I Kings

1 Now the days of David drew near that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,

וַיִּקְרְבוּ יְמֵי ־ דָוִד לָמוּת וַיְצַו אֶת ־ שְׁלֹמֹה בְנֹו לֵאמֹר׃

אָנֹכִי הֹלֵךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ כָּל ־ הָאָרֶץ וְחָזַקְתָּ וְהָיִיתָ לְאִישׁ׃

3 And keep the duties of Yahweh your Elohim, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do, and wherever you turn yourself.

וְשָׁמַרְתָּ אֶת ־ מִשְׁמֶרֶת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לָלֶכֶת בִּדְרָכָיו לִשְׁמֹר חֻקֹּתָיו מִצְוֹתָיו וּמִשְׁפָּטָיו וְעֵדְוֹתָיו כַּכָּתוּב בְּתֹורַת מֹשֶׁה לְמַעַן תַּשְׂכִּיל אֵת כָּל ־ אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשֶׂה וְאֵת כָּל ־ אֲשֶׁר תִּפְנֶה שָׁם׃

3 καὶ φυλάξεις τὴν φυλακὴν κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ σου τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ φυλάσσειν τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ δικαιώματα καὶ τὰ κρίματα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν νόμῳ Μωυσέως, ἵνα συνίῃς ἃ ποιήσεις κατὰ πάντα, ὅσα ἄν ἐντείλωμαί σοι,	3 καὶ φυλάξεις φυλακὴν Κυρίου Θεοῦ σου τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ, φυλάσσειν τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ δικαιώματα καὶ τὰ κρίματα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ νόμῳ Μωυσέως· ἵνα συνήσῃς ἃ ποιήσεις κατὰ πάντας, ὅσα ἄν ἐντείλωμαί σοι,

4 That Yahweh may continue his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If your children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you (said he) a man on the throne of Israēl.

לְמַעַן יָקִים יְהוָה אֶת ־ דְּבָרֹו אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר עָלַי לֵאמֹר אִם ־ יִשְׁמְרוּ בָנֶיךָ אֶת ־ דַּרְכָּם לָלֶכֶת לְפָנַי בֶּאֱמֶת בְּכָל ־ לְבָבָם וּבְכָל ־ נַפְשָׁם לֵאמֹר לֹא ־ יִכָּרֵת לְךָ אִישׁ מֵעַל כִּסֵּא יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

5 Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israēl, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.

וְגַם אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ אֵת אֲשֶׁר ־ עָשָׂה לִי יֹואָב בֶּן ־ צְרוּיָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לִשְׁנֵי ־ שָׂרֵי צִבְאֹות יִשְׂרָאֵל לְאַבְנֵר בֶּן ־ נֵר וְלַעֲמָשָׂא בֶן ־ יֶתֶר וַיַּהַרְגֵם וַיָּשֶׂם דְּמֵי ־ מִלְחָמָה בְּשָׁלֹם וַיִּתֵּן דְּמֵי מִלְחָמָה בַּחֲגֹרָתֹו אֲשֶׁר בְּמָתְנָיו וּבְנַעֲלֹו אֲשֶׁר בְּרַגְלָיו׃

6 Do therefore according to your wisdom, and don’t let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.

וְעָשִׂיתָ כְּחָכְמָתֶךָ וְלֹא ־ תֹורֵד שֵׂיבָתֹו בְּשָׁלֹם שְׁאֹל׃ ס

7 But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those who eat at your table; for so they came to me when I fled because of Absalom your brother.

וְלִבְנֵי בַרְזִלַּי הַגִּלְעָדִי תַּעֲשֶׂה ־ חֶסֶד וְהָיוּ בְּאֹכְלֵי שֻׁלְחָנֶךָ כִּי ־ כֵן קָרְבוּ אֵלַי בְּבָרְחִי מִפְּנֵי אַבְשָׁלֹום אָחִיךָ׃

7 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Βερζελλὶ τοῦ Γαλααδίτου ποιήσεις ἔλεος, καὶ ἔσονται ἐν τοῖς ἐσθίουσιν τὴν τράπεζάν σου, ὅτι οὕτως ἤγγισάν μοι ἐν τῷ με ἀποδιδράσκειν ἀπὸ προσώπου Ἀβεσσαλὼμ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου.	7 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Βερζελλὶ τοῦ Γαλααδίτου ποιήσεις ἔλεος, καὶ ἔσονται ἐν τοῖς ἐσθίουσι τὴν τράπεζάν σου, ὅτι οὕτως ἤγγισάν μοι ἐν τῷ με ἀποδιδράσκειν ἀπὸ προσώπου Ἀβεσσαλὼμ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου.

