6:1  On that night couldn’t the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

בַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּא נָדְדָה שְׁנַת הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּאמֶר לְהָבִיא אֶת ־ סֵפֶר הַזִּכְרֹנֹות דִּבְרֵי הַיָּמִים וַיִּהְיוּ נִקְרָאִים לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ׃

6:1 δὲ κύριος ἀπέστησεν τὸν ὕπνον ἀπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην, καὶ εἶπεν τῷ διδασκάλῳ αὐτοῦ εἰσφέρειν γράμματα μνημόσυνα τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀναγινώσκειν αὐτῷ. 6:1 δὲ δυνατὸς ἀπέστησε τὸν ὕπνον τοῦ βασιλέως τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην, καὶ ἦν ἀγρυπνῶν.
καὶ ἐκλήθησαν οἱ ἀναγνῶσται, καὶ τὸ βιβλίον τῶν μνημοσυνῶν ἀνεγινώσκετο αὐτῷ,
6:1 But the Lord removed sleep from the king that night; and he told his servant to bring in the books, the registers of daily events, to read to him. 6:1 But the Mighty One kept sleep from the king that night, and he stayed awake. So the readers were called, and the court record was read to him.

6:2  And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.

וַיִּמָּצֵא כָתוּב אֲשֶׁר הִגִּיד מָרְדֳּכַי עַל ־ בִּגְתָנָא וָתֶרֶשׁ שְׁנֵי סָרִיסֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ מִשֹּׁמְרֵי הַסַּף אֲשֶׁר בִּקְשׁוּ לִשְׁלֹחַ יָד בַּמֶּלֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵרֹושׁ׃

6:2 εὗρεν δὲ τὰ γράμματα τὰ γραφέντα περὶ Μαρδοχαίου, ὡς ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ βασιλεῖ περὶ τῶν δύο εὐνούχων τοῦ βασιλέως ἐν τῷ φυλάσσειν αὐτοὺς καὶ ζητῆσαι ἐπιβαλεῖν τὰς χεῖρας Ἀρταξέρξῃ. 6:2 καὶ ἦν ὑπόθεσις τῶν εὐνούχων καὶ ἐποίησε Μαρδοχαῖος εὐεργέτημα τῷ βασιλεῖ.
καὶ ἐπέστησεν βασιλεὺς τὸν νοῦν σφόδρα λέγων Πιστὸς ἀνὴρ Μαρδοχαῖος εἰς παραφυλακὴν τῆς ψυχῆς μου, διότι αὐτὸς ἐποίησέ με ζῆν ἄχρι τοῦ νῦν, καὶ κάθημαι σήμερον ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησα αὐτῷ οὐθέν· οὐκ ὀρθῶς ἐποίησα.
6:2 And he found the records written concerning Mardochaios, how he had told the king concerning the two chamberlains of the king, when they were keeping guard, and sought to lay hands on Artaxerxes. 6:2 And there was the record of the eunuchs and what good deed Mardochaios had done for the king. And the king thought seriously on that matter, saying, “Mardochaios is a loyal man for protecting my life, for he has kept me alive even until now, and I am sitting on my throne today and have done nothing for him. I have not done right by him.”

6:3  And the king said, What honour and dignity has been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered to him, There is nothing done for him.

וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ מַה ־ נַּעֲשָׂה יְקָר וּגְדוּלָּה לְמָרְדֳּכַי עַל ־ זֶה וַיֹּאמְרוּ נַעֲרֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ מְשָׁרְתָיו לֹא ־ נַעֲשָׂה עִמֹּו דָּבָר׃

6:3 εἶπεν δὲ βασιλεύς τίνα δόξαν χάριν ἐποιήσαμεν τῷ Μαρδοχαίῳ;
καὶ εἶπαν οἱ διάκονοι τοῦ βασιλέως οὐκ ἐποίησας αὐτῷ οὐδέν.
6:3 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ Τί ποιήσωμεν τῷ Μαρδοχαίῳ τῷ σωτῆρι τῶν λόγων τούτων;
καὶ νοήσαντες οἱ νεανίσκοι διεφθόνουν αὐτῷ· ἐνέκειτο γὰρ φόβος Ἀμὰν ἐν τοῖς σπλάγχνοις αὐτῶν.
καὶ ἐνόησεν βασιλεύς.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὄρθρος.
6:3 And the king said, What honour or favour have we done to Mardochaios? And the king’s servants said, You haven’t done anything to him. 6:3 So the king said to his servants, “What should we do for Mardochaios, the savior in these matters?” And after they thought about it, the young men were envious of him, for fear of Haman lay in their bowels. And the king understood. And morning came.

