8:1 On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews’ enemy to Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her.

8:2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
8:2 ἔλαβεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν δακτύλιον, ὃν ἀφείλατο Ἀμάν, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν Μαρδοχαίῳ, καὶ κατέστησεν Ἐσθὴρ Μαρδοχαῖον ἐπὶ πάντων τῶν Ἀμάν. | 8:2 καὶ ἀφεῖλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ δακτύλιον ἀπὸ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐσφραγίσθη ἐν αὐτῷ ὁ βίος αὐτοῦ. |
8:2 And the king took the ring which he had taken away from Aman, and gave it to Mardochaios; and Esther appointed Mardochaios over all that had been Aman’s. | 8:2 And the king removed the signet ring from his hand, and his life was sealed with it. |
8:3 And Esther spoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.

8:3 And she spoke yet again to the king, and fell at his feet, and besought him to do away the mischief of Aman, and all that he had done against the Jews. | 8:3 And the king said to Esther, “He even planned to hang Mardochaios, who saved me from the hand of the eunuchs? Did he not know that Esther is of his race?” |
8:4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king,
8:4 ἐξέτεινεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἐσθὴρ τὴν ῥάβδον τὴν χρυσῆν, ἐξηγέρθη δὲ Ἐσθὴρ παρεστηκέναι τῷ βασιλεῖ. | 8:4 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ ἐχαρίσατο αὐτῷ πάντα τὰ τοῦ Ἁμάν. |
8:4 Then the king stretched out to Esther the golden sceptre; and Esther arose to stand near the king. | 8:4 So the king called Mardochaios and granted him all that belonged to Haman. |
8:5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king’s provinces.
8:5 καὶ εἶπεν Ἐσθὴρ εἰ δοκεῖ σοί καὶ εὗρον χάριν, πεμφθήτω ἀποστραφῆναι τὰ γράμματα τὰ ἀπεσταλμένα ὑπὸ Ἀμὰν τὰ γραφέντα ἀπολέσθαι τοὺς Ἰουδαίους, οἵ εἰσιν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ σου· | 8:5

Τί
θέλεις; καὶ ποιήσω σοι. καὶ εἶπε Μαρδοχαῖος Ὅπως ἀνέλῃς τὴν ἐπιστολὴν τοῦ Ἁμάν. |
8:5 And Esther said, If it seem good to you, and I have found favour in your sight, let an order be sent that the letters sent by Aman may be reversed, that were written for the destruction of the Jews, who are in your kingdom. | 8:5 And he said to him, “What do you want? I will do it for you.” And Mardochaios said, “That you revoke Haman’s letter.” |
8:6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?
8:6 πῶς γὰρ δυνήσομαι ἰδεῖν τὴν κάκωσιν τοῦ λαοῦ μου καὶ πῶς δυνήσομαι σωθῆναι ἐν τῇ ἀπωλείᾳ τῆς πατρίδος μου; | 8:6 καὶ ἐνεχείρισεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεὺς τὰ κατὰ τὴν βασιλείαν. |
8:6 For how shall I be able to look on the affliction of my people, and how shall I be able to survive the destruction of my kindred? | 8:6 So the king entrusted to him the affairs of the kingdom. |
8:7 Then the king Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged on the gallows, because he laid his hand on the Jews.
8:7 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Ἐσθὴρ εἰ πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα Ἀμὰν ἔδωκα καὶ ἐχαρισάμην σοί καὶ αὐτὸν ἐκρέμασα ἐπὶ ξύλου, ὅτι τὰς χεῖρας ἐπήνεγκε τοῖς ἰουδαίοις, τί ἔτι ἐπιζητεῖς; | 8:7 καὶ εἶπεν Ἐσθὴρ τῷ βασιλεῖ τῇ ἑξῆς Δός μοι κολάσαι τοὺς ἐχθρούς μου φόνῳ. |
8:7 And the king said to Esther, If I have given and freely granted you all that was Aman’s, and hanged him on a gallows, because he laid his hands on the Jews, what do you yet further seek? | 8:7 Then Esther said to the king on the next day, “Allow me to punish my enemies with murder.” |
8:8 Write also for the Jews, as it likes you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring; for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.
8:8 γράψατε καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ ὀνόματός μου ὡς δοκεῖ ὑμῖν καὶ σφραγίσατε τῷ δακτυλίῳ μου· ὅσα γὰρ γράφεται τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπιτάξαντος καὶ σφραγισθῇ τῷ δακτυλίῳ μου, οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἀντειπεῖν. | 8:8