8 And, behold, you have with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I swore to him by Yahweh, saying, I won’t put you to death with the sword.

וְהִנֵּה עִמְּךָ שִׁמְעִי בֶן ־ גֵּרָא בֶן ־ הַיְמִינִי מִבַּחֻרִים וְהוּא קִלְלַנִי קְלָלָה נִמְרֶצֶת בְּיֹום לֶכְתִּי מַחֲנָיִם וְהוּא ־ יָרַד לִקְרָאתִי הַיַּרְדֵּן וָאֶשָּׁבַע לֹו בַיהוָה לֵאמֹר אִם ־ אֲמִיתְךָ בֶּחָרֶב׃

8 καὶ ἰδοὺ μετὰ σοῦ Σεμεῒ υἱὸς Γηρὰ υἱὸς τοῦ Ἰεμενὶ ἐκ Βαουρίμ, καὶ αὐτὸς κατηράσατό με κατάραν ὀδυνηρὰν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ, ᾗ ἐπορευόμην εἰς Παρεμβολάς, καὶ αὐτὸς κατέβη εἰς ἀπαντήν μου εἰς τὸν Ἰορδάνην, καὶ ὤμοσα αὐτῷ ἐν κυρίῳ λέγων Εἰ θανατώσω σὲ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ·	8 καὶ ἰδοὺ μετὰ σοῦ Σεμεῒ υἱὸς Γηρὰ υἱὸς τοῦ Ἰεμενὶ ἐκ Βαουρίμ, καὶ αὐτὸς κατηράσατό με κατάραν ὀδυνηρὰν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ, ᾗ ἐπορευόμην εἰς Παρεμβολάς, καὶ αὐτὸς κατέβη εἰς ἀπαντήν μου εἰς τὸν Ἰορδάνην, καὶ ὠμόσαμεν αὐτῷ ἐν Κυρίῳ λέγων· εἰ θανατώσω σε ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ·

9 Now therefore don’t hold him guiltless; for you are a wise man, and know what you anything to do to him; but bring down his gray head to the grave with blood.

וְעַתָּה אַל ־ תְּנַקֵּהוּ כִּי אִישׁ חָכָם אָתָּה וְיָדַעְתָּ אֵת אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשֶׂה ־ לֹּו וְהֹורַדְתָּ אֶת ־ שֵׂיבָתֹו בְּדָם שְׁאֹול׃

9 καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀθῳώσῃς αὐτόν, ὅτι ἀνὴρ σοφὸς εἶ σὺ καὶ γνώσῃ ἃ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ, καὶ κατάξεις τὴν πολιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐν αἵματι εἰς ᾅδου.	9 καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀθῳώσῃς αὐτόν, ὅτι ἀνὴρ σοφὸς εἶ σὺ καὶ γνώσῃ ἃ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ, καὶ κατάξεις τὴν πολιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐν αἵματι εἰς ᾅδου.

10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

וַיִּשְׁכַּב דָּוִד עִם ־ אֲבֹתָיו וַיִּקָּבֵר בְּעִיר דָּוִד׃ פ

11 And the days that David reigned over Israēl were 40 years: he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned 33 years in Jerusalem.

וְהַיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר מָלַךְ דָּוִד עַל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה בְּחֶבְרֹון מָלַךְ שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים וּבִירוּשָׁלִַם מָלַךְ שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשָׁלֹשׁ שָׁנִים׃

11 καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι ἃς ἐβασίλευσεν Δαυὶδ ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραήλ, τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη ἐν Χεβρὼν ἐβασίλευσεν ἔτη· ἑπτὰ καὶ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τριάκοντα τρία ἔτη.	11 καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι, ἃς ἐβασίλευσε Δαυὶδ ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη· ἐν Χεβρὼν ἐβασίλευσεν ἑπτὰ ἔτη καὶ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τριάκοντα τρία ἔτη.

