A.1  Many verses in the LXX are not found in the Hebrew or English canon. These additional verses are numbered with a letter as well as a number, such as A.1, A.2, etc.

A.9 and cried to God; and from their cry as though from a small stream, there came a great river, much water.	A.9 And we cried out to the Lord because of the sound of their cry. And there came from a small spring abundant water, a great river.

A.12 And Mardochaios rested quiet in the palace with Gabatha and Tharra the king’s two chamberlains, eunuchs who guarded the palace.	A.12 on which Mardochaios napped in the courtyard of the king with Astaos and Thedeutes, the two eunuchs of the king.

A.13 ἤκουσέν τε αὐτῶν τοὺς λογισμοὺς καὶ τὰς μερίμνας αὐτῶν ἐξηρεύνησεν καὶ ἔμαθεν ὅτι ἑτοιμάζουσιν τὰς χεῖρας ἐπιβαλεῖν Ἀρταξέρξῃ τῷ βασιλεῖ, καὶ ὑπέδειξεν τῷ βασιλεῖ περὶ αὐτῶν·	A.13 καὶ ἤκουσε τοὺς λόγους αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς διαβολὰς αὐτῶν, ὡς ἐξηγοῦντο τοῦ ἐπιθέσθαι Ἀσσυήρῳ τῷ βασιλεῖ τοῦ ἀνελεῖν αὐτόν. εὖ δὲ φρονήσας ὁ Μαρδοχαῖος ἀπήγγειλε περὶ αὐτῶν.
A.13 And he heard their reasoning and searched out their plans, and learned that they were preparing to lay hands on king Artaxerxes; and he informed the king concerning them.	A.13 And he overheard their words and their schemes as they were plotting to assault Assyeros the king to kill him. So after thinking about it, Mardochaios reported about them.

A.14 καὶ ἐξήτασεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοὺς δύο εὐνούχους, καὶ ὁμολογήσαντες ἀπήχθησαν.	A.14 καὶ ἤτασεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοὺς δύο εὐνούχους καὶ εὗρε τοὺς λόγους Μαρδοχαίου, καὶ ὁμολογήσαντες οἱ εὐνοῦχοι ἀπήχθησαν.
A.14 And the king examined the two chamberlains, and they confessed, and were executed.	A.14 Then the king questioned the two eunuchs and found Mardochaios’ words true, and when the eunuchs confessed, they were led away.

A.15 καὶ ἔγραψεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοὺς λόγους τούτους εἰς μνημόσυνον, καὶ Μαρδοχαῖος ἔγραψεν περὶ τῶν λόγων τούτων·	A.15 καὶ ἔγραψεν Ἀσσυῆρος ὁ βασιλεὺς περὶ τῶν λόγων τούτων, καὶ ἐγράφη Μαρδοχαῖος ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ βασιλέως περὶ τοῦ μνημονεύειν τῶν λόγων τούτων.
A.15 And the king wrote these things for a memorial: also Mardochaios wrote concerning these matters.	A.15 So Assyeros the king wrote about these things, and Mardochaios was written about in the book of the king so that these things would be remembered.

A.16 καὶ ἐπέταξεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Μαρδοχαίῳ θεραπεύειν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ δόματα περὶ τούτων.	A.16 καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς περὶ τοῦ Μαρδοχαίου θεραπεύειν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ πᾶσαν θύραν ἐπιφανῶς τηρεῖν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ περὶ τούτων
A.16 And the king commanded Mardochaios to attend in the palace, and gave gifts for this service.	A.16 And the king commanded concerning Mardochaios that he serve in the court of the king and conspicuously guard every door. And he assigned to him for these things

