1 Now after the death of Joshua it happened, that the sons of Israēl asked Yahweh, saying, “Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?”

1 Καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν τελευτὴν Ἰησοῦ καὶ ἐπηρώτων οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν κυρίῳ λέγοντες Τίς ἀναβήσεται ἡμῖν πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον ἀφηγούμενος τοῦ πολεμῆσαι ἐν αὐτῷ;	1 Καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν τελευτὴν Ἰησοῦ καὶ ἐπηρώτων οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ διὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγοντες Τίς ἀναβήσεται ἡμῖν πρὸς τοὺς Χαναναίους ἀφηγούμενος τοῦ πολεμῆσαι πρὸς αὐτούς;

3 And Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into my allotment, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and likewise I will go with you into your allotment.” So Simeon went with him.

3 καὶ εἶπεν Ἰούδας πρὸς Συμεὼν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ Ἀνάβηθι μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ μου, καὶ πολεμήσωμεν ἐν τῷ Χαναναίῳ, καὶ πορεύσομαι καὶ γε ἐγὼ μετὰ σου ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ σου, καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετ’ αὐτοῦ Συμεών.	3 καὶ εἶπεν Ἰούδας τῷ Συμεὼν ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ ἀνάβηθι μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ μου, καὶ παραταξώμεθα πρὸς τοὺς Χαναναίους, καὶ πορεύσομαι κἀγὼ μετὰ σου ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ σου. καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετ’ αὐτοῦ Συμεών.

4 καὶ ἀνέβη Ἰούδας, καὶ ἔδωκεν κύριος τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς ἐν Βεζέκ, δέκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν,	4 καὶ ἀνέβη Ἰούδας, καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν, καὶ ἔκοψαν αὐτοὺς ἐν Βεζὲκ εἰς δέκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν,
4 And Joudas went up, and the Lord gave the Chananite and the Pherezite in his hand, and he struck them down at Bezek, 10,000 men.	4 And Joudas went up, and the Lord gave over the Chananite and the Pherezite into their hands, and they cut them down at Bezek, about 10,000 men.

5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they killed the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 καὶ ἔφυγεν Ἀδωνιβεζέκ, καὶ κατεδίωξαν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλαβον αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέκοψαν τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ.	6 καὶ ἔφυγεν Ἀδωνιβεζὲκ καὶ κατέδραμον ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ· καὶ κατελάβοσαν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀπέκοψαν τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἄκρα τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ.

7 καὶ εἶπεν Ἀδωνιβεζὲκ Ἑβδομήκοντα βασιλεῖς τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν ποδῶν αὐτῶν ἀποκεκομμένοι ἦσαν συλλέγοντες τὰ ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης μου· καθὼς οὖν ἐποίησα, οὕτως ἀνταπέδωκέν μοι ὁ θεός. καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκεῖ.	7 καὶ εἶπεν Ἀδωνιβεζὲκ Ἑβδομήκοντα βασιλεῖς τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ἄκρα τῶν ποδῶν αὐτῶν ἀποκεκομμένοι ἦσαν συλλέγοντες τὰ ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης μου· καθὼς οὖν ἐποίησα, οὕτως ἀνταπέδωκέν μοι ὁ θεός. καὶ ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκεῖ.

8 And the sons of Joudas fought against Jerousalēm and captured it. 10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron; (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba;) and they killed Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

10 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ἰούδας πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν Χεβρών, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Χεβρὼν ἐξ ἐναντίας· τὸ δὲ ὄνομα Χεβρὼν ἦν ἔμπροσθεν Καριαθαρβοκσεφέρ. καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν Σεσὶ καὶ τὸν Ἀχιμὰν καὶ τὸν Θολμί, γεννήματα τοῦ Ἐνάκ.	10 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ἰούδας πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν Χεβρών, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Χεβρὼν ἐξ ἐναντίας· καὶ τὸ ὄνομα ἦν Χεβρὼν τὸ πρότερον Καριαθαρβοξεφέρ· καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὸν Σεσσὶ καὶ Ἀχιναὰν καὶ Θολμίν, γεννήματα τοῦ Ἐνάκ.