12 Then Solomon sat on the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

וּשְׁלֹמֹה יָשַׁב עַל ־ כִּסֵּא דָּוִד אָבִיו וַתִּכֹּן מַלְכֻתֹו מְאֹד׃

12 καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ υἱὸς ἐτῶν δώδεκα, καὶ ἡτοιμάσθη ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ σφόδρα	12 Καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ θρόνου Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ υἱὸς ἐτῶν δώδεκα καὶ ἡτοιμάσθη ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ σφόδρα.

13 And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Do you come peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

וַיָּבֹא אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ בֶן ־ חַגֵּית אֶל ־ בַּת ־ שֶׁבַע אֵם ־ שְׁלֹמֹה וַתֹּאמֶר הֲשָׁלֹום בֹּאֶךָ וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁלֹום׃

13 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Ἀδωνίας υἱὸς Ἀγγὶθ πρὸς Βηρσαβεὲ μητέρα Σαλωμὼν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῇ. ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Εἰρήνη ἡ εἴσοδός σου; καὶ εἶπεν Εἰρήνη·	13 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Ἀδωνίας υἱὸς Ἀγγὶθ πρὸς Βηρσαβεὲ μητέρα Σαλωμὼν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῇ. ἡ δὲ εἶπεν· εἰρήνη ἡ εἴσοδός σου; καὶ εἶπεν· εἰρήνη·

14 He said moreover, I have somewhat to say to you. And she said, Say on.

וַיֹּאמֶר דָּבָר לִי אֵלָיִךְ וַתֹּאמֶר דַּבֵּר׃

15 And he said, You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israēl set their faces on me, that I should reign: however the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother’s; for it was his from Yahweh.

וַיֹּאמֶר אַתְּ יָדַעַתְּ כִּי ־ לִי הָיְתָה הַמְּלוּכָה וְעָלַי שָׂמוּ כָל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל פְּנֵיהֶם לִמְלֹךְ וַתִּסֹּב הַמְּלוּכָה וַתְּהִי לְאָחִי כִּי מֵיְהוָה הָיְתָה לֹּו׃

15 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ σὺ οἶδας ὅτι ἐμοὶ ἦν ἡ βασιλεία καὶ ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἔθετο πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ εἰς βασιλέα, καὶ ἐστράφη ἡ βασιλεία καὶ ἐγενήθη τῷ ἀδελφῷ μου, ὅτι παρὰ κυρίου ἐγένετο αὐτῷ·	15 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· σὺ οἶδας, ὅτι ἐμοὶ ἦν βασιλεία καὶ ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἔθετο πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ εἰς βασιλέα, καὶ ἐστράφη ἡ βασιλεία καὶ ἐγένετο τῷ ἀδελφῷ μου, ὅτι παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγενήθη αὐτῷ·

16 And now I ask one petition of you, don’t deny me. And she said to him, Say on.

16 καὶ νῦν αἴτησιν μίαν ἐγὼ αἰτοῦμαι παρὰ σοῦ, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Βηρσαβεὲ Λάλει.	16 καὶ νῦν αἴτησιν μίαν ἐγὼ αἰτοῦμαι παρὰ σοῦ, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Βηρσαβεέ· λάλει.

17 And he said, Speak, please, to Solomon the king, (for he won’t say no to you,) that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

וַיֹּאמֶר אִמְרִי ־ נָא לִשְׁלֹמֹה הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּי לֹא ־ יָשִׁיב אֶת ־ פָּנָיִךְ וְיִתֶּן ־ לִי אֶת ־ אֲבִישַׁג הַשּׁוּנַמִּית לְאִשָּׁה׃

17 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς Σαλωμὼν τὸν βασιλέα — ὅτι οὐκ ἀποστρέψει τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ σοῦ — καὶ δώσει μοι τὴν Ἀβισὰκ τὴν Σωμανῖτιν εἰς γυναῖκα.	17 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς Σαλωμὼν τὸν βασιλέα, ὅτι οὐκ ἀποστρέψει τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ σοῦ, καὶ δώσει μοι τὴν Ἀβισὰγ τὴν Σωμανῖτιν εἰς γυναῖκα.

