Genesis

1 Then Jacōb went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

1 καὶ ἐξάρας Ἰακὼβ τοὺς πόδας ἐπορεύθη εἰς γῆν ἀνατολῶν πρὸς Λαβὰν τὸν υἱὸν Βαθουὴλ τοῦ Σύρου ἀδελφὸν δὲ Ῥεβέκκας μητρὸς Ἰακὼβ καὶ Ἡσαῦ.	1 Καὶ ἐξάρας Ἰακὼβ τοὺς πόδας ἐπορεύθης εἰς γῆν ἀνατολῶν πρὸς Λάβαν τὸν υἱὸν Βαθουὴλ τοῦ Σύρου, ἀδελφὸν δὲ Ῥεβέκκας μητρὸς Ἰακὼβ καὶ Ἡσαῦ.

2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks; and a great stone was on the well’s mouth.

2 καὶ ὁρᾷ καὶ ἰδοὺ φρέαρ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ, ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ τρία ποίμνια προβάτων ἀναπαυόμενα ἐπ’ αὐτοῦ· ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ φρέατος ἐκείνου ἐπότιζον τὰ ποίμνια, λίθος δὲ ἦν μέγας ἐπὶ τῷ στόματι τοῦ φρέατος,	2 καὶ ὁρᾷ καὶ ἰδοὺ φρέαρ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ, ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ τρία ποίμνια προβάτων ἀναπαυόμενα ἐπ’ αὐτοῦ· ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ φρέατος ἐκείνου ἐπότιζον τὰ ποίμνια, λίθος δὲ ἦν μέγας ἐπὶ τῷ στόματι τοῦ φρέατος,

3 καὶ συνήγοντο ἐκεῖ πάντα τὰ ποίμνια καὶ ἀπεκύλιον τὸν λίθον ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος τοῦ φρέατος καὶ ἐπότιζον τὰ πρόβατα καὶ ἀπεκαθίστων τὸν λίθον ἐπὶ τὸ στόμα τοῦ φρέατος εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ.	3 καὶ συνήγοντο ἐκεῖ πάντα τὰ ποίμνια καὶ ἀπεκύλιον τὸν λίθον ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος τοῦ φρέατος καὶ ἐπότιζον τὰ πρόβατα καὶ ἀπεκαθίστων τὸν λίθον ἐπὶ τὸ στόμα τοῦ φρέατος εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ.

4 And Jacōb said to them, “My brothers, where are you from?” And they said, “We are from Haran.”

5 And he said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?” And they said, “We know him.”

6 And he said to them, “Is he well?” And they said, “He is well. And look, Rhachēl his daughter was coming with the sheep.”	6 And he said to them, “Is he well?” And they said, “He is well. And look, Rhachēl his daughter was coming with the sheep.”

7 And he said, “Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water the sheep, and go and feed them.”

7 And Jacōb said, “It is still daytime, it is not yet time for the flocks to be gathered together. 9 And while he yet spoke with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep; for she kept them.

10 And it happened, when Jacōb saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacōb went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

13 And it happened, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacōb his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

14 And Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he abode with him the space of a month.

15 And Laban said to Jacōb, “Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?”

16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

18 And Jacōb loved Rachel; and said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.

20 And Jacōb served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed to him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

24 And Laban gave to his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for a handmaid.

25 And it happened, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you beguiled me?”

25 Then morning came, and look! it was Leia; and Jacōb said to Laban, “What is this that you have done to me? Didn’t I serve you for Rhachēl? 26 And Laban said, “It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

32 καὶ συνέλαβεν Λεία καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν τῷ Ἰακώβ· ἐκάλεσεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ῥουβὴν λέγουσα, διότι εἶδέν μου κύριος τὴν ταπείνωσιν· νῦν με ἀγαπήσει ὁ ἀνήρ μου.	32 καὶ συνέλαβε Λεία καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν τῷ Ἰακώβ· ἐκάλεσε δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ῥουβὴν λέγουσα· διότι εἶδέ μου Κύριος τὴν ταπείνωσιν, καὶ ἔδωκέ μοι υἱόν· νῦν οὖν ἀγαπήσει με ὁ ἀνήρ μου.

33 καὶ συνέλαβεν πάλιν Λεία καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν δεύτερον τῷ Ἰακὼβ καὶ εἶπεν, ὅτι ἤκουσεν κύριος ὅτι μισοῦμαι καὶ προσέδωκέν μοι καὶ τοῦτον· ἐκάλεσεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Συμεών.	33 καὶ συνέλαβε πάλιν καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν δεύτερον τῷ Ἰακὼβ καὶ εἶπε· ὅτι ἤκουσε Κύριος ὅτι μισοῦμαι, καὶ προσέδωκέ μοι καὶ τοῦτον· ἐκάλεσε δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Συμεών·

34 καὶ συνέλαβεν ἔτι καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν καὶ εἶπεν, ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ πρὸς ἐμοῦ ἔσται ὁ ἀνήρ μου, ἔτεκον γὰρ αὐτῷ τρεῖς υἱούς· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Λευί.	34 καὶ συνέλαβεν ἔτι καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν καὶ εἶπε· ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ πρὸς ἐμοῦ ἔσται ὁ ἀνήρ μου, τέτοκα γὰρ αὐτῷ τρεῖς υἱούς· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσε τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Λευεί.

35 καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτι ἔτεκεν υἱὸν καὶ εἶπεν, νῦν ἔτι τοῦτο ἐξομολογήσομαι κυρίῳ· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰούδα. καὶ ἔστη τοῦ τίκτειν.	35 καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτι ἔτεκεν υἱὸν καὶ εἶπε· νῦν ἔτι τοῦτο ἐξομολογήσομαι τῷ Κυρίῳ· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσε τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰούδαν. καὶ ἔστη τοῦ τίκτειν.
