Esther

4:1  When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai tore his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;

וּמָרְדֳּכַי יָדַע אֶת ־ כָּל ־ אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשָׂה וַיִּקְרַע מָרְדֳּכַי אֶת ־ בְּגָדָיו וַיִּלְבַּשׁ שַׂק וָאֵפֶר וַיֵּצֵא בְּתֹוךְ הָעִיר וַיִּזְעַק זְעָקָה גְדֹלָה וּמָרָה׃

4:1 ὁ δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ἐπιγνοὺς τὸ συντελούμενον διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνεδύσατο σάκκον καὶ κατεπάσατο σποδὸν καὶ ἐκπηδήσας διὰ τῆς πλατείας τῆς πόλεως ἐβόα φωνῇ μεγάλῃ αἴρεται ἔθνος μηδὲν ἠδικηκός.	4:1 Ὁ δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ἐπέγνω πάντα τὰ γεγονότα, καὶ ἡ πόλις Σοῦσα ἐταράσσετο ἐπὶ τοῖς γεγενημένοις, καὶ πᾶσι τοῖς ἰουδαίοις ἦν πένθος μέγα καὶ πικρὸν ἐν πάσῃ πόλει.
4:1 But Mardochaios having perceived what was done, rent his garments, and put on sackcloth, and sprinkled dust on himself; and having rushed forth through the open street of the city, he cried with a loud voice, A nation that has done no wrong is going to be destroyed.	4:1 Now Mardochaios learned everything that had happened, and the city of Susa was in turmoil because of the things that had taken place. For all the Judeans there was great and bitter sorrow in the whole city.

4:2  And came even before the king’s gate; for none might enter into the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.

וַיָּבֹוא עַד לִפְנֵי שַׁעַר ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּי אֵין לָבֹוא אֶל ־ שַׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ בִּלְבוּשׁ שָׂק׃

4:2 καὶ ἦλθεν ἕως τῆς πύλης τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἔστη· οὐ γὰρ ἦν ἐξὸν αὐτῷ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν σάκκον ἔχοντι καὶ σποδόν.	4:2 ὁ δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ἐλθὼν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ περιείλετο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ περιεβάλετο σάκκον καὶ σποδωθεὶς ἐξῆλθεν ὡς ἐπὶ τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἔξω καὶ ἔστη· οὐ γὰρ ἠδύνατο εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὰ βασίλεια ἐν σάκκῳ.
4:2 And he came to the king’s gate, and stood; for it wasn’t lawful for him to enter into the palace, wearing sackcloth and ashes.	4:2 Now Mardochaios went to his home, folded up his clothes and put on sackcloth. After he had sprinkled ashes on himself, he went out as far as the outer courtyard and stood there, for he could not enter the royal precincts in sackcloth.

4:3  And in every province, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

וּבְכָל ־ מְדִינָה וּמְדִינָה מְקֹום אֲשֶׁר דְּבַר ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ וְדָתֹו מַגִּיעַ אֵבֶל גָּדֹול לַיְּהוּדִים וְצֹום וּבְכִי וּמִסְפֵּד שַׂק וָאֵפֶר יֻצַּע לָרַבִּים׃

4:3 καὶ ἐν πάσῃ χώρᾳ, οὗ ἐξετίθετο τὰ γράμματα, κραυγὴ καὶ κοπετὸς καὶ πένθος μέγα τοῖς ἰουδαίοις, σάκκον καὶ σποδὸν ἔστρωσαν ἑαυτοῖς.	4:3  N/A
4:3 And in every province where the letters were published, there was crying and lamentation and great mourning on the part of the Jews: they spread for themselves sackcloth and ashes.	4:3 N/A

4:4  So Esther’s maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent clothing to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him; but he received it not.

