I Kings

1 [M 5:15] And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father; for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

וַיִּשְׁלַח חִירָם מֶלֶךְ ־ צֹור אֶת ־ עֲבָדָיו אֶל ־ שְׁלֹמֹה כִּי שָׁמַע כִּי אֹתֹו מָשְׁחוּ לְמֶלֶךְ תַּחַת אָבִיהוּ כִּי אֹהֵב הָיָה חִירָם לְדָוִד כָּל ־ הַיָּמִים׃ ס

2 [M 5:16] And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

וַיִּשְׁלַח שְׁלֹמֹה אֶל ־ חִירָם לֵאמֹר׃

אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ אֶת ־ דָּוִד אָבִי כִּי לֹא יָכֹל לִבְנֹות בַּיִת לְשֵׁם יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו מִפְּנֵי הַמִּלְחָמָה אֲשֶׁר סְבָבֻהוּ עַד תֵּת ־ יְהוָה אֹתָם תַּחַת כַּפֹּות רַגְלֹו

3 σὺ οἶδας Δαυὶδ τὸν πατέρα μου ὅτι οὐκ ἐδύνατο οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι κυρίου θεοῦ μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν πολέμων τῶν κυκλωσάντων αὐτὸν ἕως τοῦ δοῦναι κύριον αὐτοὺς ὑπὸ τὰ ἴχνη τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ.	3 σὺ οἶδας τὸν πατέρα μου Δαυὶδ ὅτι οὐκ ἠδύνατο οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου Θεοῦ μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν πολέμων τῶν κυκλωσάντων αὐτὸν ἕως τοῦ δοῦναι Κύριον αὐτοὺς ὑπὸ τὰ ἴχνη τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ.

4 [M 5:18] But now Yahweh my Elohim has given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

וְעַתָּה הֵנִיחַ יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי לִי מִסָּבִיב אֵין שָׂטָן וְאֵין פֶּגַע רָע׃

5 [M 5:19] And, behold, I purpose to build a house to the name of Yahweh my Elohim, as Yahweh spoke to David my father, saying, Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your room, he shall build a house to my name.

6 [M 5:20] Now therefore command that they cut for me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with your servants; and to you will I give hire for your servants according to all that you shall appoint; for you know that there is not among us any that can skill to cut timber like the Sidonians.

וְעַתָּה צַוֵּה וְיִכְרְתוּ ־ לִי אֲרָזִים מִן ־ הַלְּבָנֹון וַעֲבָדַי יִהְיוּ עִם ־ עֲבָדֶיךָ וּשְׂכַר עֲבָדֶיךָ אֶתֵּן לְךָ כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר תֹּאמֵר כִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ כִּי אֵין בָּנוּ אִישׁ יֹדֵעַ לִכְרָת ־ עֵצִים כַּצִּדֹנִים׃

7 [M 5:21] And it happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be Yahweh this day, which has given to David a wise son over this great people.

וַיְהִי כִּשְׁמֹעַ חִירָם אֶת ־ דִּבְרֵי שְׁלֹמֹה וַיִּשְׂמַח מְאֹד וַיֹּאמֶר בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה הַיֹּום אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לְדָוִד בֵּן חָכָם עַל ־ הָעָם הָרָב הַזֶּה׃

7 καὶ ἐγενήθη καθὼς ἤκουσεν Χιρὰμ τῶν λόγων Σαλωμών, ἐχάρη σφόδρα καὶ εἶπεν Εὐλογητὸς ὁ θεὸς σήμερον, ὃς ἔδωκεν τῷ Δαυὶδ υἱὸν φρόνιμον ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν τὸν πολὺν τοῦτον.	7 καὶ ἐγενήθη καθὼς ἤκουσε Χιρὰμ τῶν λόγων Σαλωμών, ἐχάρη σφόδρα καὶ εἶπεν· εὐλογητὸς ὁ Θεὸς σήμερον, ὃς ἔδωκε τῷ Δαυὶδ υἱὸν φρόνιμον ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν τὸν πολὺν τοῦτον

