The Test for Leprosy

1 And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aarōn, saying, 1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aarōn, saying,

2 “When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a scab, or a bright spot, and it is in the skin of his flesh like the plague of leprosy; then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or to one of his sons, the priests.

2 When any man has on the skin of his body a conspicuous lesion indicating a disease, and if there is an infection of leprosy on the skin of his body, then he shall be brought to Aarōn the priest or to one of his sons the priests. 2 When any man has on the skin of his body a conspicuous lesion indicating a disease, and if there is an infection of leprosy on the skin of his body, he shall be brought to Aarōn the priest or to one of his sons the priests.

3 And the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh; and if the hair in the plague has turned white, and the plague appears deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of leprosy; and the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean.

3 And the priest shall look at the infection on the skin of his body, and if the hair in the infected area has turned white and the appearance of the infection is low in the skin of the body, it is an infection of a leprosy, and the priest shall look and declare him defiled. 3 And the priest shall look at the infection on the skin of his body, and if the hair in the infected area has turned white and the appearance of the infection is low in the skin of the body, it is an infection of a leprosy, and the priest shall look and declare him defiled.

4 If the bright spot is white in the skin of his flesh, and doesn’t appear deeper than the skin, and the hair of it isn’t turned white; then the priest shall quarantine him who has the plague seven days.

4 But if the conspicuous thing is white in the skin of his body and its appearance is not low in the surface of the skin and its hair has not changed to white hair but it is hardly visible, then the priest shall quarantine the infection for seven days. 4 But if the conspicuous thing is white in the skin of his body and its appearance is not low in the surface of the skin and its hair has not changed to white hair but it is hardly visible, then the priest shall quarantine the infection for seven days.

5 And the priest shall look on him the seventh day; and, behold, if the appearance of the plague in is at a stay, and the plague spread not in the skin; then the priest shall quarantine him seven days more.

5 and the priest shall look on the infection the seventh day; and, look, if the infection remains before him, if the infection hasn’t undergone a change in the skin, then the priest shall quarantine him the second time seven days. 5 and the priest shall look on the infection the seventh day; and, look, if the infection remains before him, if the infection hasn’t undergone a change in the skin, then the priest shall quarantine him the second time seven days.

6 And the priest shall look on him again on the seventh day; and, behold, if the plague is somewhat dark, and the plague spread not in the skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean; it is but a scab; and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.

6 And the priest shall look on him the second time on the seventh day; and, look, if the infection is faint, and the infection hasn’t undergone change in the skin, then the priest shall declare him clean; for it is a mark, and after the has washed the clothes, he will be clean. 6 And the priest shall look on him the second time on the seventh day; and, look, if the infection is faint, and the infection hasn’t undergone change in the skin, then the priest shall declare him clean; for it is a mark, and after the has washed his clothes, he will be clean.

7 But if the scab spreads much more in the skin, after that he has been seen of the priest for his cleansing, he shall be seen of the priest again.

7 But if the mark in the skin undergoes alternating changes after the priest has looked at him for his cleansing, then he shall appear a second time before the priest. 7 But if the mark in the skin undergoes alternating changes after the priest has looked at him for his cleansing, then he shall appear a second time before the priest.

8 And if the priest sees that, behold, the scab is spreading in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a leprosy.

8 And the priest shall look at him, and look, the mark has changed on his skin, then the priest shall declare him defiled; it is a leprosy. 8 And the priest shall look at him, and look, the mark has changed on his skin, then the priest shall declare him defiled; it is a leprosy.

9 When the plague of leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought to the priest;

9 And if an infection of leprosy has come on a man, then he shall go to the priest; 9 And if an infection of leprosy has come on a man, then he shall go to the priest;

10 And the priest shall see him; and, behold, if the rising is white in the skin, and it has turned the hair white, and there is quick raw flesh in the rising,

10 And the priest shall see, and look, there is a white lesion in the skin, and this has turned the hair white, and some of the healthy part of the living flesh is in the lesion; 10 And the priest shall see, and look, there is a white lesion in the skin, and this has turned the hair white, and some of the healthy part of the living flesh is in the lesion;

11 it is an old leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean, and shall not quarantine him; for he is unclean.

11 it is a leprosy that lasts long; it is in the skin of the body. And the priest shall pronounce him defiled and quarantine him, because he is unclean. 11 it is a leprosy that lasts long; it is in the skin of the body. And the priest shall pronounce him defiled and quarantine him, because he is unclean.