וַתְּבֹואֶינָה נַעֲרֹות אֶסְתֵּר וְסָרִיסֶיהָ וַיַּגִּידוּ לָהּ וַתִּתְחַלְחַל הַמַּלְכָּה מְאֹד וַתִּשְׁלַח בְּגָדִים לְהַלְבִּישׁ אֶת ־ מָרְדֳּכַי וּלְהָסִיר שַׂקֹּו מֵעָלָיו וְלֹא קִבֵּל׃

4:4 καὶ εἰσῆλθον αἱ ἅβραι καὶ οἱ εὐνοῦχοι τῆς βασιλίσσης καὶ ἀνήγγειλαν αὐτῇ, καὶ ἐταράχθη ἀκούσασα τὸ γεγονὸς καὶ ἀπέστειλεν στολίσαι τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ ἀφελέσθαι αὐτοῦ τὸν σάκκον, ὁ δὲ οὐκ ἐπείσθη.	4:4 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν εὐνοῦχον ἕνα καὶ ἀπέστειλε πρὸς Ἐσθήρ, καὶ εἶπεν ἡ βασίλισσα Περιέλεσθε τὸν σάκκον καὶ εἰσαγάγετε αὐτόν· ὃς δὲ οὐκ ἤθελεν.
4:4 And the queen’s maids and chamberlains went in and told her; and when she had heard what was done, she was disturbed; and she sent to clothe Mardochaios, and take away his sackcloth; but he consented not.	4:4 So he called one eunuch and sent him to Esther. And the queen said, “Take off his sackcloth, and bring him in.” But he did not want to.

4:5  Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king’s chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend on her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.

וַתִּקְרָא אֶסְתֵּר לַהֲתָךְ מִסָּרִיסֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר הֶעֱמִיד לְפָנֶיהָ וַתְּצַוֵּהוּ עַל ־ מָרְדֳּכָי לָדַעַת מַה ־ זֶּה וְעַל ־ מַה ־ זֶּה׃

4:5 ἡ δὲ Ἐσθὴρ προσεκαλέσατο Ἁχραθαῖον τὸν εὐνοῦχον αὐτῆς, ὃς παρειστήκει αὐτῇ, καὶ ἀπέστειλεν μαθεῖν αὐτῇ παρὰ τοῦ Μαρδοχαίου τὸ ἀκριβές·	4:5  N/A
4:5 So Esther called for her chamberlain Achrathaeus, who waited on her; and she sent to learn the truth from Mardochaios.	4:5 N/A

4:6  So Hatach went forth to Mordecai to the street of the city, which was before the king’s gate.

וַיֵּצֵא הֲתָךְ אֶל ־ מָרְדֳּכָי אֶל ־ רְחֹוב הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר לִפְנֵי שַׁעַר ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ׃

4:7  And Mordecai told him of all that had happened to him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.

וַיַּגֶּד ־ לֹו מָרְדֳּכַי אֵת כָּל ־ אֲשֶׁר קָרָהוּ וְאֵת פָּרָשַׁת הַכֶּסֶף אֲשֶׁר אָמַר הָמָן לִשְׁקֹול עַל ־ גִּנְזֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ בַּיְּהוּדִיִּים לְאַבְּדָם׃

4:7 ὁ δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ὑπέδειξεν αὐτῷ τὸ γεγονὸς καὶ τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν, ἣν ἐπηγγείλατο Ἀμὰν τῷ βασιλεῖ εἰς τὴν γάζαν ταλάντων μυρίων, ἵνα ἀπολέσῃ τοὺς Ἰουδαίους·	4:7  N/A
4:7 And Mardochaios showed him what was done, and the promise which Aman had made the king of 10,000 talents to be paid into the treasury, that he might destroy the Jews.	4:7 N/A

4:8  Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to charge her that she should go in to the king, to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people.