19 Bath-sheba therefore went to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand.

וַתָּבֹא בַת ־ שֶׁבַע אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה לְדַבֶּר ־ לֹו עַל ־ אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ וַיָּקָם הַמֶּלֶךְ לִקְרָאתָהּ וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לָהּ וַיֵּשֶׁב עַל ־ כִּסְאֹו וַיָּשֶׂם כִּסֵּא לְאֵם הַמֶּלֶךְ וַתֵּשֶׁב לִימִינֹו׃

19 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Βηρσαβεὲ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Σαλωμὼν λαλῆσαι αὐτῷ περὶ Ἀδωνίου. καὶ ἐξανέστη ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς ἀπαντὴν αὐτῇ καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐτέθη θρόνος τῇ μητρὶ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ.	19 καὶ εἰσῆλθε Βηρσαβεὲ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Σαλωμὼν λαλῆσαι αὐτῷ περὶ Ἀδωνίου. καὶ ἐξανέστη ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς ἀπαντὴν αὐτῇ καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου, καὶ ἐτέθη θρόνος τῇ μητρὶ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ.

20 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Αἴτησιν μίαν μικρὰν ἐγὼ αἰτοῦμαι παρὰ σοῦ, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ βασιλεύς Αἴτησαι, μῆτερ ἐμή, ὅτι οὐκ ἀποστρέψω σε.	20 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· αἴτησιν μίαν μικρὰν ἐγὼ αἰτοῦμαι παρὰ σοῦ, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ βασιλεύς· αἴτησαι, μῆτερ ἐμή, καὶ οὐκ ἀποστρέψω σε.

21 καὶ εἶπεν Δοθήτω δὲ Ἀβισὰκ ἡ Σωμανῖτις τῷ Ἀδονία τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου εἰς γυναῖκα.	21 καὶ εἶπε· δοθήτω δὴ Ἀβισὰγ ἡ Σωμανῖτις τῷ Ἀδωνίᾳ τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου εἰς γυναῖκα.

וַיַּעַן הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה וַיֹּאמֶר לְאִמֹּו וְלָמָה אַתְּ שֹׁאֶלֶת אֶת ־ אֲבִישַׁג הַשֻּׁנַמִּית לַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ וְשַׁאֲלִי ־ לֹו אֶת ־ הַמְּלוּכָה כִּי הוּא אָחִי הַגָּדֹול מִמֶּנִּי וְלֹו וּלְאֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן וּלְיֹואָב בֶּן ־ צְרוּיָה׃ פ

22 καὶ εἶπε· δοθήτω δὴ Ἀβισὰγ ἡ Σωμανῖτις τῷ Ἀδωνίᾳ τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου εἰς γυναῖκα. καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Σαλωμὼν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ εἶπεν τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ Καὶ ἵνα τί σὺ ᾔτησαι τὴν Ἀβισὰκ τῷ Ἀδονία; καὶ αἴτησαι αὐτῷ τὴν βασιλείαν, ὅτι οὗτος ἀδελφός μου ὁ μέγας ὑπὲρ ἐμέ, καὶ αὐτῷ Ἀβιαθὰρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ αὐτῷ Ἰωὰβ ὁ υἱὸς Σαρουίας ὁ ἀρχιστράτηγος ἑταῖρος.	22 καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν καὶ εἶπε τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἱνατί σὺ ᾔτησαι τὴν Ἀβισὰγ τῷ Ἀδωνίᾳ; καὶ αἴτησαι αὐτῷ τὴν βασιλείαν, ὅτι οὗτος ἀδελφός μου ὁ μέγας ὑπὲρ ἐμέ, καὶ αὐτῷ Ἀβιάθαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ αὐτῷ Ἰωὰβ υἱὸς Σαρουΐας ἀρχιστράτηγος ἑταῖρος.
22 And she said, “therefore give Abisag the Sōmanitis to Adōnia your brother for a wife.” And king Salōmōn then answered and said to his mother, “And why have you asked Abisak for Adonias? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother, and he has for his companion Abiathar the priest, and Joab the son of Sarouias the commander-in-chief.”	22 And king Salōmōn answered and said to his mother, “And why have you asked Abisag for Adōnias? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother, and he has for his companion Abiathar the priest, and Joab the son of Sarouias the commander-in-chief.”

