I Kings

1 And it happened in the 480th year after the sons of Israēl were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israēl, in the month Ziph, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of Yahweh.

וַיְהִי בִשְׁמֹונִים שָׁנָה וְאַרְבַּע מֵאֹות שָׁנָה לְצֵאת בְּנֵי ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאֶרֶץ ־ מִצְרַיִם בַּשָּׁנָה הָרְבִיעִית בְּחֹדֶשׁ זִו הוּא הַחֹדֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי לִמְלֹךְ שְׁלֹמֹה עַל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּבֶן הַבַּיִת לַיהוָה׃

1 Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ τεσσαρακοστῷ καὶ τετρακοσιοστῷ ἔτει τῆς ἐξόδου υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, τῷ ἔτει τῷ τετάρτῳ ἐν μηνὶ τῷ δευτέρῳ βασιλεύοντος τοῦ βασιλέως Σαλωμὼν ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ,	1 Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ τεσσαρακοστῷ καὶ τετρακοσιοστῷ ἔτει τῆς ἐξόδου υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, τῷ ἔτει τῷ τετάρτῳ ἐν μηνὶ τῷ δευτέρῳ βασιλεύοντος τοῦ βασιλέως Σαλωμὼν ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραήλ,

2 And the house which king Solomon built for Yahweh, the length of it was 60 cubits, and the breadth of it 20 cubits, and the height of it 30 cubits.

וְהַבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר בָּנָה הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה לַיהוָה שִׁשִּׁים ־ אַמָּה אָרְכֹּו וְעֶשְׂרִים רָחְבֹּו וּשְׁלֹשִׁים אַמָּה קֹומָתֹו׃

2 καὶ ὁ οἶκος, ὃν ᾠκοδόμησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν τῷ κυρίῳ, τεσσαράκοντα πήχεων μῆκος αὐτοῦ καὶ εἴκοσι ἐν πήχει πλάτος αὐτοῦ καὶ πέντε καὶ εἴκοσι ἐν πήχει τὸ ὕψος αὐτοῦ.	2 καὶ ὁ οἶκος, ὃν ᾠκοδόμησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Κυρίῳ, τεσσαράκοντα ἐν πήχει μῆκος αὐτοῦ καὶ εἴκοσιν ἐν πήχει πλάτος αὐτοῦ καὶ πέντε καὶ εἴκοσιν ἐν πήχει τὸ ὕψος αὐτοῦ.

3 And the porch before the temple of the house, 20 cubits was the length of it, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth of it before the house.

וְהָאוּלָם עַל ־ פְּנֵי הֵיכַל הַבַּיִת עֶשְׂרִים אַמָּה אָרְכֹּו עַל ־ פְּנֵי רֹחַב הַבָּיִת עֶשֶׂר בָּאַמָּה רָחְבֹּו עַל ־ פְּנֵי הַבָּיִת׃

3 καὶ τὸ αἰλὰμ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ ναοῦ, εἴκοσι ἐν πήχει μῆκος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ πλάτος τοῦ οἴκου καὶ δέκα ἐν πήχει τὸ πλάτος αὐτοῦ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ οἴκου.	3 καὶ τὸ αἰλὰμ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ ναοῦ, εἴκοσιν ἐν πήχει μῆκος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ πλάτος τοῦ οἴκου καὶ δέκα ἐν πήχει τὸ πλάτος αὐτοῦ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ οἴκου. καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τὸν οἶκον καὶ συνετέλεσεν αὐτόν.

4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.

וַיַּעַשׂ לַבָּיִת חַלֹּונֵי שְׁקֻפִים אֲטֻמִים׃

וַיִּבֶן עַל ־ קִיר הַבַּיִת יָצֹועַ סָבִיב אֶת ־ קִירֹות הַבַּיִת סָבִיב לַהֵיכָל וְלַדְּבִיר וַיַּעַשׂ צְלָעֹות סָבִיב׃

5 καὶ ἔδωκεν ἐπὶ τὸν τοῖχον τοῦ οἴκου μέλαθρα κυκλόθεν τῷ ναῷ καὶ τῷ δαβὶρ καὶ ἐποίησεν πλευρὰς κυκλόθεν.	5 καὶ ἔδωκεν ἐπὶ τὸν τοῖχον τοῦ οἴκου μέλαθρα κυκλόθεν τῷ ναῷ καὶ τῷ δαβὶρ καὶ ἐποίησε πλευρὰς κυκλόθεν.