וְאֶת ־ פַּתְשֶׁגֶן כְּתָב ־ הַדָּת אֲשֶׁר ־ נִתַּן בְּשׁוּשָׁן לְהַשְׁמִידָם נָתַן לֹו לְהַרְאֹות אֶת ־ אֶסְתֵּר וּלְהַגִּיד לָהּ וּלְצַוֹּות עָלֶיהָ לָבֹוא אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ לְהִתְחַנֶּן ־ לֹו וּלְבַקֵּשׁ מִלְּפָנָיו עַל ־ עַמָּהּ׃

4:8 καὶ τὸ ἀντίγραφον τὸ ἐν Σούσοις ἐκτεθὲν ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἀπολέσθαι αὐτοὺς ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ δεῖξαι τῇ Ἐσθὴρ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἐντείλασθαι αὐτῇ εἰσελθούσῃ παραιτήσασθαι τὸν βασιλέα καὶ ἀξιῶσαι αὐτὸν περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ μνησθεῖσα ἡμερῶν ταπεινώσεώς σου ὡς ἐτράφης ἐν χειρί μου, διότι Ἀμὰν ὁ δευτερεύων τῷ βασιλεῖ ἐλάλησεν καθ’ ἡμῶν εἰς θάνατον· ἐπικάλεσαι τὸν κύριον καὶ λάλησον τῷ βασιλεῖ περὶ ἡμῶν καὶ ῥῦσαι ἡμᾶς ἐκ θανάτου.

4:8 ἀλλ’ εἶπεν Οὕτως ἐρεῖτε αὐτῇ Μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τοῦ εἰσελθεῖν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα καὶ κολακεῦσαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ μνησθεῖσα ἡμερῶν ταπεινώσεώς σου ὧν ἐτράφης ἐν τῇ χειρί μου, ὅτι Ἁμὰν ὁ δευτερεύων λελάληκε τῷ βασιλεῖ καθ’ ἡμῶν εἰς θάνατον. ἐπικαλεσαμένη οὖν τὸν θεὸν λάλησον περὶ ἡμῶν τῷ βασιλεῖ, καὶ ῥῦσαι ἡμᾶς ἐκ θανάτου.

4:8 And he gave him the copy of the writing that was published in Susa concerning their destruction, to show to Esther; and told him to charge her to go in and entreat the king, and to beg him for the people, remembering, said he, the days of your low estate, how you were nursed by my hand: because Aman who holds the next place to the king has spoken against us for death. Do you call on the Lord, and speak to the king concerning us, to deliver us from death.

4:8 Instead he said, “Thus you will say to her, ‘Do not turn away from going to the king and flattering his person for the sake of me and my people, remembering your humble days when you were being brought up by my hand, because Haman, who is the second in command, has spoken to the king against us to put us to death. Therefore call on God, and speak about us to the king, and deliver us from death!’ ”

4:9  And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

וַיָּבֹוא הֲתָךְ וַיַּגֵּד לְאֶסְתֵּר אֵת דִּבְרֵי מָרְדֳּכָי׃

4:9 εἰσελθὼν δὲ ὁ Ἁχραθαῖος ἐλάλησεν αὐτῇ πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους.	4:9 καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῇ τὴν ὀδύνην τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
4:9 So Achrathaeus went in and told her all these words.	4:9 So he made known to her the tribulation of Israēl.

4:10  Again Esther spoke to Hatach, and gave him commandment to Mordecai;

וַתֹּאמֶר אֶסְתֵּר לַהֲתָךְ וַתְּצַוֵּהוּ אֶל ־ מָרְדֳּכָי׃

4:10 εἶπεν δὲ Ἐσθὴρ πρὸς Ἁχραθαῖον πορεύθητι πρὸς Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ εἰπὸν ὅτι	4:10 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτῷ κατὰ τάδε λέγουσα
4:10 And Esther said to Achrathaeus, Go to Mardochaios, and say,	4:10 And she sent to him saying as follows,

4:11  All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whoever, whether man or woman, shall come to the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live; but I haven’t been called to come in to the king these 30 days.

