Esther

7:1  So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.

7:1 εἰσῆλθεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ Ἀμὰν συμπιεῖν τῇ βασιλίσσῃ.	7:1 N/A

7:2  And the king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is your petition, queen Esther? And it shall be granted you; and what is your request? And it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom.

7:2 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἐσθὴρ τῇ δευτέρᾳ ἡμέρᾳ ἐν τῷ πότῳ τί ἐστιν, Ἐσθὴρ βασίλισσα, καὶ τί τὸ αἴτημά σου καὶ τί τὸ ἀξίωμά σου; καὶ ἔστω σοί ἕως τοῦ ἡμίσους τῆς βασιλείας μου.	7:2 ὡς δὲ προῆγεν ἡ πρόποσις εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τῇ Ἐσθήρ Τί ἐστιν ὁ κίνδυνος καὶ τί τὸ αἴτημά σου; ἕως τοῦ ἡμίσους τῆς βασιλείας μου. καὶ ἠγωνίασεν Ἐσθὴρ ἐν τῷ ἀπαγγέλλειν, ὅτι ὁ ἀντίδικος ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτῆς, καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἔδωκεν αὐτῇ θάρσος ἐν τῷ αὐτὴν ἐπικαλεῖσθαι αὐτόν.
7:2 And the king said to Esther at the banquet on the second day, What is it, queen Esther? And what is your request, and what is your petition? And it shall be done for you, to the half of my kingdom.	7:2 As the drinking advanced, the king said to Esther, “What is the danger, and what is your petition? Up to the half of my kingdom!” Esther struggled with her reply, because the adversary was before her eyes, and God gave her courage as she called on him.

7:3  Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in your sight, Oh king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.

7:3 καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα εἶπεν εἰ εὗρον χάριν ἐνώπιον τοῦ βασιλέως, δοθήτω ἡ ψυχή μου τῷ αἰτήματί μου καὶ ὁ λαός μου τῷ ἀξιώματί μου·	7:3 καὶ εἶπεν Ἐσθὴρ Εἰ δοκεῖ τῷ βασιλεῖ, καὶ ἀγαθὴ ἡ κρίσις ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ, δοθήτω ὁ λαός μου τῷ αἰτήματί μου καὶ τὸ ἔθνος τῆς ψυχῆς μου.
7:3 And she answered and said, If I have found favour in the sight of the king, let my life be granted to my petition, and my people to my request.	7:3 And Esther said, “If it pleases the king and the decision is good in his heart, let my people be given for my petition, and my nation for my life.

7:4  For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy couldn’t countervail the king’s damage.

7:4 ἐπράθημεν γὰρ ἐγώ τε καὶ ὁ λαός μου εἰς ἀπώλειαν καὶ διαρπαγὴν καὶ δουλείαν, ἡμεῖς καὶ τὰ τέκνα ἡμῶν εἰς παῖδας καὶ παιδίσκας, καὶ παρήκουσα· οὐ γὰρ ἄξιος ὁ διάβολος τῆς αὐλῆς τοῦ βασιλέως.	7:4 ἐπράθημεν γὰρ ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ λαός μου εἰς δούλωσιν, καὶ τὰ νήπια αὐτῶν εἰς διαρπαγήν, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελον ἀπαγγεῖλαι, ἵνα μὴ λυπήσω τὸν κύριόν μου· ἐγένετο γὰρ μεταπεσεῖν τὸν ἄνθρωπον τὸν κακοποιήσαντα ἡμᾶς.
7:4 For both I and my people are sold for destruction, and pillage, and slavery; both we and our children for bondmen and bondwomen; and I consented not to it, for the slanderer is not worthy of the king’s palace.	7:4 For I and my people have been sold into slavery, and their young children as booty. But I did not want to tell you, lest I trouble my lord. For the man who did evil against us has changed his manner.”

7:5  Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said to Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?

7:5 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεύς τίς οὗτος, ὅστις ἐτόλμησεν ποιῆσαι τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο;

7:5 καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ εἶπεν Τίς ἐστιν οὗτος, ὅς ἐτόλμησε ταπεινώσαι τὸ σημεῖον τῆς βασιλείας μου ὥστε παρελθεῖν τὸν φόβον σου; ὡς δὲ εἶδεν ἡ βασίλισσα ὅτι δεινὸν ἐφάνη τῷ βασιλεῖ, καὶ μισοπονηρεῖ, εἶπεν Μὴ ὀργίζου, κύριε· ἱκανὸν γὰρ ὅτι ἔτυχον τοῦ ἱλασμοῦ σου· εὐωχοῦ, βασιλεῦ· αὔριον δὲ ποιήσω κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου. καὶ ὤμοσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῦ ἀπαγγεῖλαι αὐτὴν αὐτῷ τὸν ὑπερηφανευσάμενον τοῦ ποιῆσαι τοῦτο καὶ μετὰ ὅρκου ὑπέσχετο ποιῆσαι αὐτῇ ὃ ἂν βούληται.

7:5 And the king said, Who is this that has dared to do this thing?