A.17 καὶ ἦν Ἀμὰν Ἁμαδάθου Βουγαῖος ἔνδοξος ἐνώπιον τοῦ βασιλέως· καὶ ἐζήτησεν κακοποιῆσαι τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ τῶν δύο εὐνούχων τοῦ βασιλέως.	A.17 Ἁμὰν Ἁμαδάθου Μακεδόνα κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως. καὶ ἐζήτει ὁ Ἁμὰν κακοποιῆσαι τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ τοῦ λελαληκέναι αὐτὸν τῷ βασιλεῖ περὶ τῶν εὐνούχων, διότι ἀνῃρέθησαν.
A.17 And Aman the son of Hamadathes the Bugean was honourable in the sight of the king, and he endeavored to hurt Mardochaios and his people, because of the two chamberlains of the king.	A.17 Haman son of Hamadathos, a Macedonian in the presence of the king. And Haman was seeking to harm Mardochaios and all his people because of what he had said to the king concerning the eunuchs, because they had been executed.

1:1  Now it happened in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even to Ethiopia, over 127 provinces:)

1:1 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις Ἀρταξέρξου – οὗτος ὁ Ἀρταξέρξης ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰνδικῆς ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτὰ χωρῶν ἐκράτησεν –	1:1 Καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους ἐν ἡμέραις Ἀσσυήρου τοῦ βασιλέως τοῦ μεγάλου, ὑπετάγησαν αὐτῷ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰνδικῆς ἕως τῆς Αἰθιοπίας ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτὰ χῶραι.
1:1 And it happened after these things in the days of Artaxerxes, –(this Artaxerxes ruled over 127 provinces from India) –	1:1 And it happened after these events in the days of Assyeros the great king, 127 lands from India to Ethiopia were subjected to him.

1:2  That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace,

1:2 ἐν αὐταῖς ταῖς ἡμέραις, ὅτε ἐθρονίσθη ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀρταξέρξης ἐν Σούσοις τῇ πόλει,	1:2 ἐν τῷ καθῆσθαι Ἀσσυῆρον ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ,
1:2 in those days, when king Artaxerxes was on the throne in the city of Susa,	1:2 While Assyeros was sitting on the throne of his kingdom,

1:3  In the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him.

1:3 ἐν τῷ τρίτῳ ἔτει βασιλεύοντος αὐτοῦ δοχὴν ἐποίησεν τοῖς φίλοις καὶ τοῖς λοιποῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ τοῖς Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων ἐνδόξοις καὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσιν τῶν σατραπῶν.	1:3 καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πότον τοῖς ἄρχουσι τῆς αὐλῆς Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων, καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν χωρῶν κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ,
1:3 in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to his friends, and the other nations, and to the nobles of the Persians and Medes, and the chief of the satraps.	1:3 then the king gave a wine party for the rulers of the court of the Persians and Medes and the rulers of the lands before him

1:4  When he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even 100 and80 days.

1:4 καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα μετὰ τὸ δεῖξαι αὐτοῖς τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν δόξαν τῆς εὐφροσύνης τοῦ πλούτου αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ ἡμέρας ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα,	1:4 εἰς τὸ ἐπιδειχθῆναι τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς δόξης τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τὴν τιμὴν τῆς καυχήσεως αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ ὀγδοήκοντα καὶ ἑκατὸν ἡμέρας,
1:4 And after this, after he had shown to them the wealth of his kingdom, and the abundant glory of his wealth during 180 days,	1:4 that the wealth of the king’s glory and the honour of which he boasted be put on display for 180 days,

1:5  And when these days were expired, the king made a feast to all the people who were present in Shushan the palace, both to great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace;

1:5 ὅτε δὲ ἀνεπληρώθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι τοῦ γάμου, ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πότον τοῖς ἔθνεσιν τοῖς εὑρεθεῖσιν εἰς τὴν πόλιν ἐπὶ ἡμέρας ἓξ ἐν αὐλῇ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως	1:5 ἕως ἀνεπληρώθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι ἃς ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πᾶσι τοῖς εὑρεθεῖσιν ἐν Σούσοις τῇ πόλει ἀπὸ μεγάλου ἕως μικροῦ, πότον ἐν ἡμέραις ἑπτὰ ἔνδον ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ τοῦ βασιλέως, ἄγων τὰ σωτήρια αὐτοῦ.
1:5 when, I say, the days of the marriage feast were completed, the king made a banquet to the nations who were present in the city six days, in the court of the king’s house,	1:5 until the days were completed, during which the king gave a wine party for all those found in the city of Susa—from great to small—for seven days inside the king’s courtyard, celebrating his deliverance.