6 The outermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad; for outside in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests all around, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.

7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought to that place; so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

וְהַבַּיִת בְּהִבָּנֹתֹו אֶבֶן ־ שְׁלֵמָה מַסָּע נִבְנָה וּמַקָּבֹות וְהַגַּרְזֶן כָּל ־ כְּלִי בַרְזֶל לֹא ־ נִשְׁמַע בַּבַּיִת בְּהִבָּנֹתֹו׃

7 καὶ ὁ οἶκος ἐν τῷ οἰκοδομεῖσθαι αὐτὸν λίθοις ἀκροτόμοις ἀργοῖς ᾠκοδομήθη, καὶ σφῦρα καὶ πέλεκυς καὶ πᾶν σκεῦος σιδηροῦν οὐκ ἠκούσθη ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ ἐν τῷ οἰκοδομεῖσθαι αὐτόν.	7 καὶ ὁ οἶκος ἐν τῷ οἰκοδομεῖσθαι αὐτὸν λίθοις ἀκροτόμοις ἀργοῖς ᾠκοδομήθη, καὶ σφῦρα καὶ πέλεκυς καὶ πᾶν σκεῦος σιδηροῦν οὐκ ἠκούσθη ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ ἐν τῷ οἰκοδομεῖσθαι αὐτόν.

8 The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house; and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.

פֶּתַח הַצֵּלָע הַתִּיכֹנָה אֶל ־ כֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַיְמָנִית וּבְלוּלִּים יַעֲלוּ עַל ־ הַתִּיכֹנָה וּמִן ־ הַתִּיכֹנָה אֶל ־ הַשְּׁלִשִׁים׃

8 καὶ ὁ πυλὼν τῆς πλευρᾶς τῆς ὑποκάτωθεν ὑπὸ τὴν ὠμίαν τοῦ οἴκου τὴν δεξιάν, καὶ ἑλικτὴ ἀνάβασις εἰς τὸ μέσον καὶ ἐκ τῆς μέσης ἐπὶ τὰ τριώροφα.	8 καὶ ὁ πυλὼν τῆς πλευρᾶς τῆς ὑποκάτωθεν ὑπὸ τὴν ὠμίαν τοῦ οἴκου τὴν δεξιάν, καὶ ἑλικτὴ ἀνάβασις εἰς τὸ μέσον καὶ ἐκ τῆς μέσης ἐπὶ τὰ τριώροφα,

9 So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.

10 And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timbers of cedar.

10 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν τοὺς ἐνδέσμους δι’ ὅλου τοῦ οἴκου, πέντε ἐν πήχει τὸ ὕψος αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνέσχεν τὸν ἔνδεσμον ἐν ξύλοις κεδρίνοις.	10 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τοὺς ἐνδέσμους δι’ ὅλου τοῦ οἴκου πέντε ἐν πήχει τὸ ὕψος αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνέσχε τὸν σύνδεσμον ἐν ξύλοις κεδρίνοις.

11 And the word of Yahweh came to Solomon, saying,

12 Concerning this house which you are in building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.

הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר ־ אַתָּה בֹנֶה אִם ־ תֵּלֵךְ בְּחֻקֹּתַי וְאֶת ־ מִשְׁפָּטַי תַּעֲשֶׂה וְשָׁמַרְתָּ אֶת ־ כָּל ־ מִצְוֹתַי לָלֶכֶת בָּהֶם וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת ־ דְּבָרִי אִתָּךְ אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתִּי אֶל ־ דָּוִד אָבִיךָ׃

12 ὁ οἶκος οὗτος, ὃν σὺ οἰκοδομεῖς, ἐὰν ὁδεύῃς τοῖς προστάγμασί μου καὶ τὰ κρίματά μου ποιῇς καὶ φυλάσσῃς πάσας τὰς ἔντολάς μου ἀναστρέφεσθαι ἐν αὐταῖς, στήσω τὸν λόγον μου, ὃν ἐλάλησα πρὸς Δαυὶδ τὸν πατέρα σου	12 ὁ οἶκος οὗτος, ὃν σὺ οἰκοδομεῖς, ἐὰν ὁδεύῃς τοῖς προστάγμασί μου καὶ τὰ κρίματά μου ποιῇς καὶ φυλάσσῃς πάσας τὰς ἔντολάς μου ἀναστρέφεσθαι ἐν αὐταῖς, στήσω τὸν λόγον μου, ὃν ἐλάλησα πρὸς Δαυὶδ τὸν πατέρα σου

וְשָׁכַנְתִּי בְּתֹוךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא אֶעֱזֹב אֶת ־ עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ ס

13 καὶ κατασκηνώσω ἐν μέσῳ υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ οὐκ ἐγκαταλείψω τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ.	13 καὶ κατασκηνώσω ἐν μέσῳ υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ οὐκ ἐγκαταλείψω τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ.

