Jacōb’s Dream

10 And Jacōb went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.

10 And Jacōb went out from the well of the oath, and departed into Charran. 10 And Jacōb went out from the well of the oath, and departed into Charran.

11 And he lighted on a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

11 And he arrived at a place and lay down there, for the sun had gone down; and he took from the stones of the place, and put it at his head, and lay down in that place, 11 And he arrived at a place and lay down there, for the sun had gone down; and he took from the stones of the place, and put it at his head, and lay down in that place,

12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

12 and dreamed, and look! a ladder secure on the ground, whose top reached to the sky, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 12 and dreamed, and look! a ladder secure on the ground, whose top reached to the sky, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

13 And, behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh Elohim of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: the land on which you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed;

13 And the Lord had been leaning on it, and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; don’t fear, the land on which you lie, I will give it to you, and to your offspring. 13 And the Lord had been leaning on it, and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; don’t fear, the land on which you lie, I will give it to you, and to your offspring.

14 And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south; and in you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

14 And your offspring shall be like the sand of the ground; and it shall widen out to the sea, and to the southwest, and to the north, and to the east; and all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed in you and your offspring. 14 And your offspring shall be like the sand of the ground; and it shall widen out to the sea, and to the southwest, and to the north, and to the east; and all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed in you and your offspring.

15 And, behold, I am with you, and will keep you in all places to which you go, and will bring you again into this land; for I won’t leave you, until I have done what I have spoken to you of.”

15 And look! I am with you to keep guarding you in all the way in which you shall go; and I will bring you back to this land; because I won’t abandon you, until I have done all the things that I have spoken to you.” 15 And look! I am with you to keep guarding you in all the way in which you shall go; and I will bring you back to this land; because I won’t abandon you, until I have done all the things that I have spoken to you.”

16 And Jacōb awoke out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place; and I didn’t know it.”

16 And Jacōb awoke from his sleep, and said, “The Lord is in this place, and I didn’t know it.” 16 And Jacōb awoke from his sleep, and said, “The Lord is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”

17 And he was afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

17 And he was afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” 17 And he was afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

18 And Jacōb rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.

18 And in the morning, Jacōb rose up and took the stone which he had laid there by his head, and he set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on its top. 18 And in the morning, Jacōb rose up and took the stone which he had laid there by his head, and he set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on its top.

19 And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

19 And Jacōb called the name of that place, the House of God; and the name of the city before was Oulamlous. 19 And he called the name of that place, the House of God; and the name of the city before was Oulamlouz.

20 And Jacōb vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

20 And Jacōb vowed a vow, saying, “If the Lord God will be with me, and protect me on this way, on which I am going, and give me bread to eat, and clothing to wear, 20 And Jacōb vowed a vow, saying, “If the Lord God will be with me, and protect me on this way, on which I am going, and give me bread to eat, and clothing to wear,

21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall Yahweh be my God.

21 and return me in safety to my father’s home, then the Lord shall be God to me. 21 and return me in safety to my father’s home, then the Lord shall be God to me.

22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house; and of all that you shall give me I will surely give the tenth to you.”

22 And this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be to me a house of God; and of all that you should give me, I will tithe a tithe of them for you.” 22 And this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be to me a house of God; and of all that you should give me, I will tithe a tithe of them for you.”