כָּל ־ עַבְדֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וְעַם ־ מְדִינֹות הַמֶּלֶךְ יֹודְעִים אֲשֶׁר כָּל ־ אִישׁ וְאִשָּׁה אֲשֶׁר יָבֹוא ־ אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶל ־ הֶחָצֵר הַפְּנִימִית אֲשֶׁר לֹא ־ יִקָּרֵא אַחַת דָּתֹו לְהָמִית לְבַד מֵאֲשֶׁר יֹושִׁיט ־ לֹו הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת ־ שַׁרְבִיט הַזָּהָב וְחָיָה וַאֲנִי לֹא נִקְרֵאתִי לָבֹוא אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ זֶה שְׁלֹושִׁים יֹום׃

4:11 τὰ ἔθνη πάντα τῆς βασιλείας γινώσκει ὅτι πᾶς ἄνθρωπος ἢ γυνή, ὃς εἰσελεύσεται πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἐσωτέραν ἄκλητος, οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτῷ σωτηρίᾳ· πλὴν ᾧ ἐκτείνει ὁ βασιλεὺς τὴν χρυσῆν ῥάβδον, οὗτος σωθήσεται· κἀγὼ οὐ κέκλημαι εἰσελθεῖν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα, εἰσὶν αὗται ἡμέραι τριάκοντα.	4:11 σὺ γινώσκεις παρὰ πάντας ὅτι ὃς ἂν εἰσέλθῃ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα ἄκλητος, ᾧ οὐκ ἐκτενεῖ τὴν ῥάβδον αὐτοῦ τὴν χρυσῆν, θανάτου ἔνοχος ἔσται. καὶ ἐγὼ οὐ κέκλημαι πρὸς αὐτόν, ἡμέραι εἰσὶ τριάκοντα· καὶ πῶς εἰσελεύσομαι νῦν ἄκλητος οὖσα;
4:11 All the nations of the empire know, that whoever, man or woman, shall go in to the king into the inner court uncalled, that person cannot live: only to whomever the king shall stretch out his golden sceptre, he shall live; and I haven’t been called to go into the king, for these thirty days.	4:11 “You know as well as anyone that whoever goes to the king uninvited, he to whom he doesn’t hold out his golden scepter will be subject to death. And I have not been called to him for thirty days. So how can I go now, not being invited?”

4:12  And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words.

וַיַּגִּידוּ לְמָרְדֳּכָי אֵת דִּבְרֵי אֶסְתֵּר׃ פ

4:12 καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν Ἁχραθαῖος Μαρδοχαίῳ πάντας τοὺς λόγους Ἐσθήρ.	4:12  N/A
4:12 And Achrathaeus reported to Mardochaios all the words of Esther.	4:12 N/A

4:13  Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with yourself that you shall escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.

וַיֹּאמֶר מָרְדֳּכַי לְהָשִׁיב אֶל ־ אֶסְתֵּר אַל ־ תְּדַמִּי בְנַפְשֵׁךְ לְהִמָּלֵט בֵּית ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ מִכָּל ־ הַיְּהוּדִים׃

4:13 καὶ εἶπεν Μαρδοχαῖος πρὸς Ἁχραθαῖον πορεύθητι καὶ εἰπὸν αὐτῇ Ἐσθήρ, μὴ εἴπῃς σεαυτῇ ὅτι σωθήσῃ μόνη ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ παρὰ πάντας τοὺς Ἰουδαίους·	4:13 καὶ ἀπέστειλε πρὸς αὐτὴν Μαρδοχαῖος καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ
4:13 Then Mardochaios said to Achrathaeus, Go, and say to her, Esther, don’t say to yourself that you alone will escape in the kingdom, more than all the other Jews.	4:13 So Mardochaios sent to her and said to her,

4:14  For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father’s house shall be destroyed; and who knows whether you are come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

כִּי אִם ־ הַחֲרֵשׁ תַּחֲרִישִׁי בָּעֵת הַזֹּאת רֶוַח וְהַצָּלָה יַעֲמֹוד לַיְּהוּדִים מִמָּקֹום אַחֵר וְאַתְּ וּבֵית ־ אָבִיךְ תֹּאבֵדוּ וּמִי יֹודֵעַ אִם ־ לְעֵת כָּזֹאת הִגַּעַתְּ לַמַּלְכוּת׃