8:8 Write also in my name, as it seems good to you, and seal it with my ring; for whatever orders are written at the command of the king, and sealed with my ring, it is not lawful to gainsay them. | 8:8 So Queen Esther appealed to the king also against Haman’s children, that they too should die with their father. And the king said, “Let it be done.” |
8:9 Then were the king’s scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the 23rd day of it; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India to Ethiopia, 127 provinces, to every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
8:9 ἐκλήθησαν δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς ἐν τῷ πρώτῳ μηνί, ὅς ἐστι Νισά, τρίτῃ καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ αὐτοῦ ἔτους, καὶ ἐγράφη τοῖς ἰουδαίοις ὅσα ἐνετείλατο τοῖς οἰκονόμοις καὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσιν τῶν σατραπῶν ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰνδικῆς ἕως τῆς Αἰθιοπίας, ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτὰ σατραπείαις κατὰ χώραν καὶ χώραν, κατὰ τὴν ἑαυτῶν λέξιν. | 8:9 καὶ ἐπάταξε τοὺς ἐχθροὺς εἰς πλῆθος. |
8:9 So the scribes were called in the first-month, which is Nisan, on the 23rd day of the same year; and orders were written to the Jews, whatever the king had commanded to the local governors and chiefs of the satraps, from India even to Ethiopia, 127 satraps, according to the several provinces, according to their dialects. | 8:9 So she struck the enemies in great numbers. |
8:10 And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus’ name, and sealed it with the king’s ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries.

8:10 And they were written by order of the king, and sealed with his ring, and they sent the letters by the posts. | 8:10 And in Susa the king made an agreement with the queen to kill men, and he said, “Behold, I give them to you to hang.” And so it was done. |
8:11 Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,

14 So the horsemen went forth with haste to perform the king’s commands; and the ordinance was also published in Susa. | 14 And a public notice containing these king authorized Mardochaios to write whatever he wished. So Mardochaios sent out letters and sealed them with the king’s signet ring, saying that his people should each remain in their own land and celebrate a feast to God. And the letter which Mardochaios sent contained these things. “Haman sent to you letters containing thus, ‘Hasten quickly to send the disobedient nation of the Judeans to me for destruction.’ But I, Mardochaios, inform you that the one who did this has been hung at the gates of Susa, and his household has been despatched. For this one wished to kill us on the thirteenth of the month that is Adar.’ ” |
15 And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.

17 And in every province, and in every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell on them.
17 κατὰ πόλιν καὶ χώραν, οὗ ἄν ἐξετέθη τὸ πρόσταγμα, οὗ ἄν ἐξετέθη τὸ ἔκθεμα, χαρὰ καὶ εὐφροσύνη τοῖς ἰουδαίοις, κώθων καὶ εὐφροσύνη, καὶ πολλοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν περιετέμοντο καὶ ἰουδάιζον διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ἰουδαίων. | 17 καὶ πολλοὶ τῶν Ἰουδαίων περιετέμνοντο, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπανέστη αὐτοῖς· ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ αὐτούς. |
17 in every city and province wherever the ordinance was published: wherever the proclamation took place, the Jews had joy and gladness, feasting and mirth; and many of the Gentiles were circumcised, and became Jews, for fear of the Jews. | 17 And many of the Judeans were circumcised, and no one rose up against them.
