The Preaching of Jōhn the Baptist

The Baptism of Jesus

The Temptation of Jesus
(Mt 4.1‑11; Lk 4.1‑13)

Beginning of the Galilean Ministry

Calling of Four Fishermen
(Mt 4.18‑22; Lk 5.1‑11)

1:16 καὶ παράγων παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶδεν Σίμωνα καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν Σίμωνος ἀμφιβάλλοντας ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ· ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς. 16 περιπατῶν δὲ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας, εἶδε Σίμωνα καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ· ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς·

1:20 καὶ εὐθὺς ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς.

Man with an Unclean Spirit
(Lk 4.31‑37)

1:21 καὶ εἰσπορεύονται εἰς Καφαρναούμ· καὶ εὐθὺς τοῖς σάββασιν εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν ἐδίδασκεν. 21 καὶ εἰσπορεύονται εἰς Καπερναούμ· καὶ εὐθέως τοῖς σάββασιν εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν, ἐδίδασκε.

saying, “What is it to us and to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!” saying, “Leave us alone! What is it to us and to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!”
1:25 καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων, φιμώθητι καὶ ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ. 25 καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, λέγων, φιμώθητι, καὶ ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ.
And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”
1:26 καὶ σπαράξαν αὐτὸν τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἀκάθαρτον καὶ φωνῆσαν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἐξῆλθεν ἐξ αὐτοῦ. 26 καὶ σπαράξαν αὐτὸν τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἀκάθαρτον, καὶ κράξαν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ, ἐξῆλθεν ἐξ αὐτοῦ.

1:27 καὶ ἐθαμβήθησαν ἅπαντες ὥστε συζητεῖν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντας, τί ἐστιν τοῦτο;
διδαχὴ καινὴ κατ᾿ ἐξουσίαν καὶ τοῖς πνεύμασι τοῖς ἀκαθάρτοις ἐπιτάσσει, καὶ ὑπακούουσιν αὐτῷ. 		27 καὶ ἐθαμβήθησαν πάντες, ὥστε συζητεῖν πρὸς αὐτούς, λέγοντας, τί ἐστι τοῦτο;
τίς ἡ διδαχὴ καινὴ αὕτη, ὅτε κατ᾿ ἐξουσίαν καὶ τοῖς πνεύμασι τοῖς ἀκαθάρτοις ἐπιτάσσει, καὶ ὑπακούουσιν αὐτῷ;
They were all amazed, so that they argued among themselves, saying, “What is this thing? A new teaching according to authority! he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” They were all amazed, so that they argued among themselves, saying, “What is this thing? Healing of Many People
(Mt 8.14‑17; Lk 4.38‑41)

1:34 καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν πολλοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις καὶ δαιμόνια πολλὰ ἐξέβαλεν καὶ οὐκ ἤφιεν λαλεῖν τὰ δαιμόνια, ὅτι ᾔδεισαν αὐτόν. 34 καὶ ἐθεράπευσε πολλοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις· καὶ δαιμόνια πολλὰ ἐξέβαλε, καὶ οὐκ ἤφιε λαλεῖν τὰ δαιμόνια, ὅτι ᾔδεισαν αὐτόν.

Cleansing a Leper