12 And if a leprosy breaks out abroad in the skin, and the leprosy covers all the skin of him who has the plague from his head even to his foot, wherever the priest looks;

12 But if after it breaks out, the leprosy breaks out in the skin, and the leprosy covers all the skin of the infected area, from head to foot, so far as the priest can see, 12 But if after it breaks out, the leprosy breaks out in the skin, and the leprosy covers all the skin of the infected area, from head to foot, so far as the priest can see,

13 Then the priest shall consider; and, behold, if the leprosy has covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean who has the plague; it is all turned white; he is clean.

13 then the priest shall observe, and look, the leprosy has covered all the skin of the body. And the priest shall declare him clean of the infection; since it has all turned white, he is clean. 13 then the priest shall observe, and look, the leprosy has covered all the skin of the body. And the priest shall declare him clean of the infection; since it has all turned white, he is clean.

14 But when raw flesh appears in him, he shall be unclean.

14 And on the day when ulcerating tissue appears in it, he shall be declared defiled, 14 And on the day when ulcerating tissue appears in it, he shall be declared defiled,

15 And the priest shall see the raw flesh, and pronounce him to be unclean; for the raw flesh is unclean; it is a leprosy.

15 and the priest shall look at the healthy tissue, and the healthy tissue will declare him defiled because it is unclean. It is a leprosy. 15 and the priest shall look at the healthy tissue, and the healthy tissue will declare him defiled because it is unclean. It is a leprosy.

16 Or if the raw flesh turns again, and is changed to white, he shall come to the priest;

16 But if the healthy tissue should restore and change to white, then he shall come to the priest, 16 But if the healthy tissue should restore and change to white, then he shall come to the priest,

17 And the priest shall see him; and, behold, if the plague is turned into white; then the priest shall pronounce him clean who has the plague; he is clean.

17 and the priest shall see, and look, the infection has changed to white, and the priest shall pronounce the infected area clean. It is clean. 17 and the priest shall see, and look, the infection has changed to white, and the priest shall pronounce the infected area clean. It is clean.

18 The flesh also, in which, even in the skin of it, was a boil, and is healed,

18 And if the flesh in its skin becomes a festering sore and if it heals, 18 And if the flesh in its skin becomes a festering sore and if it heals,

19 And in the place of the boil there is a white rising, or a bright spot, white, and somewhat reddish, and it is shown to the priest;

19 and in the place of the festering sore there is a white lesion or a shining one that turns white or becomes red, then he shall appear before the priest. 19 and in the place of the festering sore there is a white lesion or a shining one that turns white or becomes red, then he shall appear before the priest.

20 And if, when the priest sees it, behold, it appears lower than the skin, and the hair of it be turned white; the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprosy broken out of the boil.

20 And the priest shall see, and look, its appearance is lower than the skin, and its hair has turned white, and the priest shall pronounce him defiled; it is a leprosy; it broke out in the festering sore. 20 And the priest shall see, and look, its appearance is lower than the skin, and its hair has turned white, and the priest shall pronounce him defiled; because it is a leprosy; it broke out in the festering sore.

21 But if the priest looks on it, and, behold, there is no white hairs in it, and if it isn’t lower than the skin, but is somewhat dark; then the priest shall quarantine him seven days.

21 But if the priest sees, and look, the hair on it is not white, and it is not low in the skin of the flesh but is hardly visible, then the priest shall quarantine him seven days. 21 But if the priest sees, and look, the hair on it is not white, and it is not low in the skin of the flesh but is hardly visible, then the priest shall quarantine him seven days.

22 And if it spreads much more in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague.

22 And if it should spread out in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him defiled; it is an infection of leprosy. It has broken out in the festering sore. 22 And if by spreading it should spread out in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him defiled; it is an infection of leprosy. It has broken out in the festering sore.

23 But if the bright spot stays in its place, and spreads not, it is a burning boil; and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

23 But if the bright spot remains in place and doesn’t spread, it is the scar of the festering sore, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. 23 But if the bright spot remains in place and doesn’t spread, it is the scar of the festering sore, and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

24 Or if there is any flesh, in the skin of which there is a hot burning, and the quick flesh that burns has a white bright spot, somewhat reddish, or white,

24 And if the flesh on his skin has become a burn by fire and the healthy part of the burn on his skin becomes bright, shiny red-white or off-white, 24 And if the flesh on his skin has become a burn by fire and the healthy part of the burn on his skin becomes bright, shiny red-white or off-white,

25 then the priest shall look on it; and, behold, if the hair in the bright spot has turned white, and it appears deeper than the skin; it is a leprosy broken out of the burning; therefore the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is the plague of leprosy.

