A Psalm of Asaph. 1 Truly God is good to Israēl, even to such as are of a clean heart.

מִזְמֹור לְאָסָף אַךְ טֹוב לְיִשְׂרָאֵל אֱלֹהִים לְבָרֵי לֵבָב׃

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well near slipped.

וַאֲנִי כִּמְעַט נָטוּי רַגְלָי כְּאַיִן שֻׁפְּכָה אֲשֻׁרָי׃

2 ἐμοῦ δὲ παρὰ μικρὸν ἐσαλεύθησαν οἱ πόδες, παρ’ ὀλίγον ἐξεχύθη τὰ διαβήματά μου.	2 ἐμοῦ δὲ παρὰ μικρὸν ἐσαλεύθησαν οἱ πόδες, παρ’ ὀλίγον ἐξεχύθη τὰ διαβήματά μου.

3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

כִּי ־ קִנֵּאתִי בַּהֹולְלִים שְׁלֹום רְשָׁעִים אֶרְאֶה׃

3 ὅτι ἐζήλωσα ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνόμοις εἰρήνην ἁμαρτωλῶν θεωρῶν,	3 ὅτι ἐζήλωσα ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνόμοις εἰρήνην ἁμαρτωλῶν θεωρῶν,

4 For there are no bands in their death; but their strength is firm.

כִּי אֵין חַרְצֻבֹּות לְמֹותָם וּבָרִיא אוּלָם׃

4 Ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀνάνευσις τῷ θανάτῳ αὐτῶν καὶ στερέωμα ἐν τῇ μάστιγι αὐτῶν·	4 ὅτι οὐκ ἐστιν ἀνάνευσις ἐν τῷ θανάτῳ αὐτῶν καὶ στερέωμα ἐν τῇ μάστιγι αὐτῶν·

5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

בַּעֲמַל אֱנֹושׁ אֵינֵמֹו וְעִם ־ אָדָם לֹא יְנֻגָּעוּ׃

6 Therefore pride encircles them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment.

לָכֵן עֲנָקַתְמֹו גַאֲוָה יַעֲטָף ־ שִׁית חָמָס לָמֹו׃

6 διὰ τοῦτο ἐκράτησεν αὐτοὺς ἡ ὑπερηφανία, περιεβάλοντο ἀδικίαν καὶ ἀσέβειαν αὐτῶν.	6 διὰ τοῦτο ἐκράτησεν αὐτοὺς ἡ ὑπερηφανία, περιεβάλοντο ἀδικίαν καὶ ἀσέβειαν ἑαυτῶν.

7 Their eyes stand out with fatness; they have more than heart could wish.

יָצָא מֵחֵלֶב עֵינֵמֹו עָבְרוּ מַשְׂכִּיֹּות לֵבָב׃

8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression; they speak loftily.

יָמִיקוּ וִידַבְּרוּ בְרָע עֹשֶׁק מִמָּרֹום יְדַבֵּרוּ׃

8 διενοήθησαν καὶ ἐλάλησαν ἐν πονηρίᾳ, ἀδικίαν εἰς τὸ ὕψος ἐλάλησαν·	8 διενοήθησαν καὶ ἐλάλησαν ἐν πονηρίᾳ, ἀδικίαν εἰς τὸ ὕψος ἐλάλησαν·

9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.

שַׁתּוּ בַשָּׁמַיִם פִּיהֶם וּלְשֹׁונָם תִּהֲלַךְ בָּאָרֶץ׃

10 Therefore his people return here; and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

לָכֵן יָשִׁיב עַמֹּו הֲלֹם וּמֵי מָלֵא יִמָּצוּ לָמֹו׃

10 διὰ τοῦτο ἐπιστρέψει ὁ λαός μου ἐνταῦθα, καὶ ἡμέραι πλήρεις εὑρεθήσονται αὐτοῖς.	10 διὰ τοῦτο ἐπιστρέψει ὁ λαός μου ἐνταῦθα, καὶ ἡμέραι πλήρεις εὑρεθήσονται ἐν αὐτοῖς.