14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

וַיִּבֶן שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת ־ הַבַּיִת וַיְכַלֵּהוּ׃

15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the cieling; and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.

וַיִּבֶן אֶת ־ קִירֹות הַבַּיִת מִבַּיְתָה בְּצַלְעֹות אֲרָזִים מִקַּרְקַע הַבַּיִת עַד ־ קִירֹות הַסִּפֻּן צִפָּה עֵץ מִבָּיִת וַיְצַף אֶת ־ קַרְקַע הַבַּיִת בְּצַלְעֹות בְּרֹושִׁים׃

15 Καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν τοὺς τοίχους τοῦ οἴκου διὰ ξύλων κεδρίνων ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐδάφους τοῦ οἴκου καὶ ἕως τῶν δοκῶν καὶ ἕως τῶν τοίχων· ἐκοιλοστάθμησεν συνεχόμενα ξύλοις ἔσωθεν καὶ περιέσχεν τὸ ἔσω τοῦ οἴκου ἐν πλευραῖς πευκίναις.	15 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τοὺς τοίχους τοῦ οἴκου ἔσωθεν διὰ ξύλων κεδρίνων ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐδάφους τοῦ οἴκου καὶ ἕως τῶν τοίχων καὶ ἕως τῶν δοκῶν· ἐκοιλοστάθμησε συνεχόμενα ξύλοις ἔσωθεν καὶ περιέσχε τὸ ἔσω τοῦ οἴκου ἐν πλευραῖς πευκίναις.

16 And he built 20 cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.

וַיִּבֶן אֶת ־ עֶשְׂרִים אַמָּה מִיַּרְכֹּותֵי הַבַּיִת בְּצַלְעֹות אֲרָזִים מִן ־ הַקַּרְקַע עַד ־ הַקִּירֹות וַיִּבֶן לֹו מִבַּיִת לִדְבִיר לְקֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים׃

16 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν τοὺς εἴκοσι πήχεις ἀπ’ ἄκρου τοῦ οἴκου, τὸ πλευρὸν τὸ ἓν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐδάφους ἕως τῶν δοκῶν, καὶ ἐποίησεν ἐκ τοῦ δαβὶρ εἰς τὸ ἅγιον τῶν ἁγίων.	16 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τοὺς εἴκοσι πήχεις ἀπ’ ἄκρου τοῦ τοίχου τὸ πλευρὸν τὸ ἓν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐδάφους ἕως τῶν δοκῶν, καὶ ἐποίησε ἐκ τοῦ δαβὶρ εἰς τὸ ἅγιον τῶν ἁγίων.

17 And the house, that is, the temple before it, was 40 cubits long.

וְאַרְבָּעִים בָּאַמָּה הָיָה הַבָּיִת הוּא הַהֵיכָל לִפְנָי׃

וְאֶרֶז אֶל ־ הַבַּיִת פְּנִימָה מִקְלַעַת פְּקָעִים וּפְטוּרֵי צִצִּים הַכֹּל אֶרֶז אֵין אֶבֶן נִרְאָה׃

18 καὶ διὰ κέδρου πρὸς τὸν οἶκον ἔσω πλοκὴν ἐπαναστήσεις καὶ πέταλον καὶ ἀνάγλυφα πάντας κέδρινα οὐκ ἐφαίνετο λίθος.	18 N/A

19 And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.

וּדְבִיר בְּתֹוךְ ־ הַבַּיִת מִפְּנִימָה הֵכִין לְתִתֵּן שָׁם אֶת ־ אֲרֹון בְּרִית יְהוָה׃

19 τοῦ δαβὶρ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου ἔσωθεν δοῦναι ἐκεῖ τὴν κιβωτὸν διαθήκης κυρίου.	19 τοῦ δαβὶρ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου ἔσωθεν δοῦναι ἐκεῖ τὴν κιβωτὸν διαθήκης Κυρίου.

