keeper in the vineyards; I didn’t keep my own vineyard. |
7 Tell me, Oh you whom my soul loves, where you feed, where you make your flock to rest at noon; for why should I be as one who turns aside by the flocks of your companions?
7
Tell me, you whom my soul loved, where you tend your flock, where you lie down at noon, lest I become as one who is wrapped aroung by the flocks of your companions. |
7
Tell me, you whom my soul loved, where you tend your flock, where you lie down at noon, lest I become as one who is wrapped aroung by the flocks of your companions. |
Solomon, the Lover, Speaks
8 If you don’t know, Oh you fairest among women, go your way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed your kids beside the shepherds’ tents.
8 If you don’t know yourself, fair one among women, go out by the footprints of the flocks, and pasture your kids by the shepherd’s tents. | 8 If you don’t know yourself, fair one among women, go out by the footprints of the flocks, and pasture your kids by the shepherd’s tents. |
9 I have compared you, Oh my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s chariots.
9 I have compared you, my near one, to my mare in Pharaō’s chariots. | 9 I have compared you, my near one, to my mare in Pharaō’s chariots. |
10 Your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, your neck with chains of gold.
10 How have your beautiful cheeks become like turtledoves, your neck like necklaces? | 10 How have your beautiful cheeks become like turtledoves, your neck like necklaces? |
11 We will make you borders of gold with studs of silver.
11 We will make for you images of gold with studs of silver. | 11 We will make for you images of gold with studs of silver. |
12 While the king sits at his table, my spikenard sends forth the smell of it.
12 While the king was on his couch, my nard gave forth its fragrance. | 12 While the king was on his couch, my nard gave forth its fragrance. |
13 A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved to me; he shall lie all night between my breasts.
13 My dear relative is to me a bag of myrrh; he shall spend the night between my breasts. | 13 My dear relative is to me a bag of myrrh; he shall spend the night between my breasts. |
14 My beloved is to me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of En-gedi.
14 My dear relative is to me a cluster of camphor in the vineyards of Engaddi. | 14 My dear relative is to me a cluster of camphor in the vineyards of Engaddi. |
15 Behold, you are fair, my love; behold, you are fair; you have doves’ eyes.
15 Look! you are beautiful, my dear one. Look! you are beautiful; your eyes are doves. | 15 Look! you are beautiful, my dear one. Look! you are beautiful; your eyes are doves. |
16 Behold, you are fair, my beloved, yes, pleasant: also our bed is green.
16 Look! you are beautiful, my dear relative; Behold, you are fair, my kinsman, yes, graceful; our bed is shaded. | 16 Look! you are beautiful, my dear relative; Behold, you are fair, my kinsman, yes, graceful; our bed is shaded. |
17 The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.