8 [M 5:22] And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which you sent to me for; and I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

וַיִּשְׁלַח חִירָם אֶל ־ שְׁלֹמֹה לֵאמֹר שָׁמַעְתִּי אֵת אֲשֶׁר ־ שָׁלַחְתָּ אֵלָי אֲנִי אֶעֱשֶׂה אֶת ־ כָּל ־ חֶפְצְךָ בַּעֲצֵי אֲרָזִים וּבַעֲצֵי בְרֹושִׁים׃

9 [M 5:23] My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; and I will convey them by sea in floats to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and you shall receive them; and you shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

עֲבָדַי יֹרִדוּ מִן ־ הַלְּבָנֹון יָמָּה וַאֲנִי אֲשִׂימֵם דֹּבְרֹות בַּיָּם עַד ־ הַמָּקֹום אֲשֶׁר ־ תִּשְׁלַח אֵלַי וְנִפַּצְתִּים שָׁם וְאַתָּה תִשָּׂא וְאַתָּה תַּעֲשֶׂה אֶת ־ חֶפְצִי לָתֵת לֶחֶם בֵּיתִי׃

9 οἱ δοῦλοί μου κατάξουσιν αὐτὰ ἐκ τοῦ Λιβάνου εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἐγὼ θήσομαι αὐτὰ σχεδίας ἕως τοῦ τόπου, οὗ ἐὰν ἀποστείλῃς πρός με, καὶ ἐκτινάξω αὐτὰ ἐκεῖ καὶ σὺ ἀρεῖς· καὶ ποιήσεις τὸ θέλημά μου τοῦ δοῦναι ἄρτους τῷ οἴκῳ μου.	9 οἱ δοῦλοί μου κατάξουσιν αὐτὰ ἐκ τοῦ Λιβάνου εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἐγὼ θήσομαι αὐτὰ σχεδίας ἕως τοῦ τόπου, οὗ ἐὰν ἀποστείλῃς πρός με, καὶ ἐκτινάξω αὐτὰ ἐκεῖ, καὶ σὺ ἀρεῖς· καὶ ποιήσεις τὸ θέλημά μου, τοῦ δοῦναι ἄρτους τῷ οἴκῳ μου.

10 [M 5:24] So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

וַיְהִי חִירֹום נֹתֵן לִשְׁלֹמֹה עֲצֵי אֲרָזִים וַעֲצֵי בְרֹושִׁים כָּל ־ חֶפְצֹו׃

11 [M 5:25] And Solomon gave Hiram 20,000 measures of wheat for food to his household, and 20 measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

11 καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἔδωκεν τῷ Χιρὰμ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας κόρους πυροῦ καὶ μαχιρ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας βὲθ ἐλαίου κεκομμένου· κατὰ τοῦτο ἐδίδου Σαλωμὼν τῷ Χιρὰμ κατ’ ἐνιαυτόν.	11 καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἔδωκε τῷ Χιρὰμ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας κόρους πυροῦ καὶ μαχεὶρ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας βαὶθ ἐλαίου κεκομμένου· κατὰ τοῦτο ἐδίδου Σαλωμὼν τῷ Χιρὰμ κατ’ ἐνιαυτόν.

12 [M 5:26] And Yahweh gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and those two made a league together.

וַיהוָה נָתַן חָכְמָה לִשְׁלֹמֹה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר ־ לֹו וַיְהִי שָׁלֹם בֵּין חִירָם וּבֵין שְׁלֹמֹה וַיִּכְרְתוּ בְרִית שְׁנֵיהֶם׃

12 καὶ κύριος ἔδωκεν σοφίαν τῷ Σαλωμών, καθὼς ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ καὶ ἦν εἰρήνη ἀνὰ μέσον Χιρὰμ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Σαλωμών, καὶ διέθεντο διαθήκην ἀνὰ μέσον ἑαυτῶν.	12 καὶ Κύριος ἔδωκε σοφίαν τῷ Σαλωμών, καθὼς ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ· καὶ ἦν εἰρήνη ἀνὰ μέσον Χιρὰμ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Σαλωμών, καὶ διέθεντο διαθήκην ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν.