23 Then king Solomon swore by Yahweh, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah hasn’t spoken this word against his own life.

וַיִּשָּׁבַע הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה בַּיהוָה לֵאמֹר כֹּה יַעֲשֶׂה ־ לִּי אֱלֹהִים וְכֹה יֹוסִיף כִּי בְנַפְשֹׁו דִּבֶּר אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ אֶת ־ הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה׃

23 καὶ ὤμοσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγων Τάδε ποιήσαι μοι ὁ θεὸς καὶ τάδε προσθείη, ὅτι κατὰ τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ἐλάλησεν Ἀδωνίας τὸν λόγον τοῦτον·	23 καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν καὶ εἶπε τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἱνατί σὺ ᾔτησαι τὴν Ἀβισὰγ τῷ Ἀδωνίᾳ; καὶ αἴτησαι αὐτῷ τὴν βασιλείαν, ὅτι οὗτος ἀδελφός μου ὁ μέγας ὑπὲρ ἐμέ, καὶ αὐτῷ Ἀβιάθαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ αὐτῷ Ἰωὰβ υἱὸς Σαρουΐας ἀρχιστράτηγος ἑταῖρος.

24 Now therefore, as Yahweh lives, who has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

וְעַתָּה חַי ־ יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר הֱכִינַנִי וַיֹּושִׁיבִינִי עַל ־ כִּסֵּא דָּוִד אָבִי וַאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה ־ לִי בַּיִת כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר כִּי הַיֹּום יוּמַת אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ׃

24 καὶ νῦν ζῇ κύριος, ὃς ἡτοίμασέν με καὶ ἔθετό με ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ αὐτὸς ἐποίησέν μοι οἶκον, καθὼς ἐλάλησεν κύριος, ὅτι σήμερον θανατωθήσεται Ἀδωνίας.	24 καὶ νῦν ζῇ Κύριος, ὃς ἡτοίμασέ με καὶ ἔθετό με ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐποίησέ μοι οἶκον, καθὼς ἐλάλησε Κύριος, ὅτι σήμερον θανατωθήσεται Ἀδωνίας.

25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell on him that he died.

25 καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν Σαλωμὼν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν χειρὶ Βαναίου υἱοῦ Ἰωδαὲ καὶ ἀνεῖλεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀπέθανεν Ἀδωνίας ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.	25 καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν ἐν χειρὶ Βαναίου υἱοῦ Ἰωδαὲ καὶ ἀνεῖλεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀπέθανεν Ἀδωνίας ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.

וּלְאֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן אָמַר הַמֶּלֶךְ עֲנָתֹת לֵךְ עַל ־ שָׂדֶיךָ כִּי אִישׁ מָוֶת אָתָּה וּבַיֹּום הַזֶּה לֹא אֲמִיתֶךָ כִּי ־ נָשָׂאתָ אֶת ־ אֲרֹון אֲדֹנָי יְהֹוִה לִפְנֵי דָּוִד אָבִי וְכִי הִתְעַנִּיתָ בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר ־ הִתְעַנָּה אָבִי׃

26 καὶ τῷ Ἀβιαθὰρ τῷ ἱερεῖ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Ἀπότρεχε σὺ εἰς Ἀναθὼθ εἰς ἀγρόν σου, ὅτι ἀνὴρ θανάτου εἶ σὺ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ, καὶ οὐ θανατώσω σε, ὅτι ἦρας τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου ἐνώπιον τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ ὅτι ἐκακουχήθης ἐν ἅπασιν, οἷς ἐκακουχήθη ὁ πατήρ μου.	26 Καὶ τῷ Ἀβιάθαρ τῷ ἱερεῖ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς· ἀπότρεχε σὺ εἰς Ἀναθὼθ εἰς ἀγρόν σου, ὅτι ἀνὴρ θανάτου εἶ σὺ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ, καὶ οὐ θανατώσω σε, ὅτι ᾖρας τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης Κυρίου ἐνώπιον τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ ὅτι ἐκακουχήθης ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐκακουχήθη ὁ πατήρ μου.