25 then the priest shall see, and look, the hair in the bright spot has turned white, and its appearance is low in the skin, it is a leprosy; it has broken out in the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him defiled. It is an infection of leprosy. 25 then the priest shall see, and look, the hair in the bright spot has turned white, and its appearance is low in the skin, it is a leprosy; it has broken out in the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him defiled. It is an infection of leprosy.

26 But if the priest looks on it, and, behold, there is no white hair in the bright spot, and it is no lower than the other skin, but is somewhat dark; then the priest shall quarantine him seven days.

26 But if the priest sees, and look, the hair in the bright spot is not white, and it is not low in the skin but is faint, then the priest shall quarantine him seven days. 26 But if the priest sees, and look, the hair in the bright spot is not white, and it is not low in the skin but is faint, then the priest shall quarantine him seven days.

27 And the priest shall look on him the seventh day; and if it has spread much more in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is the plague of leprosy.

27 And on the seventh day, the priest shall look on him, and if in spreading out it spreads in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him defiled. It is an infection of leprosy. It has broken out in the festering sore. 27 And on the seventh day, the priest shall look on him, and if in spreading out it spreads in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him defiled. It is an infection of leprosy. It has broken out in the festering sore.

28 And if the bright spot stays in its place, and spreads not in the skin, but it is somewhat dark; it is a rising of the burning, and the priest shall pronounce him clean; for it is an inflammation of the burning.

28 But if the bright spot remains in one place and doesn’t spread in the skin but is faint, it is a lesion from the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is the blemish of the burn. 28 But if the bright spot remains in one place and doesn’t spread in the skin but is faint, it is a lesion from the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is the blemish of the burn.

29 If a man or woman has a plague on the head or the beard;

29 And for a man or woman; if there is on them an infection of leprosy on the head or in the chin, 29 And for a man or woman; if there is on them an infection of leprosy on the head or in the chin,

30 then the priest shall see the plague; and, behold, if it appears deeper than the skin; and there is in it a yellow thin hair; then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a dry scall, even a leprosy on the head or beard.

30 then the priest shall examine the infection. And look, its appearance is more hollow than the skin and the hair in turning yellow is thin, then the priest shall pronounce him defiled; it is a rupture, a leprosy of the head or a leprosy of the chin. 30 then the priest shall examine the infection. And look, its appearance is more hollow than the skin and the hair in turning yellow is thin, then the priest shall pronounce him defiled; it is a rupture, a leprosy of the head or a leprosy of the chin.

31 And if the priest looks on the plague of the scall, and, behold, it doesn’t appear deeper than the skin, and that there is no black hair in it; then the priest shall quarantine him who has the plague of the scall seven days.

31 And if the priest examines the infection of the rupture, and look, its appearance is no more hollow than the skin and there is no yellow hair in it, then the priest shall quarantine the infection of the rupture for seven days. 31 And if the priest examines the infection of the rupture, and look, its appearance is no more hollow than the skin and there is no yellow hair in it, then the priest shall quarantine the infection of the rupture for seven days.

32 And on the seventh day the priest shall look on the plague; and, behold, if the scall spreads not, and there is in it no yellow hair, and the scall doesn’t appear deeper than the skin;

32 And on the seventh day, the priest shall look at the infection, and look, the rupture has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it and the appearance of the rupture is not hollow in the skin, 32 And on the seventh day, the priest shall look at the infection, and look, the rupture has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it and the appearance of the rupture is not hollow in the skin,

33 he shall be shaven, but he shall not shave the scall; and the priest shall quarantine him who has the scall seven days more.

33 then the skin shall be shaved, but the rupture shall not be shaved. And the priest shall quarantine the rupture for a second seven days. 33 then the skin shall be shaved, but the rupture shall not be shaved. And the priest shall quarantine the rupture for a second seven days.

34 And on the seventh day the priest shall look on the scall; and, behold, if the scall isn’t spread in the skin, nor appears deeper than the skin; then the priest shall pronounce him clean; and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.

34 And on the seventh day, the priest shall look at the rupture, and look, the rupture has not spread in the skin after he has been shaved and the appearance of the rupture is not hollow in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean. And he shall wash his clothes and be clean. 34 And on the seventh day, the priest shall look at the rupture, and look, the rupture has not spread in the skin after he has been shaved and the appearance of the rupture is not hollow in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean. And he shall wash his clothes and be clean.

35 But if the scall spreads much in the skin after his cleansing;

35 But if in spreading, the rupture spreads in the skin after he was pronounced clean, 35 But if in spreading, the rupture spreads in the skin after he was pronounced clean,

36 Then the priest shall look on him; and, behold, if the scall is spread in the skin, the priest shall not seek for yellow hair; he is unclean.