6:4  And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman came into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak to the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ מִי בֶחָצֵר וְהָמָן בָּא לַחֲצַר בֵּית ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ הַחִיצֹונָה לֵאמֹר לַמֶּלֶךְ לִתְלֹות אֶת ־ מָרְדֳּכַי עַל ־ הָעֵץ אֲשֶׁר ־ הֵכִין לֹו׃

6:4 ἐν δὲ τῷ πυνθάνεσθαι τὸν βασιλέα περὶ τῆς εὐνοίας Μαρδοχαίου ἰδοὺ Ἀμὰν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ· εἶπεν δὲ βασιλεύς τίς ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ;
δὲ Ἀμὰν εἰσῆλθεν εἰπεῖν τῷ βασιλεῖ κρεμάσαι τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον ἐπὶ τῷ ξύλῳ, ἡτοίμασεν.
6:4 καὶ ἠρώτησεν βασιλεύς Τίς ἐστιν ἔξω;
καὶ ἦν Ἁμάν.
Ἀμὰν δὲ ὠρθρίκει λαλῆσαι τῷ βασιλεῖ, ἵνα κρεμάσῃ τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον.
6:4 And while the king was enquiring about the kindness of Mardochaios, behold, Aman was in the court. And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Aman came in to speak to the king, that he should hang Mardochaios on the gallows, which he had prepared. 6:4 The king asked, “Who is outside?” And it was Haman. Now Haman had come early to speak to the king so that he might hang Mardochaios.

6:5  And the king’s servants said to him, Behold, Haman stands in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

וַיֹּאמְרוּ נַעֲרֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֵלָיו הִנֵּה הָמָן עֹמֵד בֶּחָצֵר וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ יָבֹוא׃

6:5 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ διάκονοι τοῦ βασιλέως ἰδοὺ Ἀμὰν ἕστηκεν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ· καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεύς καλέσατε αὐτόν. 6:5 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς εἰσαγαγεῖν αὐτόν.
6:5 And the king’s servants said, Behold, Aman stands in the court. And the king said, Call him. 6:5 And the king said to bring him in.

6:6  So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

וַיָּבֹוא הָמָן וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו הַמֶּלֶךְ מַה ־ לַעֲשֹׂות בָּאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר הַמֶּלֶךְ חָפֵץ בִּיקָרֹו וַיֹּאמֶר הָמָן בְּלִבֹּו לְמִי יַחְפֹּץ הַמֶּלֶךְ לַעֲשֹׂות יְקָר יֹותֵר מִמֶּנִּי׃

6:6 εἶπεν δὲ βασιλεὺς τῷ Ἀμὰν τί ποιήσω τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ, ὃν ἐγὼ θέλω δοξάσαι;
εἶπεν δὲ ἐν ἑαυτῷ Ἀμὰν τίνα θέλει βασιλεὺς δοξάσαι εἰ μὴ ἐμέ;
6:6 ὡς δὲ εἰσῆλθεν, εἶπεν αὐτῷ βασιλεύς Τί ποιήσωμεν τῷ ἀνδρὶ τῷ τὸν βασιλέα τιμῶντι, ὃν βασιλεὺς βούλεται δοξάσαι;
καὶ ἐλογίσατο Ἁμὰν λέγων ὅτι Τίνα βούλεται βασιλεὺς δοξάσαι εἰ μὴ ἐμέ;
6:6 And the king said to Aman, What shall I do to the man whom I wish to honour? And Aman said within himself, Whom would the king honour but myself? 6:6 So as he entered, the king said to him, “What should we do for the man who honours the king, whom the king wishes to extol?” So Haman reasoned, saying, “Whom would the king wish to extol if not me?”