14 And it happened, when she came to him, that she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she dismounted from her donkey, Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”

14 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἰσπορεύεσθαι αὐτὴν καὶ ἐπέσεισεν αὐτὴν αἰτῆσαι παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς τὸν ἀγρόν, καὶ ἐγόγγυζεν ἐπάνω τοῦ ὑποζυγίου καὶ ἔκραξεν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑποζυγίου εἰς γῆν νότου ἐκδέδοσαί με. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Χαλὲβ Τί ἐστίν σοι;	14 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ εἰσόδῳ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπέσεισεν αὐτὴν Γοθονιὴλ τοῦ αἰτῆσαι παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς ἀγρόν· καὶ ἐγόγγυζεν καὶ ἔκραξεν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑποζυγίου εἰς γῆν νότου ἐκδέδοσαί με. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Χαλὲβ Τί ἐστίν σοι;
14 And it came to be, when she entered, that he urged her to ask for the field from her father. And she grumbled on her work animal and cried out from where she was on her work animal, “You have given me away into the land of the south.” And Chaleb said to her, “What do you want?”	14 And it came to be, at her entrance that Gothoniēl urged her that she should ask for a field from her father. 15 And Ascha said to him, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me away into the land of the south, you shall also give me redemption of water.” And, according to her heart, Chaleb gave her the redemption of the upper and the redemption of the lower.	15 And Ascha said to him, “Please give me a blessing; since you have given me away into the land of the south, you shall also give me redemption of water.” And, according to her desire, Chaleb gave her redemption of the upper and redemption of the lower.

16 And the sons of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the sons of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

16 And the sons of Jōbab the Kinite, father-in-law to Moses, went up out of the City of Palms to the sons of Joudas, into the wilderness that is in the south near the descent of Arad. 17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they killed the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

17 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ἰούδας μετὰ Συμεὼν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα Σεφὲθ καὶ ἀνεθεμάτισαν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσαν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐκάλεσαν τὸ ὄνομα τῆς πόλεως Ἐξολέθρευσις.	17 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ἰούδας μετὰ Συμεὼν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔκοψεν τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα Σεφέκ· καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσαν αὐτούς, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τῆς πόλεως Ἀνάθεμα.
17 And Joudas departed with his brother Symeōn, and they struck down the Chananite who inhabited Sepheth and anathematized it and destroyed it. 18 Also Judah took Gaza with its coast, and Askelon with its coast, and Ekron with its coast.

18 καὶ οὐκ ἐκληρονόμησεν Ἰούδας τὴν Γάζα καὶ τὸ ὅριον αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Ἀσκαλῶνα καὶ τὸ ὅριον αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Ἀκκαρὼν καὶ τὸ ὅριον αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Ἄζωτον καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς.	18 καὶ οὐκ ἐκληρονόμησεν Ἰούδας τὴν Γάζα οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς, οὐδὲ τὴν Ἀσκαλῶνα οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς, οὐδὲ τὴν Ἀκκαρὼν οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς, οὐδὲ τὴν Ἄζωτον οὐδὲ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς.
18 And Joudas didn’t inherit Gaza and its territory and Ascalōn and its territory and Akkarōn and its territory and Azōtus and its surrounding lands.	18 And Joudas didn’t inherit Gaza or its territories or Ascalōn or its territories or Akkarōn or its territories or Azōtus or its surrounding lands.

19 And Yahweh was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but couldn’t drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had iron chariots.

19 καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ἰούδα, καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὸ ὄρος· ὅτι οὐκ ἐδύνατο κληρονομῆσαι τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν κοιλάδα, ὅτι Ῥηχὰβ διεστείλατο αὐτήν.	19 καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ἰούδα, καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὸ ὄρος· ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνάσθησαν ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν κοιλάδα, ὅτι Ῥηχὰβ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς.
19 And the Lord was with Joudas, and he inherited the hill country, because he was unable to inherit the inhabitants of the valley, because Rēchab commanded it.	19 And the Lord was with Joudas and he inherited the hill country, because they were unable to destroy the inhabitants of the valley, because Rēchab gave commands to them.

20 And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses said, and he expelled the three sons of Anak from there.