7:5 Then the king became angry and said, “Who is this who dared to humiliate the sign of my rule so as to disregard fear of you?” When the queen saw that it seemed a grave offense to the king and that he hated evil, she said, “Do not be angry, lord, for it is enough that I have found your conciliation. Enjoy your meal, Oh King, and tomorrow I will do according to your word.” But the king swore that she must tell him who was so arrogant to do this, and with an oath he took it on himself to do for her whatever she wished.

7:6  And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

7:6 εἶπεν δὲ Ἐσθὴρ ἄνθρωπος ἐχθρὸς Ἀμὰν ὁ πονηρὸς οὗτος. Ἀμὰν δὲ ἐταράχθη ἀπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τῆς βασιλίσσης.	7:6 καὶ θαρσήσασα ἡ Ἐσθὴρ εἶπεν Ἁμὰν ὁ φίλος σου ὁ ψευδὴς οὑτοσί, ὁ πονηρὸς ἄνθρωπος οὗτος.
7:6 And Esther said, the adversary is Aman, this wicked man. Then Aman was troubled before the king and the queen.	7:6 So Esther was emboldened and said, “Haman, your Friend, is this liar, this evil man!”

7:7  And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden; and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.

7:7 ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς ἐξανέστη ἐκ τοῦ συμποσίου εἰς τὸν κῆπον· ὁ δὲ Ἀμὰν παρῃτεῖτο τὴν βασίλισσαν, ἑώρα γὰρ ἑαυτὸν ἐν κακοῖς ὄντα.	7:7 ἔκθυμος δὲ γενόμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ πλησθεὶς ὀργῆς ἀνεπήδησε καὶ ἦν περιπατῶν. καὶ ὁ Ἁμὰν ἐταράχθη καὶ προσέπεσεν ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας Ἐσθὴρ τῆς βασιλίσσης ἐπὶ τὴν κοίτην ἔτι ἀνακειμένης.
7:7 And the king rose up from the banquet to go into the garden; and Aman began to entreat the queen; for he saw that he was in an evil case.	7:7 The king, becoming angry and filled with rage, jumped up and was pacing around. And Haman was terrified and prostrated himself at the feet of Queen Esther as she still reclined on her couch.

7:8  Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen on the bed on which Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

7:8 ἐπέστρεψεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐκ τοῦ κήπου, Ἀμὰν δὲ ἐπιπεπτώκει ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην ἀξιῶν τὴν βασίλισσαν· εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεύς ὥστε καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα βιάζῃ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ μου; Ἀμὰν δὲ ἀκούσας διετράπη τῷ προσώπῳ.	7:8 καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐπέστρεψεν ἐπὶ τὸ συμπόσιον καὶ ἰδὼν εἶπεν Οὐχ ἱκανόν σοι ἡ ἁμαρτία τῆς βασιλείας, ἀλλὰ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκά μου ἐκβιάζῃ ἐνώπιόν μου; ἀπαχθήτω Ἁμὰν καὶ μὴ ζήτω. καὶ οὕτως ἀπήγετο.
7:8 And the king returned from the garden; and Aman had fallen on the bed, entreating the queen. And the king said, Will you even force my wife in my house? And when Aman heard it, he changed countenance.	7:8 Just then the king returned to the banquet, and when he saw this he said, “A crime against my kingdom is not enough for you? You also molest my wife in my presence? Let Haman be led away, and let him not live!” And so he was led away.

7:9  And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows 50 cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him on it.

7:9 εἶπεν δὲ Βουγαθὰν εἷς τῶν εὐνούχων πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα ἰδοὺ καὶ ξύλον ἡτοίμασεν Ἀμὰν Μαρδοχαίῳ τῷ λαλήσαντι περὶ τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ ὤρθωται ἐν τοῖς Ἀμὰν ξύλον πηχῶν πεντήκοντα. εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεύς σταυρωθήτω ἐπ’ αὐτοῦ.	7:9 καὶ εἶπεν Ἀγαθάς εἷς τῶν παίδων αὐτοῦ Ἰδοὺ ξύλον ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ αὐτοῦ πηχῶν πεντήκοντα, ὃ ἔκοψεν Ἁμὰν ἵνα κρεμάσῃ Μαρδοχαῖον τὸν λαλήσαντα ἀγαθὰ περὶ τοῦ βασιλέως· κέλευσον οὖν, κύριε, ἐπ’ αὐτῷ αὐτὸν κρεμασθῆναι. καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Κρεμασθήτω ἐπ’ αὐτῷ.
7:9 And Bugathan, one of the chamberlains, said to the king, Behold, Aman has also prepared a gallows for Mardochaios, who spoke concerning the king, and a gallows of 50 cubits high has been set up in the premises of Aman. And the king said, Let him be hanged thereon.	7:9 Then Agathas, one of his servants, said, “Look! A pole is in his courtyard fifty cubits tall, which Haman cut down to hang Mardochaios, the man who spoke good things concerning the king; therefore, lord, order that he himself be hanged on it.” So the king said, “Let him be hung on it.”

7:10  So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified.

7:10 καὶ ἐκρεμάσθη Ἀμὰν ἐπὶ τοῦ ξύλου, ὃ ἡτοίμασεν Μαρδοχαίῳ. καὶ τότε ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐκόπασεν τοῦ θυμοῦ.	7:10 N/A
7:10 So Aman was hanged on the gallows that had been prepared for Mardochaios; and then the king’s wrath was appeased.	7:10 N/A