4:14 ὡς ὅτι ἐὰν παρακούσῃς ἐν τούτῳ τῷ καιρῷ, ἄλλοθεν βοήθεια καὶ σκέπη ἔσται τοῖς ἰουδαίοις, σὺ δὲ καὶ ὁ οἶκος τοῦ πατρός σου ἀπολεῖσθε· καὶ τίς οἶδεν εἰ εἰς τὸν καιρὸν τοῦτον ἐβασίλευσας;	4:14 Ἐὰν ὑπερίδῃς τὸ ἔθνος σου τοῦ μὴ βοηθῆσαι αὐτοῖς, ἀλλ’ ὁ θεὸς ἔσται αὐτοῖς βοηθὸς καὶ σωτηρία, σὺ δὲ καὶ ὁ οἶκος τοῦ πατρός σου ἀπολεῖσθε· καὶ τίς οἶδεν εἰ εἰς τὸν καιρὸν τοῦτον ἐβασίλευσας;
4:14 For if you shall refuse to listen on this occasion, help and protection will be to the Jews from another quarter; but you and your father’s house will perish; and who knows, if you have been made queen for this very occasion?	4:14 “If you ignore your nation and do not help them, then surely God will be to them a helper and deliverance, but you and your father’s household will perish. And who knows if for this time you were made queen?”

4:15  Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,

וַתֹּאמֶר אֶסְתֵּר לְהָשִׁיב אֶל ־ מָרְדֳּכָי׃

4:15 καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν Ἐσθὴρ τὸν ἥκοντα πρὸς αὐτὴν πρὸς Μαρδοχαῖον λέγουσα	4:15 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἡ βασίλισσα λέγουσα
4:15 And Esther sent the man who came to her to Mardochaios, saying,	4:15 Then the queen sent saying,

4:16  Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast you for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.

לֵךְ כְּנֹוס אֶת ־ כָּל ־ הַיְּהוּדִים הַנִּמְצְאִים בְּשׁוּשָׁן וְצוּמוּ עָלַי וְאַל ־ תֹּאכְלוּ וְאַל ־ תִּשְׁתּוּ שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים לַיְלָה וָיֹום גַּם ־ אֲנִי וְנַעֲרֹתַי אָצוּם כֵּן וּבְכֵן אָבֹוא אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר לֹא ־ כַדָּת וְכַאֲשֶׁר אָבַדְתִּי אָבָדְתִּי׃

4:16 βαδίσας ἐκκλησίασον τοὺς Ἰουδαίους τοὺς ἐν Σούσοις καὶ νηστεύσατε ἐπ’ ἐμοὶ καὶ μὴ φάγητε μηδὲ πίητε ἐπὶ ἡμέρας τρεῖς νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν, κἀγὼ δὲ καὶ αἱ ἅβραι μου ἀσιτήσομεν, καὶ τότε εἰσελεύσομαι πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα παρὰ τὸν νόμον, ἐὰν καὶ ἀπολέσθαι με ᾖ.	4:16 Παραγγείλατε θεραπείαν καὶ δεήθητε τοῦ θεοῦ ἐκτενῶς· κἀγὼ δὲ καὶ τὰ κοράσιά μου ποιήσομεν οὕτως, καὶ εἰσελεύσομαι πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα ἄκλητος, εἰ δέοι καὶ ἀποθανεῖν με.
4:16 Go and assemble the Jews that are in Susa, and fast you for me, and eat not and drink not for three days, night and day; and I also and my maidens will fast; and then I will go in to the king contrary to the law, even if I must die.	4:16 “Proclaim a religious service, and petition God earnestly, and I and my girls will do likewise. And I will go to the king uninvited, even if it be necessary that I die.”

4:17  So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

וַיַּעֲבֹר מָרְדֳּכָי וַיַּעַשׂ כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר ־ צִוְּתָה עָלָיו אֶסְתֵּר׃ ס

4:17 καὶ βαδίσας Μαρδοχαῖος ἐποίησεν ὅσα ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ Ἐσθήρ,	4:17 καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως Μαρδοχαῖος.
4:17 So Mardochaios went and did all that Esther commanded him.	4:17 And Mardochaios did so.

