Nehemiah

1 [M 3:33] But it happened, that when Sanballat heard that we built the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.

1 καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤκουσεν Σαναβαλλὰτ ὅτι ἡμεῖς οἰκοδομοῦμεν τὸ τεῖχος καὶ πονηρὸν ἦν αὐτῷ, καὶ ὠργίσθη ἐπὶ πολὺ καὶ ἐξεγέλα ἐπὶ τοῖς ἰουδαίοις.	1 Καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤκουσε Σαναβαλλὰτ ὅτι ἡμεῖς οἰκοδομοῦμεν τὸ τεῖχος, καὶ πονηρὸν αὐτῷ ἐφάνη, καὶ ὠργίσθη ἐπὶ πολὺ καὶ ἐξεγέλα ἐπὶ τοῖς Ἰουδαῖον.

2 [M 3:34] And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they make an end in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?

3 [M 3:35] Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even what they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.

4 [M 3:36] Hear, Oh our God; for we are despised; and turn their reproach on their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity.

5 [M 3:37] And don’t cover their iniquity, and don’t let their sin be blotted out from before you; for they have provoked you to anger before the builders.

7 [M 4:1] But it happened, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,

8 [M 4:2] And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.

9 [M 4:3] Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

10 [M 4:4] And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.

11 [M 4:5] And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.

12 [M 4:6] And it happened, that when the Jews who dwelt by them came, they said to us ten times, From all places where you shall return to us they will be on you.

13 [M 4:7] Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.

13 So I stationed men in the lowest part of the place behind the wall in the sheltered places. 14 [M 4:8] And I looked, and rose up, and said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Don’t be afraid of them: remember the Lord, who is great and terrible, and fight for your brothers, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

14 And I looked and arose; and said to the men of influence, to the captains, and to the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of their presence. 15 [M 4:9] And it happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and God had brought their counsel to nothing, that we returned all of us to the wall, everyone to his work.

16 [M 4:10] And it happened from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.

17 [M 4:11] They who built on the wall, and they who carried burdens, with those who loaded, everyone with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.

18 [M 4:12] For the builders, everyone had his sword girded by his side, and so built. And he who sounded the trumpet was by me.

19 [M 4:13] And I said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated on the wall, one far from another.

19 καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τοὺς ἐντίμους καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ πρὸς τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ λαοῦ τὸ ἔργον πλατὺ καὶ πολύ, καὶ ἡμεῖς σκορπιζόμεθα ἐπὶ τοῦ τείχους μακρὰν ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ·	19 καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τοὺς ἐντίμους καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ πρὸς τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ λαοῦ· τὸ ἔργον πλατὺ καὶ πολύ, καὶ ἡμεῖς σκορπιζόμεθα ἐπὶ τοῦ τείχους μακρὰν ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ.

20 [M 4:14] In what place therefore you hear the sound of the trumpet, resort to that place to us: our God shall fight for us.

21 [M 4:15] So we laboured in the work; and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.

22 [M 4:16] Likewise at the same time said I to the people, Let everyone with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.

23 [M 4:17] So neither I, nor my brothers, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us put off our clothes, except that everyone put them off for washing.