20 And the oracle in the forepart was 20 cubits in length, and 20 cubits in breadth, and 20 cubits in the height of it; and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

20 εἴκοσι πήχεις μῆκος καὶ εἴκοσι πήχεις πλάτος καὶ εἴκοσι πήχεις τὸ ὕψος αὐτοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸν χρυσίῳ συγκεκλεισμένῳ. καὶ ἐποίησεν θυσιαστήριον	20 εἴκοσι πήχεις μῆκος καὶ εἴκοσι πήχεις πλάτος καὶ εἴκοσι πήχεις τὸ ὕψος αὐτοῦ, καὶ περιέσχεν αὐτὸ χρυσίῳ συγκεκλεισμένῳ. καὶ ἐποίησε θυσιαστήριον

21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold; and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

וַיְצַף שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת ־ הַבַּיִת מִפְּנִימָה זָהָב סָגוּר וַיְעַבֵּר בְּרַתִּיקֹות זָהָב לִפְנֵי הַדְּבִיר וַיְצַפֵּהוּ זָהָב׃

27 And he set the cherubs within the inner house; and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubs, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

27 καὶ ἀμφότερα τὰ Χερουβὶν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ ἐσωτάτου· καὶ διεπέτασεν τὰς πτέρυγας αὐτῶν, καὶ ἥπτετο πτέρυξ μία τοῦ τοίχου, καὶ πτέρυξ ἥπτετο τοῦ τοίχου τοῦ δευτέρου, καὶ αἱ πτέρυγες αὐτῶν αἱ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου ἥπτοντο πτέρυξ πτέρυγος.	27 καὶ ἀμφότερα τὰ Χερουβὶμ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ ἐσωτάτου· καὶ διεπέτασε τὰς πτέρυγας αὐτῶν, καὶ ἥπτετο πτέρυξ μία τοῦ τοίχου, καὶ πτέρυξ Χεροὺβ τοῦ δευτέρου ἥπτετο τοῦ τοίχου τοῦ δευτέρου, καὶ αἱ πτέρυγες αὐτῶν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου ἥπτοντο πτέρυξ πτέρυγος.

29 καὶ πάντας τοὺς τοίχους τοῦ οἴκου κύκλῳ ἐγκολαπτὰ ἔγραψεν γραφίδι Χερουβίν, καὶ φοίνικες τῷ ἐσωτέρῳ ἐσωτέρῳ καὶ τῷ ἐξωτέρῳ.	29 καὶ πάντας τοὺς τοίχους τοῦ οἴκου κύκλῳ ἐγκολαπτὰ ἔγραψε γραφίδι Χερουβίμ, καὶ φοίνικες τῷ ἐσωτέρῳ καὶ τῷ ἐξωτέρῳ.

32 καὶ δύο θύρας ξύλων πευκίνων καὶ ἐγκολαπτὰ ἐπ’ αὐτῶν ἐγκεκολαμμένα Χερουβὶν καὶ φοίνικας καὶ πέταλα διαπεπετασμένα· καὶ περιέσχεν χρυσίῳ, καὶ κατέβαινεν ἐπὶ τὰ Χερουβὶν καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς φοίνικας τὸ χρυσίον.	32 καὶ δύο θύρας ξύλων πευκίνων καὶ ἐγκολαπτὸν ἐπ’ αὐτῶν ἐγκεκολαμμένα Χερουβὶμ καὶ φοίνικας καὶ πέταλα διαπεπετασμένα· καὶ περιέσχε χρυσίῳ καὶ κατέβαινεν ἐπὶ τὰ Χερουβὶμ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς φοίνικας τὸ χρυσίον.

34 καὶ ἐν ἀμφοτέραις ταῖς θύραις ξύλα πεύκινα· δύο πτυχαὶ ἡ θύρα ἡ μία καὶ στροφεῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ δύο πτυχαὶ ἡ θύρα ἡ δευτέρα, στρεφόμενα·	34 καὶ ἐν ἀμφοτέραις ταῖς θύραις ξύλα πεύκινα· δύο πτυχαὶ ἡ θύρα ἡ μία καὶ στροφεῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ δύο πτυχαὶ ἡ θύρα ἡ δευτέρα, στρεφόμενα·