1:6  Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, on a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.

1:6 κεκοσμημένῃ βυσσίνοις καὶ καρπασίνοις τεταμένοις ἐπὶ σχοινίοις βυσσίνοις καὶ πορφυροῖς ἐπὶ κύβοις χρυσοῖς· καὶ ἀργυροῖς ἐπὶ στύλοις Παρίνοις καὶ λιθίνοις· κλῖναι χρυσαῖ καὶ ἀργυραῖ ἐπὶ λιθοστρώτου σμαραγδίτου λίθου καὶ πιννίνου καὶ Παρίνου λίθου καὶ στρωμναὶ διαφανεῖς ποικίλως διηνθισμέναι, κύκλῳ ῥόδα πεπασμένα·	1:6 ἦν δὲ ἐξεστρωμένα βύσσινα καὶ καρπάσινα καὶ ὑακίνθινα καὶ κόκκινα ἐμπεπλεγμένα ἐν ἄνθεσιν, καὶ σκηνὴ τεταμένη ἐν σχοινίοις βυσσίνοις καὶ πορφυροῖς ἐπὶ κύβοις ἀργυροῖς καὶ στύλοις Παρίνοις καὶ περιχρύσοις, καὶ κλῖναι χρυσαῖ ἐπὶ λιθόστρωτον σμαράγδου, καὶ κύκλῳ ῥόδα,
1:6 which was adorned with hangings of fine linen and flax on cords of fine linen and purple, fastened to golden and silver studs, on pillars of Parian marble and stone: there were golden and silver couches on a pavement of emerald stone, and of pearl, and of Parian stone, and open-worked coverings variously flowered, having roses worked round about;	1:6 And there were tapestries of linen and cotton with lavender and scarlet embroidered in flowers and an awning hung by linen and purple cords on silver blocks and pillars of marble and gilded with gold. And there were couches of gold on an emerald pavement and roses round about.

1:7  And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.

1:7 ποτήρια χρυσᾶ καὶ ἀργυρᾶ καὶ ἀνθράκινον κυλίκιον προκείμενον ἀπὸ ταλάντων τρισμυρίων· οἶνος πολὺς καὶ ἡδύς, ὃν αὐτὸς ὁ βασιλεὺς ἔπινεν.	1:7 καὶ ποτήρια χρυσᾶ ἔξαλλα καὶ οἶνον βασιλικὸς ὃν ὁ βασιλεὺς πίνει,
1:7 gold and silver cups, and a small cup of carbuncle set out of the value of 30,000 talents, abundant and sweet wine, which the king himself drank.	1:7 And the golden goblets were each different, and the wine was royal, which the king drinks.

1:8  And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel; for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man’s pleasure.

1:8 ὁ δὲ πότος οὗτος οὐ κατὰ προκείμενον νόμον ἐγένετο, οὕτως δὲ ἠθέλησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ἐπέταξεν τοῖς οἰκονόμοις ποιῆσαι τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.	1:8 καὶ πότος κατὰ τὸν νόμον· οὕτως γὰρ ἐπέταξεν ὁ βασιλεύς ποιῆσαι τὸ θέλημα τῶν ἀνθρώπων.
1:8 And this banquet wasn’t according to the appointed law; but so the king would have it; and he charged the stewards to perform his will and that of the company.	1:8 And this wine party was according to law, for so the king had ordered that the will of the men be done.

1:9  Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.