27 So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest to Yahweh; that he might fulfill the word of Yahweh, which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

וַיְגָרֶשׁ שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת ־ אֶבְיָתָר מִהְיֹות כֹּהֵן לַיהוָה לְמַלֵּא אֶת ־ דְּבַר יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר עַל ־ בֵּית עֵלִי בְּשִׁלֹה׃ פ

27 καὶ ἐξέβαλεν Σαλωμὼν τὸν Ἀβιαθὰρ τοῦ μὴ εἶναι ἱερέα τοῦ κυρίου, πληρωθῆναι τὸ ῥῆμα κυρίου, ὃ ἐλάλησεν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Ἠλὶ ἐν Σηλώμ.	27 καὶ ἐξέβαλε Σαλωμὼν τὸν Ἀβιάθαρ τοῦ μὴ εἶναι ἱερέα τοῦ Κυρίου, πληρωθῆναι τὸ ῥῆμα Κυρίου, ὃν ἐλάλησεν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Ἡλὶ ἐν Σηλώμ.

28 Then tidings came to Joab; for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he didn’t turn after Absalom. And Joab fled to the tent of Yahweh, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

וְהַשְּׁמֻעָה בָּאָה עַד ־ יֹואָב כִּי יֹואָב נָטָה אַחֲרֵי אֲדֹנִיָּה וְאַחֲרֵי אַבְשָׁלֹום לֹא נָטָה וַיָּנָס יֹואָב אֶל ־ אֹהֶל יְהוָה וַיַּחֲזֵק בְּקַרְנֹות הַמִּזְבֵּחַ׃

28 καὶ ἡ ἀκοὴ ἦλθεν ἕως Ἰωὰβ τοῦ υἱοῦ Σαρουίας (ὅτι Ἰωὰβ ἦν κεκλικὼς ὀπίσω Ἀδωνίου καὶ ὀπίσω Σαλωμὼν οὐκ ἔκλινεν), καὶ ἔφυγεν Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὸ σκήνωμα τοῦ κυρίου καὶ κατέσχεν τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου.	28 καὶ ἡ ἀκοὴ ἦλθεν ἕως Ἰωὰβ υἱοῦ Σαρουΐας (ὅτι Ἰωὰβ ἦν κεκλικὼς ὀπίσω Ἀδωνίου, καὶ ὀπίσω Σαλωμὼν οὐκ ἔκλινε), καὶ ἔφυγεν Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὸ σκήνωμα τοῦ Κυρίου καὶ κατέσχε τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου.

וַיֻּגַּד לַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה כִּי נָס יֹואָב אֶל ־ אֹהֶל יְהוָה וְהִנֵּה אֵצֶל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וַיִּשְׁלַח שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת ־ בְּנָיָהוּ בֶן ־ יְהֹויָדָע לֵאמֹר לֵךְ פְּגַע ־ בֹּו׃