36 then the priest shall look. And look, the rupture has spread in the skin; the priest shall not inspect for yellow hair because he is unclean. 36 then the priest shall look. And look, the rupture has spread in the skin; the priest shall not inspect for yellow hair because he is unclean.

37 But if the scall appears at a stay, and that there is black hair grown up in it; the scall is healed, he is clean; and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

37 But if the rupture evidently remains in place, and black hair has grown in it, the rupture has healed; he is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. 37 But if the rupture evidently remains in place, and black hair has grown in it, the rupture has healed; he is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

38 If a man also or a woman has in the skin of their flesh bright spots, even white bright spots;

38 And for a man or woman; if there are bright spots on the skin of his flesh, appearing white, 38 And for a man or woman; if there are bright spots on the skin of his flesh, appearing white,

39 Then the priest shall look; and, behold, if the bright spots in the skin of their flesh be darkish white; it is a freckled spot that grows in the skin; he is clean.

39 then the priest shall see, and look, the bright spots on the skin of his flesh appear white, it is eczema; he is clean. It broke out in the skin of his flesh; he is clean. 39 then the priest shall see, and look, the bright spots on the skin of his flesh appear white, it is eczema. It broke out in the skin of his flesh; he is clean.

40 And the man whose hair is fallen off his head, he is bald; yet is he clean.

40 Now anyone; if his head becomes bald, he is bald-headed; he is clean. 40 Now anyone; if his head becomes bald, he is bald-headed; he is clean.

41 And he who has his hair fallen off from the part of his head toward his face, he is forehead bald; yet is he clean.

41 And if his head should lose the hair in front, he has a frontal baldness; he is clean. 41 And if his head should lose the hair in front, he has a frontal baldness; he is clean.

42 And if there is in the bald head, or bald forehead, a white reddish sore; it is a leprosy sprung up in his bald head, or his bald forehead.

42 But if on his baldness or frontal baldness, there is a white infection that is turning red, it is a leprosy breaking out on his bald head or his frontal baldness. 42 But if on his baldness or frontal baldness, there is a white infection that is turning red, it is a leprosy breaking out on his bald head or his frontal baldness.

43 Then the priest shall look on it; and, behold, if the rising of the sore is white reddish in his bald head, or in his bald forehead, as the leprosy appears in the skin of the flesh;

43 And the priest shall look on him, and, behold, if the appearance of the infection be white or becoming red in his baldness or frontal baldness, as the appearance of leprosy in the skin of his flesh, 43 And the priest shall look on him, and, behold, if the appearance of the infection be white or becoming red in his baldness or frontal baldness, as the appearance of leprosy in the skin of his flesh,

44 he is a leprous man, he is unclean; the priest shall pronounce him utterly unclean; his plague is on his head.

44 he is a leprous man; by defilement, the priest shall pronounce him defiled, his infection is on his head. 44 he is a leprous man; by defilement, the priest shall pronounce him defiled, his infection is on his head.

45 And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be torn, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering on his upper lip, and shall cry, ‘Unclean, unclean.’

45 And the leprous person on whom is the infection; let his clothes be loosened and his head be uncovered, and let him put on something around his mouth, and he will have been called unclean. 45 And the leprous person on whom is the infection; let his clothes be loosened and his head be uncovered, and let him put on something around his mouth, and he will have been called unclean.

46 All the days in which the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean; he shall dwell alone; outside the camp shall his habitation be.

46 For all the days the infection is on him, he is unclean and shall remain unclean. He shall reside apart; he shall spend his life outside the camp. 46 For all the days the infection is on him, he is unclean and shall remain unclean. He shall reside apart; he shall spend his life outside the camp.

47 The garment also that the plague of leprosy is in, whether it be a woollen garment, or a linen garment;

47 As for clothing; if an infection of leprosy appears in it, in woolen clothing or clothing made of tow fibre, 47 As for clothing; if an infection of leprosy appears in it, in woolen clothing or clothing made of tow fibre,

48 Whether it be in the warp, or woof; of linen, or of woollen; whether in a skin, or in anything made of skin;

48 either in the warp or in the woof, or in the linen, or in the wool, or in a skin, or in any workmanship of skin, 48 either in the warp or in the woof, or in the linen, or in the wool, or in a skin, or in any workmanship of skin,

49 And if the plague be greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in anything of skin; it is a plague of leprosy, and shall be shown to the priest.

49 and the infection becomes greenish or reddish in the skin or in the garment, whether in warp or woof, or in any article made of skin, it is an infection of leprosy, and he shall show it to the priest. 49 and the infection becomes greenish or reddish in the skin or in the garment, whether in warp or woof, or in any article made of skin, it is an infection of leprosy, and he shall show it to the priest.