11 And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the most High?

וְאָמְרוּ אֵיכָה יָדַע ־ אֵל וְיֵשׁ דֵּעָה בְעֶלְיֹון׃

11 καὶ εἶπαν, πῶς ἔγνω ὁ θεός, καὶ εἰ ἔστιν γνῶσις ἐν τῷ ὑψίστῳ;	11 καὶ εἶπαν· πῶς ἔγνω ὁ Θεός; καὶ εἰ ἔστι γνῶσις ἐν τῷ Ὑψίστῳ;

12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

הִנֵּה ־ אֵלֶּה רְשָׁעִים וְשַׁלְוֵי עֹולָם הִשְׂגּוּ ־ חָיִל׃

12 ἰδοὺ οὗτοι ἁμαρτωλοὶ καὶ εὐθηνοῦνται· εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατέσχον πλούτου.	12 ἰδοὺ οὗτοι οἱ ἁμαρτωλοὶ καὶ εὐθηνοῦντες· εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατέσχον πλούτου.

13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

אַךְ ־ רִיק זִכִּיתִי לְבָבִי וָאֶרְחַץ בְּנִקָּיֹון כַּפָּי׃

13 Καὶ εἶπα, ἄρα ματαίως ἐδικαίωσα τὴν καρδίαν μου καὶ ἐνιψάμην ἐν ἀθῴοις τὰς χεῖράς μου·	13 καὶ εἶπα· ἄρα ματαίως ἐδικαίωσα τὴν καρδίαν μου καὶ ἐνιψάμην ἐν ἀθῴοις τὰς χεῖράς μου·

14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

וָאֱהִי נָגוּעַ כָּל ־ הַיֹּום וְתֹוכַחְתִּי לַבְּקָרִים׃

14 καὶ ἐγενόμην μεμαστιγωμένος ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν, καὶ ὁ ἔλεγχός μου εἰς τὰς πρωίας.	14 καὶ ἐγενόμην μεμαστιγωμένος ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν, καὶ ὁ ἔλεγχός μου εἰς τὰς πρωΐας.

15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of your children.

אִם ־ אָמַרְתִּי אֲסַפְּרָה כְמֹו הִנֵּה דֹור בָּנֶיךָ בָגָדְתִּי׃

15 εἰ ἔλεγον διηγήσομαι οὕτως, ἰδοὺ τῇ γενεᾷ τῶν υἱῶν σου ἠσυνθέτηκα.	15 εἰ ἔλεγον· διηγήσομαι οὕτως, ἰδοὺ τῇ γενεᾷ τῶν υἱῶν σου ἠσυνθέτηκα.

16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

וָאֲחַשְּׁבָה לָדַעַת זֹאת עָמָל הִיא בְעֵינָי׃

16 καὶ ὑπέλαβον τοῦ γνῶναι τοῦτο· κόπος ἐστὶν ἐναντίον μου,	16 καὶ ὑπέλαβον τοῦ γνῶναι τοῦτο· κόπος ἐστὶν ἐνώπιόν μου,

17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.

עַד ־ אָבֹוא אֶל ־ מִקְדְּשֵׁי ־ אֵל אָבִינָה לְאַחֲרִיתָם׃

18 Surely you set them in slippery places; you casted them down into destruction.

אַךְ בַּחֲלָקֹות תָּשִׁית לָמֹו הִפַּלְתָּם לְמַשּׁוּאֹות׃

18 Πλὴν διὰ τὰς δολιότητας ἔθου αὐτοῖς, κατέβαλες αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ ἐπαρθῆναι.	18 πλὴν διὰ τὰς δολιότητας αὐτῶν ἔθου αὐτοῖς κακά, κατέβαλες αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ ἐπαρθῆναι.

19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

אֵיךְ הָיוּ לְשַׁמָּה כְרָגַע סָפוּ תַמּוּ מִן ־ בַּלָּהֹות׃

20 As a dream when one awakens; so, Oh Lord, when you awakened, you shall despise their image.

כַּחֲלֹום מֵהָקִיץ אֲדֹנָי בָּעִיר צַלְמָם תִּבְזֶה׃

20 ὡσεὶ ἐνύπνιον ἐξεγειρομένου, κύριε, ἐν τῇ πόλει σου τὴν εἰκόνα αὐτῶν ἐξουδενώσεις.	20 ὡσεὶ ἐνύπνιον ἐξεγειρομένου, Κύριε, ἐν τῇ πόλει σου τὴν εἰκόνα αὐτῶν ἐξουδενώσεις.

21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my insides.