29 καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Σαλωμὼν λέγοντες ὅτι Ἔφυγεν Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ κυρίου καὶ ἰδοὺ κατέχει τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου. καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Σαλωμὼν πρὸς Ἰωὰβ λέγων Τί γέγονέν σοι, ὅτι πέφευγας εἰς τὸ θυσιαστήριον; καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωὰβ Ὅτι ἐφοβήθην ἀπὸ προσώπου σου, καὶ ἔφυγον πρὸς κύριον. καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Σαλωμὼν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Βαναίου υἱὸν Ἰωδαὲ λέγων Πορεύου καὶ ἄνελε αὐτὸν καὶ θάψον αὐτόν.	29 καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Σαλωμὼν λέγοντες ὅτι πέφυκεν Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ Κυρίου καὶ ἰδοὺ κατέχει τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου. καὶ ἀπέστειλε Σαλωμὼν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Ἰωὰβ λέγων· τί γέγονέ σοι, ὅτι πέφευγας εἰς τὸ θυσιαστήριον; καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωάβ· ὅτι ἐφοβήθην ἀπὸ προσώπου σου, καὶ ἔφυγον πρὸς Κύριον. καὶ ἀπέστειλε Σαλωμὼν τὸν Βαναίου υἱὸν Ἰωδαὲ λέγων· πορεύου καὶ ἄνελε αὐτὸν καὶ θάψον αὐτόν.
29 And it was told Salōmōn, saying, “Jōab has fled to the tent of the Lord, and look! he has held on the horns of the altar.” And king Salōmōn sent to Jōab, saying, “What ails you, that you have fled to the altar?” and Jōab said, “Because I was afraid of you, and fled for refuge to the Lord.” And Salōmōn sent Banaias son of Jōdae, saying, “Go and slay him, and bury him.”	29 And it was told Salōmōn, saying, “Jōab has fled to the tent of the Lord, and look! he has held on the horns of the altar.” And king Salōmōn sent to Jōab, saying, “What ails you, that you have fled to the altar?” and Jōab said, “Because I was afraid of you, and fled for refuge to the Lord.” And Salōmōn sent Banaias son of Jōdae, saying, “Go and slay him, and bury him.”

30 And Benaiah came to the tent of Yahweh, and said to him, Thus says the king, Come forth. And he said, No; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

וַיָּבֹא בְנָיָהוּ אֶל ־ אֹהֶל יְהוָה וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו כֹּה ־ אָמַר הַמֶּלֶךְ צֵא וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא כִּי פֹה אָמוּת וַיָּשֶׁב בְּנָיָהוּ אֶת ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּבָר לֵאמֹר כֹּה ־ דִבֶּר יֹואָב וְכֹה עָנָנִי׃

30 And Banaias son of Jōdae came to Jōab to the tent of the Lord, and said to him, “Thus says the king, ‛Come forth. ’ ” And Jōab said,“I won’t come forth, for I will die here.” And Banaias son of Jōdae returned and spoke to the king, saying, “Thus has Jōab spoken, and thus has he answered me.”	30 And Banaias son of Jōdae came to Jōab to the tent of the Lord, and said to him, “Thus says the king, ‛Come forth. ’ ” And Jōab said, “I won’t come forth, for I will die here.” And Banaias son of Jōdae returned and spoke to the king, saying, “Thus has Jōab spoken, and thus has he answered me.”

31 And the king said to him, Do as he has said, and fall on him, and bury him; that you may take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.

וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו הַמֶּלֶךְ עֲשֵׂה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר וּפְגַע ־ בֹּו וּקְבַרְתֹּו וַהֲסִירֹתָ דְּמֵי חִנָּם אֲשֶׁר שָׁפַךְ יֹואָב מֵעָלַי וּמֵעַל בֵּית אָבִי׃

וְשָׁבוּ דְמֵיהֶם בְּרֹאשׁ יֹואָב וּבְרֹאשׁ זַרְעֹו לְעֹלָם וּלְדָוִד וּלְזַרְעֹו וּלְבֵיתֹו וּלְכִסְאֹו יִהְיֶה שָׁלֹום עַד ־ עֹולָם מֵעִם יְהוָה׃