50 And the priest shall look on the plague, and quarantine the thing that has the plague seven days.

50 And the priest shall look at the infection, and the priest shall quarantine the infection for seven days. 50 And the priest shall look at the infection, and the priest shall quarantine the infection for seven days.

51 And he shall look on the plague on the seventh day; if the plague is spread in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in a skin, or in any work that is made of skin; the plague is a fretting leprosy; it is unclean.

51 And the priest shall look at the infection on the seventh day. And if the infection has spread in the clothing, whether in the warp or in the woof, or in the skin, in anything by which skin is made into a product, the infection is a lasting leprosy; it is unclean. 51 And the priest shall look at the infection on the seventh day. And if the infection has spread in the clothing, whether in the warp or in the woof, or in the skin, in anything by which skin is made into a product, the infection is a lasting leprosy; it is unclean.

52 He shall therefore burn that garment, whether warp or woof, in woollen or in linen, or anything of skin, in which the plague is; for it is a fretting leprosy; it shall be burned in the fire.

52 He shall burn the clothing, whether the warp or the woof, in wool things or in linen things, or any article of skin which the infection is in, for it is a lasting leprosy; it shall be burned with fire. 52 He shall burn the clothing, whether the warp or the woof, in wool things or in linen things, or any article of skin which the infection is in, for it is a lasting leprosy; it shall be burned with fire.

53 And if the priest shall look, and, behold, the plague isn’t spread in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in anything of skin;

53 Now if the priest looks, and the infection has not spread in the clothing, whether in the warp or in the woof or in any article of skin, 53 Now if the priest looks, and the infection has not spread in the clothing, whether in the warp or in the woof or in any article of skin,

54 Then the priest shall command that they wash the thing in which the plague is, and he shall quarantine it seven days more.

54 then the priest shall give orders, and he shall wash the article in which the disease appears, and the priest shall quarantine the infection for a second seven days. 54 then the priest shall give orders, and he shall wash the article in which the disease appears, and the priest shall quarantine the infection for a second seven days.

55 And the priest shall look on the plague, after that it is washed; and, behold, if the plague hasn’t changed its colour, and the plague isn’t spread; it is unclean; you shall burn it in the fire; it is fret inward, whether it be bare within or outside.

55 And the priest shall look at the infection after it has been washed, and this infection has not changed its appearance, and the infection is not spreading; it is something unclean; it shall be burned with fire, it has been firmly set in the garment, whether in the warp or in the woof. 55 And the priest shall look at the infection after it has been washed, and this infection has not changed its appearance, and the infection is not spreading; it is something unclean; it shall be burned with fire, it has been firmly set in the garment, whether in the warp or in the woof.

56 And if the priest looks, and, behold, the plague is somewhat dark after the washing of it; then he shall tear it out of the garment, or out of the skin, or out of the warp, or out of the woof.

56 And if the priest looks and the infection has become faint after it is washed, he shall tear it from the clothing, from the skin or from the warp or from the woof. 56 And if the priest looks and the infection has become faint after it is washed, he shall tear it out of the clothing, whether out of the warp or out of the woof or out of the skin.

57 And if it appears still in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in anything of skin; it is a spreading plague; you shall burn the thing in which the plague is with fire.

57 But if it still appears in the clothing, whether in the warp or in the woof or in any article of skin, it is leprosy that has broken out; that in which the infection occurs shall be burned with fire. 57 But if it still appears in the clothing, whether in the warp or in the woof or in any article of skin, it is leprosy that has broken out; that in which the infection occurs shall be burned with fire.

58 And the garment, either warp, or woof, or whatever thing of skin it be, which you shall wash, if the plague be departed from them, then it shall be washed the second time, and shall be clean.”

58 But the clothing, whether warp or woof, or any article of skin that shall be washed and the infection shall leave it, shall then be washed a second time, and it shall be clean. 58 But the clothing, whether warp or woof, or any article of skin that shall be washed and the infection shall leave it, shall then be washed a second time, and it shall be clean.

59 This is the law of the plague of leprosy in a garment of woollen or linen, either in the warp, or woof, or anything of skins, to pronounce it clean, or to pronounce it unclean.

59 This is the law for an infection of leprosy in a cloth of wool or tow fibre, either in warp or woof, or in any article of skin, to declare it clean or defiled. 59 This is the law for an infection of leprosy in a cloth of wool or tow fibre, either in warp or woof, or in any article of skin, to declare it clean or defiled.