1:9 καὶ Ἀστὶν ἡ βασίλισσα ἐποίησε πότον ταῖς γυναιξὶν ἐν τοῖς βασιλείοις, ὅπου ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀρταξέρξης.	1:9 καὶ Οὐαστὶν ἡ βασίλισσα ἐποίησε δοχὴν μεγάλην πάσαις ταῖς γυναιξὶν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ τοῦ βασιλέως.
1:9 Also Astin the queen made a banquet for the women in the palace where king Artaxerxes dwelt .	1:9 And Ouastin the queen gave a great reception for all the women in the court of the king.

1:10  On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

1:10 ἐν δὲ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἡδέως γενόμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπεν τῷ Ἀμὰν καὶ Βαζὰν καὶ Θαρρὰ καὶ Βωραζὴ καὶ Ζαθολθὰ καὶ Ἀβαταζὰ καὶ Θαραβά, τοῖς ἑπτὰ εὐνούχοις τοῖς διακόνοις τοῦ βασιλέως Ἀρταξέρξου,	1:10 ἐγένετο δὲ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἐν τῷ εὐφρανθῆναι τὸν βασιλέα ἐν τῷ οἴνῳ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ
1:10 Now on the seventh day the king, being merry, told Aman, and Bazan, and Tharrha, and Barazi, and Zatholtha, and Abataza, and Tharaba, the seven chamberlains, servants of king Artaxerxes,	1:10 Now it happened on the seventh day, when the king was feeling good from the wine, the king told his servants

1:11  To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to show the people and the princes her beauty; for she was fair to look on.

1:11 εἰσαγαγεῖν τὴν βασίλισσαν πρὸς αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν αὐτὴν καὶ περιθεῖναι αὐτῇ τὸ διάδημα καὶ δεῖξαι αὐτὴν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἄρχουσιν καὶ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν τὸ κάλλος αὐτῆς, ὅτι καλὴ ἦν.	1:11 ἀγαγεῖν Οὐαστὶν τὴν βασίλισσαν εἰς τὸ συνεστηκὸς συμπόσιον ἐν τῷ διαδήματι τῆς βασιλείας αὐτῆς κατὰ πρόσωπον τῆς στρατιᾶς αὐτοῦ.

1:13  Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew law and judgment.

1:14 καὶ προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ Ἀρκεσαιὸς καὶ Σαρσαθαιὸς καὶ Μαλησεὰρ οἱ ἄρχοντες Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων οἱ ἐγγὺς τοῦ βασιλέως οἱ πρῶτοι παρακαθήμενοι τῷ βασιλεῖ	1:14 καὶ προσῆλθον πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ ἄρχοντες Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων καὶ οἱ ὁρῶντες τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ οἱ καθήμενοι ἐν τοῖς βασιλείοις.

1:15  What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law, because she hasn’t performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?

1:15 καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτῷ κατὰ τοὺς νόμους ὡς δεῖ ποιῆσαι Ἀστὶν τῇ βασιλίσσῃ, ὅτι οὐκ ἐποίησεν τὰ ὑπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως προσταχθέντα διὰ τῶν εὐνούχων.	1:15  N/A

1:21  And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan.

1:21 καὶ ἤρεσεν ὁ λόγος τῷ βασιλεῖ καὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσι, καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καθὰ ἐλάλησεν ὁ Μουχαῖος·	1:21 καὶ ἀγαθὸς ὁ λόγος ἐν καρδίᾳ τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑτοίμως κατὰ τὸν λόγον τοῦτον.
1:21 And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did as Muchaeus had said,	1:21 This word was good in the heart of the king, and he acted readily according to this advice.

1:22  For he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

1:22 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς πᾶσαν τὴν βασιλείαν κατὰ χώραν κατὰ τὴν λέξιν αὐτῶν ὥστε εἶναι φόβον αὐτοῖς ἐν ταῖς οἰκίαις αὐτῶν.	1:22  N/A
