The Law of Guilt Offerings
1 “ ‘And if a soul sin, and hears the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he has seen or known of it; if he doesn’t utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.
1 Now if a soul sins and hears a noise of an oath and he is a witness or has seen it or knows of it, if he doesn’t report it, he will assume the sin. | 1 Now if a soul sins and hears a noise of an oath and he is a witness or has seen it or knows of it, if he doesn’t report it, he will assume the sin. |
2 Or if a soul touches any unclean thing, whether it is a carcass of an unclean beast, or a carcass of unclean cattle, or the carcass of unclean creeping things, and if it is hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.
2 Or a soul who touches any unclean thing, whether a carcass or the kill of an unclean animal or unclean carcasses or of the abominations or the unclean carcasses of cattle, | 2 Or that soul who touches any unclean thing, whether a carcass or the kill of an unclean animal or unclean carcasses of the abominations or the unclean carcasses of cattle, |
3 Or if he touches the uncleanness of man, whatever uncleanness it is that a man shall be defiled in addition, and it is hidden from him; when he knows of it, then he shall be guilty.
3 or touches some uncleanness of a man, from any of his uncleanness in which he is defiled by touching, and it escaped his notice, but later on comes to know it, and should be wrong, | 3 or touches some uncleanness of a man, from any of his uncleanness in which he is defiled by touching, and it escaped his notice, but later on comes to know it, and should be wrong, |
4 Or if a soul swears, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatever it is that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it is hidden from him; when he knows of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.
4 or a soul who swears, determining with his lips to do evil or to do good, in any way that the man may speak forcefully by an oath, and if it escapes the notice of his eyes and if he comes to know it and should sin in any one of these, | 4 or a soul who swears, determining with his lips to do evil or to do good, in any way that the man may speak forcefully by an oath, and if it escapes the notice of his eyes and if he comes to know it and should sin in any one of these, |
5 And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he has sinned in that thing.
5 then he shall confess the sin concerning the things in which he has sinned. | 5 then he shall confess the sin concerning the things in which he has sinned. |
6 And he shall bring his trespass offering to Yahweh for his sin which he has sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.
6 And for whatever he has done amiss, for the sin that he has sinned, he shall bring to the Lord a female from the sheep–a lamb, or a young female goat for sin. And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin that he has sinned, and the sin will be forgiven him. | 6 And for whatever he has done amiss, for the sin that he has sinned, he shall bring to the Lord a female from the sheep–a lamb, or a young female goat for sin. And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin that he has sinned, and the sin will be forgiven him. |
7 And if he isn’t able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he has committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, to Yahweh; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.
7 But if his hand doesn’t have the strength sufficient for a sheep, he shall bring for his sin which he has sinned two turtledoves or two young doves to the Lord, one for sin and one for a whole burnt offering. | 7 But if his hand doesn’t have the strength sufficient for a sheep, he shall bring for his sin which he has sinned two turtledoves or two young doves to the Lord, one for sin and one for a whole burnt offering. |
8 And he shall bring them to the priest, who shall offer what is for the sin offering first, and wring off his head from his neck, but shall not divide it asunder.
8 And he shall carry them to the priest, and the priest shall bring the one for sin first. And the priest shall snip off its head at the neck, and he shall not divide it. | 8 And he shall carry them to the priest, and the priest shall bring the one for sin first. And the priest shall snip off its head at the neck, and he shall not divide it. |
9 And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar; it is a sin offering.
9 And he shall sprinkle some blood of the one for sin against the wall of the altar, but what remains of the blood he shall squeeze out against the base of the altar, for it is for sin. [1] | 9 And he shall sprinkle some blood of the one for sin against the wall of the altar, but what remains of the blood he shall squeeze out against the base of the altar, for it is for sin. [1] |
10 And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner; and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he has sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.

11 But if he isn’t able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he who sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil on it, neither shall he put any frankincense on it; for it is a sin offering.
11 But if his hand doesn’t find a pair of turtledoves or two young doves, then he shall bring his gift for that in which he sinned; one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour for sin. 12 Then he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it, even a memorial of it, and burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire to Yahweh; it is a sin offering.