C.2 κύριε κύριε βασιλεῦ πάντων κρατῶν, ὅτι ἐν ἐξουσίᾳ σου τὸ πᾶν ἐστιν, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ ἀντιδοξῶν σοί ἐν τῷ θέλειν σὲ σῶσαι τὸν Ἰσραήλ·	C.2 καὶ εἶπεν Δέσποτα παντοκράτορ, οὗ ἐν τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ ἐστὶ τὰ πάντα, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὃς ἀντιτάξεταί σοι ἐν τῷ θέλειν σε σῶσαι τὸν οἶκον Ἰσραήλ·
C.2 and he said, Lord God, king ruling over all, for all things are in your power, and there is no one that shall oppose you, in your purpose to save Israēl. –	C.2 And he said, “Master Almighty, under whose authority are all things and there is no one who can resist you when it is your will to save the house of Israēl,

C.5 You know all things: you know, Lord, that it is not in insolence, nor haughtiness, nor love of glory, that I have done this, to refuse obeisance to the haughty Aman.	C.5 For you know all things and the race of Israēl you know. It was not in insolence nor for any love of glory that I did not bow down to this uncircumcised Haman,

C.6 For I would gladly have kissed the soles of his feet for the safety of Israēl.	C.6 since I would have been willing to kiss the soles of his feet for the sake of Israēl,

C.7 ἀλλὰ ἐποίησα τοῦτο, ἵνα μὴ θῶ δόξαν ἀνθρώπου ὑπεράνω δόξης θεοῦ, καὶ οὐ προσκυνήσω οὐδένα πλὴν σου τοῦ κυρίου μου καὶ οὐ ποιήσω αὐτὰ ἐν ὑπερηφανίᾳ.	C.7 ἀλλ’ ἐποίησα ἵνα μηδένα προτάξω τῆς δόξης σοῦ δέσποτα, καὶ μηδένα προσκυνήσω πλὴν σοῦ τοῦ ἀληθινοῦ καὶ οὐ ποιήσω αὐτὸ ἐν πειρασμῷ.
C.7 But I have done this, that I might not set the glory of man above the glory of God; and I won’t worship anyone except you, my Lord, and I won’t do these things in haughtiness. C.8 And now, Oh Lord God, the King, the God of Abraham, spare your people, for our enemies are looking on us to our destruction, and they have desired to destroy your ancient inheritance. C.16 ἐγὼ δὲ ἤκουσα πατρικῆς μου βίβλου ὅτι ἐλυτρώσω τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ πάντων τῶν ἐθνῶν καὶ τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν ἐκ τῶν προγόνων αὐτῶν ἐπιθέμενος αὐτοῖς Ἰσραὴλ κληρονομίαν αἰώνιον καὶ ἐποίησας αὐτοῖς ἃ ἐλάλησας αὐτοῖς καὶ παρέσχου ὅσα ᾔτησαν.
C.16 I have heard from my birth, in the tribe of my kindred that you, Lord, took Israēl out of all the nations, and our fathers out of all their kindred for a perpetual inheritance, and have wrought for them all that you have said.	C.16 Now I have heard from the book of my heritage that you redeemed Israēl out of all the nations and their fathers from among their forebears, appointing Israēl over them to be an everlasting inheritance. And you did for them what you said to them and provided whatever they asked.

C.20 in order to abolish the decree of your mouth, and utterly to destroy your inheritances, and to stop the mouth of those who praise you, and to extinguish the glory of your house and your altar,	C.20 to annul the stipulation of your mouth to destroy your inheritance and to stop the mouths of those who praise you and to extinguish the glory of your house and your altar,

C.21  

C.21 καὶ ἀνοῖξαι στόμα ἐθνῶν εἰς ἀρετὰς ματαίων καὶ θαυμασθῆναι βασιλέα σάρκινον εἰς αἰῶνα.	C.21 καὶ ἀνοῖξαι στόματα ἐχθρῶν εἰς ἀρετὰς ματαίων καὶ θαυμασθῆναι βασιλέα σάρκινον εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
C.21 and to open the mouth of the Gentiles to speak the praises of vanities, and in order that a mortal king should be admired forever.	C.21 and to open the mouths of enemies for the mighty deeds of vain things, and that a mortal king be admired forever.

