(LXX 73)

AlexandrinusVaticanus

Maschil of Asaph. 1 Oh God, why have you cast us off for ever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?

Ἱνατί ἀπώσω, Θεός, εἰς τέλος;
ὠργίσθη θυμός σου ἐπὶ πρόβατα νομῆς σου;
1 A Psalm of instruction for Asaph. Why have you rejected us, Oh God, for ever? Why is your wrath kindled against the sheep of your pasture? 1 A Psalm of instruction for Asaph. Why have you rejected us, Oh God, for ever? Why is your wrath kindled against the sheep of your pasture?

2 Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old; the rod of your inheritance, which you have redeemed; this mount Zion, in which you have dwelt.

2 Remember your congregation which you have purchased from the beginning; you did ransom the rod of your inheritance; this mount Sion in which you have dwelt. 2 Remember your congregation which you have purchased from the beginning; you did ransom the rod of your inheritance; this mount Sion in which you have dwelt.

3 Lift up your feet to the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy has done wickedly in the sanctuary.

3 Lift up your hands against their pride continually; because of all that the enemy has done wickedly in your holy places. 3 Lift up your hands against their pride continually; because of all that the enemy has done wickedly in your holy places.

4 Your enemies roar in the midst of your congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.

4 And they who hate you have boasted in the midst of your feast; they have set up their standards for signs, 4 And they who hate you have boasted in the midst of your feast; they have set up their standards for signs,

5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes on the thick trees.

5 ignorantly as it were in the entrance above; 5 ignorantly as it were in the entrance above;

6 But now they break down the carved work of it at once with axes and hammers.

6 they cut down its doors at once with axes as in a wood of trees; they have broken it down with hatchet and stone cutter. 6 they cut down its doors at once with axes as in a wood of trees; they have broken it down with hatchet and stone cutter.

7 They have cast fire into your sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of your name to the ground.

7 They have burned your sanctuary with fire to the ground; they have profaned the habitation of your name. 7 They have burned your sanctuary with fire to the ground; they have profaned the habitation of your name.

8 They said in their hearts, Let’s destroy them together; they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

8 They have said in their heart, even all their kindred together, Come, let’s abolish the feasts of the Lord from the earth. 8 They have said in their heart, even all their kindred together, Come, let’s abolish the feasts of the Lord from the earth.

9 We don’t see our signs; there is no more any prophet; neither is there among us any who knows how long.

9 We haven’t seen our signs; there is no longer a prophet; and God will not know us any more. 9 We haven’t seen our signs; there is no longer a prophet; and God will not know us any more.

10 Oh God, how long shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name for ever?

10 Ἕως πότε, θεός, ὀνειδιεῖ ἐχθρός, παροξυνεῖ ὑπεναντίος τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τέλος; 10 ἕως πότε, Θεός, ὀνειδιεῖ ἐχθρός, παροξυνεῖ ὑπεναντίος τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τέλος;
10 How long, Oh God, shall the enemy reproach? Shall the enemy provoke your name forever? 10 How long, Oh God, shall the enemy reproach? Shall the enemy provoke your name forever?

11 Why do you withdraw your hand, even your right hand? Pluck it out of your bosom.

11 ἵνα τί ἀποστρέφεις τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ τὴν δεξιάν σου ἐκ μέσου τοῦ κόλπου σου εἰς τέλος; 11 ἱνατί ἀποστρέφεις τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ τὴν δεξιάν σου ἐκ μέσου τοῦ κόλπου σου εἰς τέλος;
11 Why turn you away your hand, and your right hand from the midst of your bosom for ever? 11 Why turn you away your hand, and your right hand from the midst of your bosom for ever?

12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

12 But God is our King of old; he has wrought salvation in the midst of the earth. 12 But God is our King of old; he has wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.

13 You divided the sea by your strength; you broke the heads of the dragons in the waters.

13 You established the sea, in your might, you broke to pieces the heads of the dragons in the water. 13 You established the sea, in your might, you broke to pieces the heads of the dragons in the water.

14 You broke the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

14 You broke to pieces the heads of the dragon; you gave him for meat to the Ethiopian nations. 14 You broke to pieces the heads of the dragon; you gave him for meat to the Ethiopian nations.

15 You split the fountain and the flood; you dried up mighty rivers.

15 You split fountains and torrents; you dried up mighty rivers. 15 You split fountains and torrents; you dried up mighty rivers.

16 The day is yours, the night also is your; you have prepared the light and the sun.

16 The day is yours, and the night is yours; you have prepared the sun and the moon. 16 The day is yours, and the night is yours; you have prepared the sun and the moon.

17 You have set all the borders of the earth; you have made summer and winter.

17 You have made all the borders of the earth; you have made summer and spring. 17 You have made all the borders of the earth; you have made summer and spring.

18 Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, Oh Yahweh, and that the foolish people have blasphemed your name.

18 Remember this your creation; an enemy has reproached the Lord, and a foolish people has provoked your name. 18 Remember this your creation; an enemy has reproached the Lord, and a foolish people has provoked your name.

19 Oh don’t deliver the soul of your turtledove to the multitude of the wicked; don’t forget the congregation of your poor for ever.

19 Don’t deliver to the wild beasts a soul that gives praise to you; don’t forget forever the souls of your poor. 19 Don’t deliver to the wild beasts a soul that gives praise to you; don’t forget forever the souls of your poor.

20 Have respect to the covenant; for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

20 Look on your covenant; for the dark places of the earth are filled with the habitations of iniquity. 20 Look on your covenant; for the dark places of the earth are filled with the habitations of iniquity.

21 Oh don’t let the oppressed return ashamed; let the poor and needy praise your name.

21 don’t let the afflicted and shamed one be rejected; the poor and needy shall praise your name. 21 don’t let the afflicted and shamed one be rejected; the poor and needy shall praise your name.

22 Arise, Oh God, plead your own cause; remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily.

22 Arise, Oh God, plead your cause; remember your reproaches that come from the foolish one all the day. 22 Arise, Oh God, plead your cause; remember your reproaches that come from the foolish one all the day.

23 Don’t forget the voice of your enemies; the tumult of those who rise up against you increases continually.

23 Don’t forget the voice of your suppliants; let the pride of those who hate you continually ascend before you. 23 Don’t forget the voice of your suppliants; let the pride of those who hate you continually ascend before you.