13 [M 5:27] And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israēl; and the levy was 30,000 men.

וַיַּעַל הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה מַס מִכָּל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיְהִי הַמַּס שְׁלֹשִׁים אֶלֶף אִישׁ׃

13 καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν ὁ βασιλεὺς φόρον ἐκ παντὸς Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἦν ὁ φόρος τριάκοντα χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν.	13 καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν ὁ βασιλεὺς φόρον ἐκ παντὸς Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἦν ὁ φόρος τριάκοντα χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν.

14 [M 5:28] And he sent them to Lebanon 10,000 a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the levy.

וַיִּשְׁלָחֵם לְבָנֹונָה עֲשֶׂרֶת אֲלָפִים בַּחֹדֶשׁ חֲלִיפֹות חֹדֶשׁ יִהְיוּ בַלְּבָנֹון שְׁנַיִם חֳדָשִׁים בְּבֵיתֹו וַאֲדֹנִירָם עַל ־ הַמַּס׃ ס

14 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸν Λίβανον δέκα χιλιάδες ἐν τῷ μηνί, ἀλλασσόμενοι, μῆνα ἦσαν ἐν τῷ Λιβάνῳ καὶ δύο μῆνας ἐν οἴκῳ αὐτῶν καὶ Ἀδωνιρὰμ ἐπὶ τοῦ φόρου.	14 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸν Λίβανον, δέκα χιλιάδες ἐν τῷ μηνί, ἀλλασσόμενοι, μῆνα ἦσαν ἐν τῷ Λιβάνῳ καὶ δύο μῆνας ἐν οἴκῳ αὐτῶν· καὶ Ἀδωνιρὰμ ἐπὶ τοῦ φόρου.

15 [M 5:29] And Solomon had 70,000 who carried burdens, and 80,000 stone cutters in the mountains;

וַיְהִי לִשְׁלֹמֹה שִׁבְעִים אֶלֶף נֹשֵׂא סַבָּל וּשְׁמֹנִים אֶלֶף חֹצֵב בָּהָר׃

15 καὶ ἦν τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες αἴροντες ἄρσιν καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες λατόμων ἐν τῷ ὄρει	15 καὶ ἦν τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες αἴροντες ἄρσιν καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες λατόμων ἐν τῷ ὄρει,

16 [M 5:30] Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers who were over the work, 3300, who ruled over the people who wrought in the work.

לְבַד מִשָּׂרֵי הַנִּצָּבִים לִשְׁלֹמֹה אֲשֶׁר עַל ־ הַמְּלָאכָה שְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות הָרֹדִים בָּעָם הָעֹשִׂים בַּמְּלָאכָה׃

17 [M 5:31] And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and cut stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

וַיְצַו הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיַּסִּעוּ אֲבָנִים גְּדֹלֹות אֲבָנִים יְקָרֹות לְיַסֵּד הַבָּיִת אַבְנֵי גָזִית׃

17 καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ αἴρουσιν λίθους μεγάλους τιμίους εἰς τὸν θεμέλιον τοῦ οἴκου καὶ λίθους ἀπελεκήτους·	17 N/A

18 [M 5:32] And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders cut them, and the stonesquarers; so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

וַיִּפְסְלוּ בֹּנֵי שְׁלֹמֹה וּבֹנֵי חִירֹום וְהַגִּבְלִים וַיָּכִינוּ הָעֵצִים וְהָאֲבָנִים לִבְנֹות הַבָּיִת׃ פ

18 καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τοὺς λίθους καὶ τὰ ξύλα τρία ἔτη.	18 καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τοὺς λίθους καὶ τὰ ξύλα τρία ἔτη.
