Joshua Reviews Israēl’s History

1 And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israēl to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israēl, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

1 And Jēsous gathered all the tribes of Israēl to Sēlō and summoned their elders and their scribes and their judges and set them before God. 1 And Jēsous gathered all the tribes of Israēl to Sēlō and summoned their elders and their scribes and their judges and set them before God.

2 And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, ‘Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor; and they served other gods.

2 And Jēsous said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israēl, says; ‘Your fathers at first lived beyond the river, Thara the father of Abraham and the father of Nachōr, and they served other gods. 2 And Jēsous said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israēl, says; ‘Your fathers at first lived beyond the river, Thara the father of Abraham and the father of Nachōr, and they served other gods.

3 And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

3 And I took your father Abraham from beyond the river and led him in all the land and multiplied his seed and gave him Isaac, 3 And I took your father Abraham from beyond the river and led him in all the land and multiplied his seed

4 And I gave Jacōb and Esau to Isaac; and I gave to Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacōb and his children went down into Egypt.

4 and to Isaac, Jakōb and Ēsau. And I gave to Ēsau Mount Sēir for him to inherit. And Jakōb and his sons went down into Aigypt and there they became a nation; great, populous and mighty, 4 gave him Isaac, and to Isaac, Jakōb and Ēsau. And I gave to Ēsau Mount Sēir for him to inherit. And Jakōb and his sons went down into Aigypt and there they became a nation; great, populous and mighty, and the Aigyptians afflicted them.’

5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to what I did among them; and afterward I brought you out.

5 and the Aigyptians afflicted them.’ And the Lord struck Aigypt with things he did to them, and afterwards he brought you out 5 And the Lord struck Aigypt with miracles that I did to them.

6 And I brought your fathers out of Egypt; and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.

6 of Aigypt. And you entered into the Red Sea, and the Aigyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horses into the Red Sea. 6 And afterwards you and your fathers went out of Aigypt and entered into the Red Sea, and the Aigyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horses into the Red Sea.

7 And when they cried to Yahweh, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea on them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt; and you dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

7 And we shouted aloud to the Lord, and he gave a cloud and gloom between us and between the Aigyptians, and he brought the sea on them and covered them, and your eyes saw what the Lord did in the land of Aigypt. And you were in the wilderness longer days. 7 And we shouted aloud to the Lord, and he gave a cloud and gloom between us and between the Aigyptians, and he brought the sea on them and covered them, and your eyes saw what the Lord did in the land of Aigypt. And you were in the wilderness longer days.

8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, that you might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

8 And he brought you into the land of the Amorrites, who dwelt beyond the Jordan, and they fought against you, and the Lord handed them over into your hands, and you inherited their land and destroyed them from before you. 8 And he brought you into the land of the Amorrites, who dwelt beyond the Jordan, and they fought against you, and the Lord handed them over into your hands, and you inherited their land and destroyed them from before you.

9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israēl, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you;

9 And Balak the son of Sepphōr, king of Mōab, rose up and deployed against Israēl, and he sent and called Balaam to curse you. 9 And Balak the son of Sepphōr, king of Mōab, rose up and deployed against Israēl, and he sent and called Balaam to curse us.

Joshua Assumes Command

10 but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you still; so I delivered you out of his hand.

10 And the Lord your God didn’t want destroy you, and he blessed you with a blessing and rescued you out of their hands and delivered them. 10 And the Lord your God didn’t want destroy you, and he blessed you with a blessing and rescued you out of their hands and delivered them.

11 And you went over Jordan, and came to Jericho; and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.

11 And you crossed over the Jordan and came to Jerichō, and the inhabitants of Jerichō fought against you, the Amorrite and the Chananite and the Pherezite and the Evite and the Jebousite and the Chettite and the Gergesite, and the Lord handed them over into your hands. 11 And you crossed over the Jordan and came to Jerichō, and the inhabitants of Jerichō fought against us, the Amorrite and the Chananite and the Pherezite and the Evite and the Jebousite and the Chettite and the Gergesite, and the Lord handed them over into your hands.

12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with your sword, nor with your bow.

12 And he sent forth the hornet ahead of you, and he drove them out from before you, the twelve kings of the Amorrites, not by your sword or by your bow. 12 And he sent forth the hornet ahead of you, and he drove them out from before you, the twelve kings of the Amorrites, not by your sword or by your bow.

13 And I have given you a land for which you didn’t labour, and cities which you didn’t build, and you are dwelling in them; of the vineyards and olive yards which you didn’t plant, you are eating.’

13 And he gave you a land, on which you didn’t labour, and cities that you didn’t build, and you were settled in them, and you shall eat of vineyards and olive yards that you didn’t plant. 13 And he gave you a land, on which you didn’t labour, and cities that you didn’t build, and you were settled in them, and you shall eat of vineyards and olive yards that you didn’t plant.

