1 Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he got no heat.

2 Therefore his servants said to him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin; and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.

3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israēl, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king; and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and 50 men to run before him.

9 And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brothers the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah the king’s servants.

9 καὶ ἐθυσίασεν Ἀδωνίας πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας μετὰ λίθου τοῦ Ζωελέθ, ὃς ἦν ἐχόμενα τῆς πηγῆς Ῥωγήλ, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἁδροὺς Ἰούδα, παῖδας τοῦ βασιλέως·	9 καὶ ἐθυσίασεν Ἀδωνίας πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας παρὰ τὸν λίθον τοῦ Ζωελεθί, ὃς ἦν ἐχόμενα τῆς Ῥωγήλ, καὶ ἐκάλεσε πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἁδροὺς Ἰούδα παῖδας τοῦ βασιλέως·

11 Therefore Nathan spoke to Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?

13 Go and get you in to king David, and say to him, Didn’t you, my lord, Oh king, swear to your handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?

13 Come here! and go in to king David, and you shall speak to him, saying, ‛Didn’t you swear to your slave, Oh my lord king saying, Your son Salōmōn shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? 14 Behold, while you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after you, and confirm your words.

16 And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance to the king. And the king said, What do you want?

17 And she said to him, My lord, you swore by Yahweh your Elohim to your handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.

17 ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, σὺ ὤμοσας ἐν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ σου τῇ δούλῃ σου λέγων ὅτι Σαλωμὼν ὁ υἱός σου βασιλεύσει μετ’ ἐμὲ καὶ αὐτὸς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου.	17 ἡ δὲ εἶπε· κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, σὺ ὤμοσας ἐν Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ σου τῇ δούλῃ σου λέγων· ὅτι ὁ υἱός σου Σαλωμὼν βασιλεύσει μετ’ ἐμὲ καὶ αὐτὸς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου.

19 And he has slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but he hasn’t called Solomon your servant.

19 καὶ ἐθυσίασεν μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας καὶ πρόβατα εἰς πλῆθος καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Ἀβιαθὰρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ Ἰωὰβ τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς δυνάμεως, καὶ τὸν Σαλωμὼν τὸν δοῦλόν σου οὐκ ἐκάλεσεν.	19 καὶ ἐθυσίασε μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας καὶ πρόβατα εἰς πλῆθος καὶ ἐκάλεσε πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Ἀβιάθαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ Ἰωὰβ τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς δυνάμεως, καὶ τὸν Σαλωμὼν τὸν δοῦλόν σου οὐκ ἐκάλεσε.

20 And you, my lord, Oh king, the eyes of all Israēl are on you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

21 καὶ ἔσται ὡς ἄν κοιμηθῇ ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσομαι ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ υἱός μου Σαλωμὼν ἁμαρτωλοί.	21 καὶ ἔσται ὡς ἄν κοιμηθῇ ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσομαι ἐγὼ καὶ Σαλωμὼν ὁ υἱὸς μου ἁμαρτωλοί.

22 And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

23 And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he came in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

23 καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τῷ βασιλεῖ Ἰδοὺ Νάθαν ὁ προφήτης· καὶ εἰσῆλθεν κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ προσεκύνησεν τῷ βασιλεῖ κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.	23 καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τῷ βασιλεῖ· ἰδοὺ Νάθαν ὁ προφήτης· καὶ εἰσῆλθε κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ προσεκύνησε τῷ βασιλεῖ κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.

24 And Nathan said, My lord, Oh king, have you said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?

47 And moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself on the bed.

47 καὶ εἰσῆλθον οἱ δοῦλοι τοῦ βασιλέως εὐλογῆσαι τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν τὸν βασιλέα Δαυὶδ λέγοντες Ἀγαθύναι ὁ θεὸς τὸ ὄνομα Σαλωμὼν τοῦ υἱοῦ σου ὑπὲρ τὸ ὄνομά σου καὶ μεγαλύναι τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ τὸν θρόνον σου· καὶ προσεκύνησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ τὴν κοίτην αὐτοῦ,	47 καὶ εἰσῆλθον οἱ δοῦλοι τοῦ βασιλέως εὐλογῆσαι τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν τὸν βασιλέα Δαυὶδ λέγοντες· ἀγαθύναι ὁ Θεὸς τὸ ὄνομα Σαλωμὼν ὑπὲρ τὸ ὄνομά σου καὶ μεγαλύναι τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ τὸν θρόνον σου· καὶ προσεκύνησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ τὴν κοίτην,

48 And also thus said the king, Blessed be Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, which has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.

49 And all the guests who were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

50 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

51 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah fears king Solomon: for, lo, he has caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear to me today that he won’t slay his servant with the sword.

51 καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τῷ Σαλωμὼν λέγοντες Ἰδοὺ Ἀδωνίας ἐφοβήθη τὸν βασιλέα Σαλωμὼν καὶ κατέχει τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου λέγων Ὀμοσάτω μοι σήμερον ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν εἰ οὐ θανατώσει τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ.	51 καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τῷ Σαλωμὼν λέγοντες· ἰδοὺ Ἀδωνίας ἐφοβήθη τὸν βασιλέα Σαλωμὼν καὶ κατέχει τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου λέγων· ὀμοσάτω μοι σήμερον Σαλωμών, εἰ οὐ θανατώσει τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ.
51 And it was reported to Salōmōn, saying, “Look! Adōnias fears king Salōmōn, and holds the horns of the altar, saying, ‛Let king Salōmōn solemnly promise to me this day, that he won’t slay his servant with the sword.’ ”	51 And it was reported to Salōmōn, saying, “Look! 52 And Solomon said, If he will show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth; but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

52 καὶ εἶπεν Σαλωμὼν Ἐὰν γένηται εἰς υἱὸν δυνάμεως, εἰ πεσεῖται τῶν τριχῶν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν· καὶ ἐὰν κακία εὑρεθῇ ἐν αὐτῷ, θανατωθήσεται.	52 καὶ εἶπε Σαλωμών· ἐὰν γένηται εἰς υἱὸν δυνάμεων, εἰ πεσεῖται τῶν τριχῶν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν· καὶ ἐὰν κακία εὑρεθῇ ἐν αὐτῷ, θανατωθήσεται.

53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon; and Solomon said to him, Go to your house.

53 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν καὶ κατήνεγκεν αὐτὸν ἀπάνωθεν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου· καὶ εἰσῆλθεν καὶ προσεκύνησεν τῷ βασιλεῖ Σαλωμών, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Σαλωμὼν δεῦρο εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου.	53 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν καὶ κατήνεγκαν αὐτὸν ἀπάνωθεν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου· καὶ εἰσῆλθε καὶ προσεκύνησε τῷ βασιλεῖ Σαλωμών, καὶ εἶπε αὐτῷ Σαλωμών· δεῦρο εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου.
