Salutation
The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. | The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. |
Beloved, I pray concerning all things that you may prosper and be healthy, just as your soul prospers. | Beloved, I pray concerning all things that you may prosper and be healthy, just as your soul prospers. |
For I was very glad when some brothers came and were testifying to your truth, just as you are walking in truth. | For I was very glad when some brothers came and were testifying to your truth, just as you are walking in truth. |
I have no greater joy than these things, that I may hear my children walking in the truth. | I have no greater joy than these things, that I may hear my children walking in the truth. |
Cooperation and Opposition
Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brothers and these strangers; | Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brothers and these strangers; |
who have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a way worthy of God. | who have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a way worthy of God. |
For they went out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. | For they went out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. |
Therefore we ought to receive such men, so that we may become co-workers in the truth. | Therefore we ought to receive such men, so that we may become co-workers in the truth. |
I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephēs, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t receive us. | I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephēs, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t receive us. |
For this reason, if I come, I will draw attention to his works which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself doesn’t receive the brothers, also, and he forbids those who want to do so and puts them out of the church. | For this reason, if I come, I will draw attention to his works which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself doesn’t receive the brothers, also, and he forbids those who want to do so and puts them out of the church. |
μὴ
τὸ
τὸ
Beloved, stop imitating what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. | Beloved, stop imitating what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. |
Dēmētrius has received a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself; and we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true. | Dēmētrius has received a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself; and we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true. |
Final Greetings
I had many things to write to you, but I don’t want to write them to you with ink and pen; | I had many things to write to you, but I don’t want to write them to you with ink and pen; |
