Covenant of the Rainbow

1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth.

1 And God blessed Nōe and his sons, and said to them, “Increase and multiply, and fill the land and subdue it.” 1 And God blessed Nōe and his sons, and said to them, “Increase and multiply, and fill the land and subdue it.”

2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, and on every fowl of the air, on all that moves on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

2 And the dread and the fear of you will be on all the wild beasts of the land, on all the birds of the sky, and on all things moving on the land, and on all the fish of the sea. I have given them under your hand. 2 And the dread and the fear of you will be on all the wild beasts of the land, on all the birds of the sky, and on all things moving on the land, and on all the fish of the sea. I have given them under your hand.

3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

3 And every creeping animal which is living will be to you for food; just as the vegetable plants, I have given you all things. 3 And every creeping animal which is living will be to you for food; just as the vegetable plants, I have given you all things.

4 But flesh with the life of it, which is the blood of it, you shall not eat.

4 But don’t eat meat with blood of life. 4 But don’t eat meat with blood of life.

5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.

5 For I will search for your blood of your lives; I will search for it from the hand of all the wild beasts; and I will search for the blood of the life of a man from the hand of a brother man 5 For I will search for your blood of your lives from the hand of all the wild beasts; and I will search for the blood of a man from the hand of a brother man

6 Whoso sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made he man.

6 As for the one shedding of a man’s blood, in exchange his blood will be shed because I made man in the image of God. 6 As for the one shedding of a man’s blood, in exchange his blood will be shed because I made man in the image of God.

7 And you, be fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.”

7 But you, increase and multiply, and fill the land, and multiply in it. 7 But you, increase and multiply, and fill the land, and subdue it.

8 And God spoke to Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

8 And God spoke to Nōe, and to his sons with him, saying, 8 And God spoke to Nōe, and to his sons with him, saying,

9 “And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

9 Look! I establish my covenant with you, and with your offspring after you, 9 And look! I establish my covenant with you, and with your offspring after you,

10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.

10 and with every living creature with you, from birds and from cattle, and with all the wild beasts of the land, as many as with you, from all that come out of the ark. 10 and with every living creature with you, from birds and from cattle, and with all the wild beasts of the land, as many as are with you, from all that come out of the ark.

11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.”

11 And I will establish my covenant with you and all flesh won’t die any more die by the water of the flood, and there won’t be a flood of water anymore to destroy all the land. 11 And I will establish my covenant with you and all flesh won’t die any more die by the water of the flood, and there won’t be a flood of water anymore to destroy all the land.

12 And God said, “This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations.

12 And the Lord God said to Nōe, “This is the sign of the covenant which I give between me and you, and between every living soul which is with you for eternal generations. 12 And the Lord God said to Nōe, “This is the sign of the covenant which I give between me and you, and between every living soul which is with you for eternal generations.

13 I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

13 I put my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a covenant sign between me and the land. 13 I put my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a covenant sign between me and the land.

14 And it will happen, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud.

14 And it shall be when I gather clouds on the land, that my bow will appear in the cloud. 14 And it shall be when I gather clouds on the land, that my bow will appear in the cloud.

15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you, and between every living soul in all flesh, and there shall no longer be water for a flood, so as to wipe out all flesh. 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you, and between every living soul in all flesh, and there shall no longer be water for a flood, so as to wipe out all flesh.

16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look on it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

16 And my bow will be in the cloud, and I will look to remember the everlasting covenant between me and every living soul in all flesh, which is on the land.” 16 And my bow will be in the cloud, and I will look to remember the everlasting covenant between me and the land and between every living soul in all flesh, which is on the land.”

17 And God said to Noah, “This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

17 And God said to Nōe, “This is the sign of the covenant, which I have made between me and all flesh, which is on the land.” 17 And God said to Nōe, “This is the sign of the covenant, which I have made between me and all flesh, which is on the land.”

18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth; and Ham is the father of Canaan.

18 Now the sons of Nōe who came out of the ark, were Sēm, Cham, Japheth. And Cham was father of Chanaan. 18 Now the sons of Nōe who came out of the ark, were Sēm, Cham, Japheth. And Cham was father of Chanaan.

19 These are the three sons of Noah; and of them was the whole earth overspread.

19 These three are the sons of Nōe, from these they scattered over all the land. 19 These three are the sons of Nōe, from these they scattered over all the land.

20 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard.

20 And Nōe was the first man as a farmer of land, and he planted a vineyard. 20 And Nōe was the first man as a farmer of land, and he planted a vineyard.

21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunk; and he was uncovered within his tent.

21 And he drank from the wine, and was drunk, and was naked in his home. 21 And he drank from the wine, and was drunk, and was naked in his home.

22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

22 And Cham the father of Chanaan saw the nakedness of his father, and going out he told his two brothers outside. 22 And Cham the father of Chanaan saw the nakedness of his father, and going out he told his two brothers outside.

23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

23 And Sēm and Japheth having taken a garment, put it on both their backs and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their face was backward, and they didn’t see the nakedness of their father. 23 And Sēm and Japheth having taken a garment, put it on both their backs and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their face was backward, and they didn’t see the nakedness of their father.

24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him.

24 And Nōe sobered up from the wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him. 24 And Nōe sobered up from the wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him.

25 And he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants he shall be to his brothers.”

25 And he said, “Cursed is Chanaan, a servant, he will be a domestic to his brothers.” 25 And he said, “Cursed is Chanaan, a servant, he will be a domestic to his brothers.”

26 And he said, “Blessed be Yahweh Elohim of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

26 And he said, “Blessed is the Lord God of Sēm, and Chanaan shall be his servant. 26 And he said, “Blessed is the Lord God of Sēm, and Chanaan shall be his household servant.

27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.”

27 May God make room for Japheth, and let him dwell in the houses of Sēm, and let Chanaan be their servant.” 27 May God make room for Japheth, and let him dwell in the houses of Sēm, and let Chanaan be his servant.”

28 And Noah lived after the flood 350 years.

28 And after the flood, Nōe lived 350 years. 28 And after the flood, Nōe lived 350 years.

29 And all the days of Noah were 950 years; and he died.

29 And all the days of Nōe were 950 years, and he died. 29 And all the days of Nōe were 950 years, and he died.