C.22 μὴ παραδῷς, κύριε, τὸ σκῆπτρόν σου τοῖς μὴ οὖσιν, καὶ μὴ καταγελασάτωσαν ἐν τῇ πτώσει ἡμῶν, ἀλλὰ στρέψον τὴν βουλὴν αὐτῶν ἐπ’ αὐτούς, τὸν δὲ ἀρξάμενον ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς παραδειγμάτισον.	C.22 μὴ δὴ παραδῷς, κύριε, τὸ σκῆπτρόν σου τοῖς μισοῦσί σε ἐχθροῖς, καὶ μὴ χαρείησαν ἐπὶ τῇ πτώσει ἡμῶν· στρέψον τὰς βουλὰς αὐτῶν ἐπ’ αὐτούς, τὸν δὲ ἀρξάμενον ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς εἰς κακὰ παραδειγμάτισον.
C.22 Oh Lord, don’t resign your scepter to those who aren't, and don’t let them laugh at our fall, but turn their counsel, against themselves, and make an example of him who has begun to injure us.	C.22 “Oh Lord, do not ever surrender your scepter to enemies who hate you, and may they not rejoice at our downfall; turn their plans against them, and make a public example of him who began this evil against us.

C.23  

C.23 μνήσθητι, κύριε, γνώσθητι ἐν καιρῷ θλίψεως ἡμῶν καὶ ἐμὲ θάρσυνον, βασιλεῦ τῶν θεῶν καὶ πάσης ἀρχῆς ἐπικρατῶν·	C.23 ἐπιφάνηθι ἡμῖν, κύριε, καὶ γνώσθητι ἡμῖν ἐν καιρῷ θλίψεως ἡμῶν καὶ μὴ θραύσῃ ἡμᾶς.
C.23 Remember us, Oh Lord, manifest yourself in the time of our affliction, and encourage me, Oh King of gods, and ruler of all dominion.	C.23 Be manifest to us, Oh Lord; make yourself known to us in a time of our affliction, and do not break us.

C.24  

C.24 δὸς λόγον εὔρυθμον εἰς τὸ στόμα μου ἐνώπιον τοῦ λέοντος καὶ μετάθες τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ εἰς μῖσος τοῦ πολεμοῦντος ἡμᾶς εἰς συντέλειαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν ὁμονοούντων αὐτῷ·	C.24 δὸς λόγον εὔρυθμον εἰς τὸ στόμα μου καὶ χαρίτωσον τὰ ῥήματά μου ἐνώπιον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ μετάστρεψον τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ εἰς μῖσος τοῦ πολεμοῦντος ἡμᾶς εἰς συντέλειαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν ὁμονοούντων αὐτῷ·
C.24 Put harmonious speech into my mouth before the lion, and turn his heart to hate him who fights against us, to the utter destruction of him who consent with him.	C.24 Put eloquent speech in my mouth, and give favour to my words before the king, and change his heart to hate the one who fights against us so that there may be an end of him and those who agree with him.

C.25  

C.25 ἡμᾶς δὲ ῥῦσαι ἐν χειρί σου καὶ βοήθησόν μοι τῇ μόνῃ καὶ μὴ ἐχούσῃ εἰ μὴ σέ, κύριε.	C.25 ἡμᾶς δὲ ῥῦσαι ἐν τῇ χειρί σου τῇ κραταιᾷ καὶ βοήθησόν μοι, ὅτι σὺ πάντων γνῶσιν ἔχεις
C.25 But deliver us by your hand, and help me who am destitute, and have none but the, Oh Lord.	C.25 But save us by your strong hand, and help me, because you have knowledge of everything,

C.26  

C.26 πάντων γνῶσιν ἔχεις καὶ οἶδας ὅτι ἐμίσησα δόξαν ἀνόμων καὶ βδελύσσομαι κοίτην ἀπεριτμήτων καὶ παντὸς ἀλλοτρίου.	C.26 καὶ οἶδας ὅτι βδελύσσομαι κοίτην ἀπεριτμήτου καὶ ἐμίσησα δόξαν ἀνόμου καὶ παντὸς ἀλλογενοῦς.
C.26 You know all things, and know that I hate the glory of transgressors, and that I abhor the couch of the uncircumcised, and of every stranger.	C.26 and you know that I abhor the bed of the uncircumcised one and hate the glory of the lawless one and of any alien.