כִּי יִתְחַמֵּץ לְבָבִי וְכִלְיֹותַי אֶשְׁתֹּונָן׃

21 Ὅτι ἐξεκαύθη ἡ καρδία μου, καὶ οἱ νεφροί μου ἠλλοιώθησαν,	21 ὅτι ἐξεκαύθη ἡ καρδία μου, καὶ οἱ νεφροί μου ἠλλοιώθησαν,

22 So I was foolish and ignorant; I was as a beast before you.

וַאֲנִי ־ בַעַר וְלֹא אֵדָע בְּהֵמֹות הָיִיתִי עִמָּךְ׃

22 καὶ ἐγὼ ἐξουδενωμένος καὶ οὐκ ἔγνων, κτηνώδης ἐγενόμην παρὰ σοί.	22 κἀγὼ ἐξουδενωμένος καὶ οὐκ ἔγνων, κτηνώδης ἐγενόμην παρά σοι.

23 Nevertheless I am continually with you; you have held me by my right hand.

וַאֲנִי תָמִיד עִמָּךְ אָחַזְתָּ בְּיַד ־ יְמִינִי׃

23 καὶ ἐγὼ διὰ παντὸς μετὰ σου, ἐκράτησας τῆς χειρὸς τῆς δεξιᾶς μου,	23 κἀγὼ διαπαντὸς μετὰ σοῦ, ἐκράτησας τῆς χειρὸς τῆς δεξιᾶς μου

24 You shall guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

בַּעֲצָתְךָ תַנְחֵנִי וְאַחַר כָּבֹוד תִּקָּחֵנִי׃

24 ἐν τῇ βουλῇ σου ὡδήγησάς με καὶ μετὰ δόξης προσελάβου με.	24 καὶ ἐν τῇ βουλῇ σου ὡδήγησάς με καὶ μετὰ δόξης προσελάβου με.

25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is none on earth that I desire beside you.

מִי ־ לִי בַשָּׁמָיִם וְעִמְּךָ לֹא ־ חָפַצְתִּי בָאָרֶץ׃

25 τί γάρ μοι ὑπάρχει ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ, καὶ παρὰ σου τί ἠθέλησα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς;	25 τί γάρ μοι ὑπάρχει ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ, καὶ παρὰ σοῦ τί ἠθέλησα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς;

26 My flesh and my heart fails; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

כָּלָה שְׁאֵרִי וּלְבָבִי צוּר ־ לְבָבִי וְחֶלְקִי אֱלֹהִים לְעֹולָם׃

27 For, lo, they who are far from you shall perish; you have destroyed all those who commit prostitution from you.

כִּי ־ הִנֵּה רְחֵקֶיךָ יֹאבֵדוּ הִצְמַתָּה כָּל ־ זֹונֶה מִמֶּךָּ׃

27 ὅτι ἰδοὺ οἱ μακρύνοντες ἑαυτοὺς ἀπὸ σου ἀπολοῦνται, ἐξωλέθρευσας πάντα τὸν πορνεύοντα ἀπὸ σου.	27 ὅτι ἰδοὺ οἱ μακρύνοντες ἑαυτοὺς ἀπὸ σοῦ ἀπολοῦνται, ἐξωλόθρευσας πάντα τὸν πορνεύοντα ἀπὸ σοῦ.

28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in Adonai Yahweh, that I may declare all your works.

וַאֲנִי קִרֲבַת אֱלֹהִים לִי ־ טֹוב שַׁתִּי בַּאדֹנָי יְהֹוִה מַחְסִי לְסַפֵּר כָּל ־ מַלְאֲכֹותֶיךָ׃

28 ἐμοὶ δὲ τὸ προσκολλᾶσθαι τῷ θεῷ ἀγαθόν ἐστιν, τίθεσθαι ἐν τῷ κυρίῳ τὴν ἐλπίδα μου τοῦ ἐξαγγεῖλαι πάσας τὰς αἰνέσεις σου ἐν ταῖς πύλαις τῆς θυγατρὸς Σιών.	28 ἐμοὶ δὲ τὸ προσκολλᾶσθαι τῷ Θεῷ ἀγαθόν ἔστι, τίθεσθαι ἐν τῷ Κυρίῳ τὴν ἐλπίδα μου τοῦ ἐξαγγεῖλαί με πάσας τὰς αἰνέσεις σου ἐν ταῖς πύλαις τῆς θυγατρὸς Σιών.
