1 Why do you stand afar off, Oh Yahweh? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

לָמָה יְהוָה תַּעֲמֹד בְּרָחֹוק תַּעְלִים לְעִתֹּות בַּצָּרָה׃

1 Ἵνα τί, κύριε, ἀφέστηκας μακρόθεν, ὑπερορᾷς ἐν εὐκαιρίαις, ἐν θλίψει;	1 Ἱνατί, Κύριε, ἀφέστηκας μακροθυμεῖ, ὑπερορᾷς ἐν εὐκαιρίαις ἐν θλίψεσιν;

2 The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

בְּגַאֲוַת רָשָׁע יִדְלַק עָנִי יִתָּפְשׂוּ בִּמְזִמֹּות זוּ חָשָׁבוּ׃

3 For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire, and blesses the covetous, whom Yahweh abhors.

כִּי ־ הִלֵּל רָשָׁע עַל ־ תַּאֲוַת נַפְשֹׁו וּבֹצֵעַ בֵּרֵךְ נִאֵץ יְהוָה׃

3 ὅτι ἐπαινεῖται ὁ ἁμαρτωλὸς ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὁ ἀδικῶν ἐνευλογεῖται.	3 ὅτι ἐπαινεῖται ὁ ἁμαρτωλὸς ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὁ ἀδικῶν ἐνευλογεῖται·

4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, won’t seek after God; God is not in all his thoughts.

רָשָׁע כְּגֹבַהּ אַפֹּו בַּל ־ יִדְרֹשׁ אֵין אֱלֹהִים כָּל ־ מְזִמֹּותָיו׃

5 His ways are always grievous; your judgments are far above out of his sight; as for all his enemies, he puffs at them.

יָחִילוּ דָרְכּו בְּכָל ־ עֵת מָרֹום מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ מִנֶּגְדֹּו כָּל ־ צֹורְרָיו יָפִיחַ בָּהֶם׃

5 βεβηλοῦνται αἱ ὁδοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἀνταναιρεῖται τὰ κρίματά σου ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ, πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ κατακυριεύσει.	5 βεβηλοῦνται αἱ ὁδοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ, ἀνταναιρεῖται τὰ κρίματά σου ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ, πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ κατακυριεύσει·

6 He has said in his heart, I shall not be moved; for I shall never be in adversity.

7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud; under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

אָלָה פִּיהוּ מָלֵא וּמִרְמֹות וָתֹךְ תַּחַת לְשֹׁונֹו עָמָל וָאָוֶן׃

8 He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the secret places he murder the innocent; his eyes are privately set against the poor.

יֵשֵׁב בְּמַאְרַב חֲצֵרִים בַּמִּסְתָּרִים יַהֲרֹג נָקִי עֵינָיו לְחֵלְכָה יִצְפֹּנוּ׃

8 ἐγκάθηται ἐνέδρᾳ μετὰ πλουσίων ἐν ἀποκρύφοις, ἀποκτεῖναι ἀθῷον· οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν πένητα ἀποβλέπουσιν.	8 ἐγκάθηται ἐνέδρᾳ μετὰ πλουσίων, ἐν ἀποκρύφοις τοῦ ἀποκτεῖναι ἀθῷον· οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν πένητα ἀποβλέπουσιν·

9 He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den; he lies in wait to catch the poor; he catches the poor, when he draws him into his net.

יֶאֱרֹב בַּמִּסְתָּר כְּאַרְיֵה בְסֻכֹּה יֶאֱרֹב לַחֲטֹוף עָנִי יַחְטֹף עָנִי בְּמָשְׁכֹו בְרִשְׁתֹּו׃

9 ἐνεδρεύει ἐν ἀποκρύφῳ ὡς λέων ἐν τῇ μάνδρᾳ αὐτοῦ· ἐνεδρεύει τοῦ ἁρπάσαι πτωχόν, ἁρπάσαι πτωχὸν ἐν τῷ ἑλκύσαι αὐτόν·	9 ἐνεδρεύει ἐν ἀποκρύφῳ ὡς λέων ἐν τῇ μάνδρᾳ αὐτοῦ, ἐνεδρεύει τοῦ ἁρπάσαι πτωχόν, ἁρπάσαι πτωχὸν ἐν τῷ ἑλκύσαι αὐτόν·

10 He crouches, and humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

וַדָּכַה יָשֹׁחַ וְנָפַל בַּעֲצוּמָיו חֶלְכָּאִים

11 He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; he hides his face; he will never see it.

אָמַר בְּלִבֹּו שָׁכַח אֵל הִסְתִּיר פָּנָיו בַּל ־ רָאָה לָנֶצַח׃

12 Arise, Oh Yahweh; Oh God, lift up your hand; don’t forget the humble.

13 Why does the wicked contemn God? He has said in his heart, You won’t require it.

עַל ־ מֶה נִאֵץ רָשָׁע אֱלֹהִים אָמַר בְּלִבֹּו לֹא תִּדְרֹשׁ׃

14 You have seen it; for you behold mischief and spite, to requite it with your hand; the poor commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

רָאִתָה כִּי ־ אַתָּה עָמָל וָכַעַס תַּבִּיט לָתֵת בְּיָדֶךָ עָלֶיךָ יַעֲזֹב חֵלֶכָה יָתֹום אַתָּה הָיִיתָ עֹוזֵר׃

14 βλέπεις, ὅτι σὺ πόνον καὶ θυμὸν κατανοεῖς, τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖράς σου· σοί οὖν ἐγκαταλέλειπται ὁ πτωχός, ὀρφανῷ σὺ ἦσθα βοηθῶν.	14 βλέπεις, ὅτι σὺ πόνον καὶ θυμὸν κατανοεῖς τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖράς σου· σοί ἐγκαταλέλειπται ὁ πτωχός, ὀρφανῷ σὺ ᾖσθα βοηθός.

15 Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness till you find none.

שְׁבֹר זְרֹועַ רָשָׁע וָרָע תִּדְרֹושׁ ־ רִשְׁעֹו בַל ־ תִּמְצָא׃

16 Yahweh is King forever and ever; the heathen are perished out of his land.

17 Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will prepare their heart, you will cause your ear to hear;

תַּאֲוַת עֲנָוִים שָׁמַעְתָּ יְהוָה תָּכִין לִבָּם תַּקְשִׁיב אָזְנֶךָ׃

18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

לִשְׁפֹּט יָתֹום וָדָךְ בַּל ־ יֹוסִיף עֹוד לַעֲרֹץ אֱנֹושׁ מִן ־ הָאָרֶץ׃