35-2 καὶ ἐπληθύνθη ἡ φρόνησις Σαλωμὼν πάντων ἀρχαίων υἱῶν καὶ ὑπὲρ πάντας φρονίμους Αἰγύπτου.	35-2 And the wisdom of Salōmōn abounded exceedingly beyond the wisdom of all the ancients, and beyond all the wise men of Egypt.
35-3 καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν θυγατέρα Φαραώ, καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὴν εἰς τὴν πόλιν Δαυεὶδ ἕως συντελέσαι αὐτὸν τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου ἐν πρώτοις καὶ τὸ τεῖχος Ἰερουσαλὴμ κυκλόθεν· ἐν ἑπτὰ ἔτεσιν ἐποίησεν καὶ συνετέλεσεν.	35-3 and he took the daughter of Pharao, and brought her into the city of David, until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the Lord first, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. In seven years he made and finished them.
35-4 καὶ ἦν τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες αἴροντες ἄρσιν καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες λατόμων ἐν τῷ ὄρει.	35-4 And Salōmōn had 70,000 bearers of burdens, and 8000 hewers of stone in the mountain.
35-5 καὶ ἐποίησεν Σαλωμὼν τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ τὰ ὑποστηρίγματα καὶ τοὺς λουτῆρας τοὺς μεγάλους καὶ τοὺς στύλους καὶ τὴν κρήνην τῆς αὐλῆς καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν χαλκῆν. καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν τὴν ἄκραν ἔπαλξιν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς. διέκοψεν τὴν πόλιν Δαυείδ.	35-5 and Salōmōn made the sea, and the bases, and the great lavers, and the pillars, and the fountain of the court, and the copper-alloy sea; and he built the citadel as a defence above it, he made a breach in the wall of the city of David.

35-8 καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες οἱ κατεσταμένοι ἐπὶ τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Σαλωμών· τρεῖς χιλιάδες καὶ ἑξακόσιοι ἐπιστάται τοῦ λαοῦ τῶν ποιούντων τὰ ἔργα.	35-8 And these are the chief persons who presided over the works of Salōmōn; 3600 masters of the people who did the work.

35-13 οὗτος κατηράσατό με κατάραν ὀδυνηρὰν ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐπορευόμην εἰς παρεμβολάς·	35-13 he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went into the camp;
35-14 καὶ αὐτὸς κατέβαινεν εἰς ἀπαντήν μοι ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰορδάνην, καὶ ὤμοσα αὐτῷ κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγων Εἰ θανατωθήσεται ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ·	35-14 and he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, ‛He shall not be slain with the sword.’
35-15 καὶ νῦν μὴ ἀθῳώσῃς αὐτόν, ὅτι ἀνὴρ φρόνιμος σύ, καὶ γνώσῃ ἃ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ· καὶ κατάξεις τὴν πολιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐν αἵματι εἰς ᾅδου.	35-15 But now don’t you hold him guiltless, for you are a man of understanding, and you will know what you shall do to him, and you shall bring down his grey hairs with blood to the grave.”

36 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Build a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and don’t go forth from there to anywhere.

וַיִּשְׁלַח הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּקְרָא לְשִׁמְעִי וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו בְּנֵה ־ לְךָ בַיִת בִּירוּשָׁלִַם וְיָשַׁבְתָּ שָׁם וְלֹא ־ תֵצֵא מִשָּׁם אָנֶה וָאָנָה׃

36 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Σεμεῒ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Οἰκοδόμησον σεαυτῷ οἶκον ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ κάθου ἐκεῖ καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ ἐκεῖθεν οὐδαμοῦ·	36 N/A

37 καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆς ἐξόδου σου καὶ διαβήσῃ τὸν χειμάρρουν Κεδρών, γινώσκων γνώσῃ ὅτι θανάτῳ ἀποθανῇ, τὸ αἷμά σου ἔσται ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλήν σου. καὶ ὥρκισεν αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.	37 N/A

וַיָּקָם שִׁמְעִי וַיַּחֲבֹשׁ אֶת ־ חֲמֹרֹו וַיֵּלֶךְ גַּתָה אֶל ־ אָכִישׁ לְבַקֵּשׁ אֶת ־ עֲבָדָיו וַיֵּלֶךְ שִׁמְעִי וַיָּבֵא אֶת ־ עֲבָדָיו מִגַּת׃

40 καὶ ἀνέστη Σεμεῒ καὶ ἐπέσαξε τὴν ὄνον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς Γὲθ πρὸς Ἀγχοὺς τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπορεύθη Σεμεῒ καὶ ἤγαγεν τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ἐκ Γέθ.	40 N/A