C.27  

C.27 σὺ οἶδας τὴν ἀνάγκην μου, ὅτι βδελύσσομαι τὸ σημεῖον τῆς ὑπερηφανίας μου, ὅ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς μου ἐν ἡμέραις ὀπτασίας μου· βδελύσσομαι αὐτὸ ὡς ῥάκος καταμηνίων καὶ οὐ φορῶ αὐτὸ ἐν ἡμέραις ἡσυχίας μου.	C.27 σύ, κύριε, οἶδας τὴν ἀνάγκην μου, ὅτι βδελύσσομαι τὸ σημεῖον τῆς ὑπερηφανίας, ὅ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς μου, καὶ οὐ φορῶ αὐτὸ εἰ μὴ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ὀπτασίας μου καὶ βδελύσσομαι αὐτὸ ὡς ῥάκος ἀποκαθημένης.
C.27 You know my necessity, for I abhor the symbol of my proud station, which is on my head in the days of my splendour: I abhor it as a menstruating cloth, and I wear it not in the days of my tranquility.	C.27 You, Oh Lord, know my predicament—that I abhor the sign of proud position that is on my head, and I do not wear it except on days when I appear in public. I abhor it like a cloth of a woman that sits apart.

C.28  

C.28 καὶ οὐκ ἔφαγεν ἡ δούλη σου τράπεζαν Ἀμὰν καὶ οὐκ ἐδόξασα συμπόσιον βασιλέως οὐδὲ ἔπιον οἶνον σπονδῶν·	C.28 καὶ οὐκ ἔφαγεν ἡ δούλη σου ἐπὶ τῶν τραπεζῶν αὐτῶν ἅμα, καὶ οὐκ ἐδόξασα βασιλέως συμπόσια καὶ οὐκ ἔπιον σπονδῆς οἶνον·
C.28 And your handmaid hasn’t eaten at the table of Aman, and I haven’t honoured the banquet of the king, neither have I drunk wine of libations.	C.28 And your slave has not eaten with them at their table, and I have not honoured the king’s banquets nor drunk the wine of libation.

C.29  

C.29 καὶ οὐκ ηὐφράνθη ἡ δούλη σου ἀφ’ ἡμέρας μεταβολῆς μου μέχρι νῦν πλὴν ἐπὶ σοί, κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ἁβραάμ.	C.29 καὶ οὐκ εὐφράνθημεν ἡ δούλη σου ἐφ’ ἡμέραις μεταβολῆς μου εἰ μὴ ἐπὶ σοί, δέσποτα.
C.29 Neither has your handmaid rejoiced since the day of my promotion until now, except in you, Oh Lord God of Abraham.	C.29 Your slave has not rejoiced since the day of my change, except in you, Master.

C.30  

C.30 ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἰσχύων ἐπὶ πάντας, εἰσάκουσον φωνὴν ἀπηλπισμένων καὶ ῥῦσαι ἡμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν πονηρευομένων· καὶ ῥῦσαί με ἐκ τοῦ φόβου μου.	C.30 καὶ νῦν, δυνατὸς ὢν ἐπὶ πάντας, εἰσάκουσον φωνῆς ἀπηλπισμένων καὶ ῥῦσαι ἡμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν πονηρευομένων ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐξελοῦ με, κύριε, ἐκ χειρὸς τοῦ φόβου μου.
C.30 Oh God, who has power over all, listen to the voice of the desperate, and deliver us from the hand of those who devise mischief; and deliver me from my fear.	C.30 And now, you who have power over all things, hear the voice of those who despair, and save us from the hand of those who do evil against us. And take me, Lord, out of the grip of my fear!”