Make Your Choice

14 Now therefore fear Yahweh, and serve him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve Yahweh.

14 And now fear the Lord, and serve him in straightness and in righteousness, and put away the foreign gods that your fathers served beyond the river and in Aigypt, and serve the Lord. 14 And now fear the Lord, and serve him in straightness and in righteousness, and put away the foreign gods that your fathers served beyond the river and in Aigypt, and serve the Lord.

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served who were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.”

15 But if it doesn’t seem good to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods of your fathers who were beyond the river or the gods of the Amorrites among whom you live on their land, but I and my household will serve the Lord, because he is holy.” 15 But if it doesn’t seem good to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods of your fathers who were beyond the river or the gods of the Amorrites among whom you live on their land, but I and my household will serve the Lord, because he is holy.”

16 And the people answered and said, “Far be it from us that we should forsake Yahweh, to serve other gods;

16 And the people answered and said, “May it not be with us to forsake the Lord, so as to serve other gods. 16 And the people answered and said, “May it not be with us to forsake the Lord, so as to serve other gods.

17 for Yahweh our Elohim, is the one who brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way in which we went, and among all the people through whom we passed;

17 The Lord our God, he is God; he brought us and our fathers up out of Aigypt, and he protected us on all the way on which we went and among all the nations through whom we passed. 17 The Lord our God, he is God; he brought us and our fathers up out of Aigypt, and he protected us on all the way on which we went and among all the nations through whom we passed.

18 and Yahweh drove out from before us all the people, even the Amorites who dwelt in the land; therefore we will also serve Yahweh; for he is our God.”

18 And the Lord drove out from before us the Amorrite and all the nations that inhabited the land. But we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God.” 18 And the Lord drove out from before us the Amorrite and all the nations that inhabited the land. But we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”

19 And Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve Yahweh; for he is a holy Elohim; he is a jealous El; he won’t forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

19 And Jēsous said to the people, “You won’t be able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. And since he is jealous, he won’t forgive your sins and your lawlessnesses. 19 And Jēsous said to the people, “You won’t be able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. And since he is jealous, he won’t forgive your sins and your lawlessnesses.

20 If you forsake Yahweh, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he has done you good.”

20 Whenever you forsake the Lord and serve other gods, then he will come on you and will hurt you and destroy you, instead of doing you good.” 20 Whenever you forsake the Lord and serve other gods, then he will come on you and will hurt you and destroy you, instead of doing you good.”

21 And the people said to Joshua, “No; but we will serve Yahweh.”

21 And the people said to Jēsous, “No, but we will serve the Lord.” 21 And the people said to Jēsous, “No, but we will serve the Lord.”

22 And Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen you Yahweh, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.”

22 And Jēsous said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves, that you have chosen the Lord to serve him. 22 And Jēsous said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves, that you have chosen the Lord to serve him.

23 “Now therefore put away,” said he, “the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart to Yahweh Elohim of Israēl.”

23 And now put away the strange gods that are among you, and direct your heart toward the Lord God of Israēl.” 23 And now put away the strange gods that are among you, and direct your heart toward the Lord God of Israēl.”

24 And the people said to Joshua, “Yahweh our Elohim will we serve, and his voice will we obey.”

24 And the people said to Jēsous, “We will serve the Lord, and we will listen to his voice.” 24 And the people said to Jēsous, “We will serve the Lord, and we will listen to his voice.”

25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

25 And Jēsous made a covenant with the people on that day and gave them law and judgment at Sēlō before the tent of the God of Israēl. 25 And Jēsous made a covenant with the people on that day and gave them law and judgment at Sēlō before the tent of the God of Israēl.

26 And Joshua wrote these words in the scroll of the law of Elohim, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of Yahweh.

26 And he wrote these words in the scroll as the law of God, and he took a large stone, and Jēsous set it under the terebinth tree before the Lord. 26 And he wrote these words in the scroll as the law of God, and he took a large stone, and Jēsous set it under the terebinth tree before the Lord.

27 And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us; for it has heard all the words of Yahweh which he spoke to us; it shall be therefore a witness to you, lest you deny your Elohim.”

27 And Jēsous said to the people, “Look! this stone shall be within you for a witness; because it has heard all the things spoken to it by the Lord, whatever he spoke to us today, and this shall be within you for a witness at the last of days, whenever you deal falsely with the Lord my God.” 27 And Jēsous said to the people, “Look! this stone shall be within you for a witness; because it has heard all the things spoken to it by the Lord, whatever he spoke to us today, and this shall be within you for a witness at the last of days, whenever you deal falsely with the Lord my God.”

28 So Joshua let the people depart, every man to his inheritance.

28 And Jēsous sent the people away, and they went each to his place. 28 And Jēsous sent the people away, and they went each to his place.