6:7  And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delights to honour,

וַיֹּאמֶר הָמָן אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר הַמֶּלֶךְ חָפֵץ בִּיקָרֹו׃

6:7 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα ἄνθρωπον, ὃν βασιλεὺς θέλει δοξάσαι, 6:7 καὶ εἶπεν Ἀμὰν Ἄνθρωπος, ὃν βασιλεὺς βούλεται δοξάσαι,
6:7 and he said to the king, As for the man whom the king wishes to honour, 6:7 So Haman replied, “For the person whom the king wishes to extol,

6:8  Let the royal apparel be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides upon, and the crown royal which is set on his head.

יָבִיאוּ לְבוּשׁ מַלְכוּת אֲשֶׁר לָבַשׁ ־ בֹּו הַמֶּלֶךְ וְסוּס אֲשֶׁר רָכַב עָלָיו הַמֶּלֶךְ וַאֲשֶׁר נִתַּן כֶּתֶר מַלְכוּת בְּרֹאשֹׁו׃

6:8 ἐνεγκάτωσαν οἱ παῖδες τοῦ βασιλέως στολὴν βυσσίνην, ἣν βασιλεὺς περιβάλλεται, καὶ ἵππον, ἐφ’ ὃν βασιλεὺς ἐπιβαίνει, 6:8 ληφθήτω στολὴ βασιλικὴν καὶ ἵππος βασιλικός, ἐφ’ ὃν βασιλεὺς ἐπιβαίνει,
6:8 let the king’s servants bring the robe of fine linen which the king puts on, and the horse on which the king rides, 6:8 let a royal robe be brought, and a royal horse on which the king rides.

6:9  And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man in addition whom the king delights to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honour.

וְנָתֹון הַלְּבוּשׁ וְהַסּוּס עַל ־ יַד ־ אִישׁ מִשָּׂרֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ הַפַּרְתְּמִים וְהִלְבִּישׁוּ אֶת ־ הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר הַמֶּלֶךְ חָפֵץ בִּיקָרֹו וְהִרְכִּיבֻהוּ עַל ־ הַסּוּס בִּרְחֹוב הָעִיר וְקָרְאוּ לְפָנָיו כָּכָה יֵעָשֶׂה לָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר הַמֶּלֶךְ חָפֵץ בִּיקָרֹו׃

6:9 καὶ δότω ἑνὶ τῶν φίλων τοῦ βασιλέως τῶν ἐνδόξων καὶ στολισάτω τὸν ἄνθρωπον, ὃν βασιλεὺς ἀγαπᾷ, καὶ ἀναβιβασάτω αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸν ἵππον καὶ κηρυσσέτω διὰ τῆς πλατείας τῆς πόλεως λέγων οὕτως ἔσται παντὶ ἀνθρώπῳ, ὃν βασιλεὺς δοξάζει. 6:9 καὶ εἷς τῶν ἐνδόξων, τῶν φίλων τοῦ βασιλέως, λαβέτω ταῦτα καὶ ἐνδυσάτω αὐτὸν καὶ ἀναβιβασάτω αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸν ἵππον καὶ περιελθέτω τὴν πόλιν ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ κηρύσσων Κατὰ τάδε ποιηθήσεται τῷ τὸν βασιλέα τιμῶντι, ὃν βασιλεὺς βούλεται δοξάσαι.
6:9 and let him give it to one of the king’s noble friends, and let him array the man whom the king loves; and let him mount him on the horse, and proclaim through the street of the city, saying, Thus shall it be done to every man whom the king honours. 6:9 And let one of the king’s most noble Friends take these things and clothe him, and let him mount him on the horse and go around the city before him proclaiming, ‘Thus shall be done for the one who honours the king, whom the king wishes to extol.’ ”

6:10  Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as you have said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sits at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.

וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ לְהָמָן מַהֵר קַח אֶת ־ הַלְּבוּשׁ וְאֶת ־ הַסּוּס כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ וַעֲשֵׂה ־ כֵן לְמָרְדֳּכַי הַיְּהוּדִי הַיֹּושֵׁב בְּשַׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ אַל ־ תַּפֵּל דָּבָר מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ׃

6:10 εἶπεν δὲ βασιλεὺς τῷ Ἀμὰν καθὼς ἐλάλησας, οὕτως ποίησον τῷ Μαρδοχαίῳ τῷ Ἰουδαίῳ τῷ θεραπεύοντι ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ, καὶ μὴ παραπεσάτω σου λόγος ὧν ἐλάλησας. 6:10 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς τῷ Ἁμάν Ταχὺ δράμε καὶ λάβε τὸν ἵππον καὶ στολὴν ὡς εἴρηκας καὶ ποίησον Μαρδοχαίῳ τῷ Ἰουδαίῳ τῷ καθημένῳ ἐν τῷ πυλῶνι, καὶ μὴ παραπεσάτω λόγος σου.
ὡς δὲ ἔγνω Ἁμὰν ὅτι οὐκ ἦν αὐτὸς δοξαζόμενος, ἀλλ’ ὅτι Μαρδοχαῖος, συνετρίβη καρδία αὐτοῦ σφόδρα, καὶ μετέβαλε τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐκλύσει.
6:10 Then the king said to Aman, You have well said, so do to Mardochaios the Jew, who waits in the palace, and don’t let a word of what you have spoken be neglected. 6:10 So the king said to Haman, “Run quickly, and take the horse and robe as you have said, and do so to Mardochaios the Judean who sits in the gateway. And let not your word transgressed.” Now when Haman realized that it was not he himself who would be extolled, but that it was Mardochaios, his heart was utterly broken, and his spirit became feeble.

6:11  Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honour.

וַיִּקַּח הָמָן אֶת ־ הַלְּבוּשׁ וְאֶת ־ הַסּוּס וַיַּלְבֵּשׁ אֶת ־ מָרְדֳּכָי וַיַּרְכִּיבֵהוּ בִּרְחֹוב הָעִיר וַיִּקְרָא לְפָנָיו כָּכָה יֵעָשֶׂה לָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר הַמֶּלֶךְ חָפֵץ בִּיקָרֹו׃

6:11 ἔλαβεν δὲ Ἀμὰν τὴν στολὴν καὶ τὸν ἵππον καὶ ἐστόλισεν τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ ἀνεβίβασεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸν ἵππον καὶ διῆλθεν διὰ τῆς πλατείας τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐκήρυσσεν λέγων οὕτως ἔσται παντὶ ἀνθρώπῳ, ὃν βασιλεὺς θέλει δοξάσαι. 6:11 καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἁμὰν τὴν στολὴν καὶ τὸν ἵππον ἐντρεπόμενος τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον, καθότι ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκεκρίκει ἀνασκολοπίσαι αὐτόν, καὶ εἶπε τῷ Μαρδοχαίῳ Περιελοῦ τὸν σάκκον.
καὶ ἐταράχθη Μαρδοχαῖος ὡς ἀποθνῄσκων καὶ ἀπεδύσατο μετ’ ὀδύνης τὸν σάκκον καὶ ἐνεδύσατο ἱμάτια δόξης.
καὶ ἐδόκει Μαρδοχαῖος τέρας θεωρεῖν, καὶ καρδία αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν κύριον, καὶ ἐξίστατο ἐν ἀφασίᾳ.
καὶ ἔσπευσεν Ἁμὰν ἀναλαβεῖν αὐτὸν ἔφιππον.
καὶ ἐξήγαγεν Ἁμὰν τὸν ἵππον ἔξω καὶ προσήγαγεν αὐτὸν Κατὰ τάδε ποιηθήσεται τῷ ἀνδρὶ τῷ τὸν βασιλέα τιμῶντι, ὃν βασιλεὺς βούλεται δοξάσαι.
6:11 So Aman took the robe and the horse, and arrayed Mardochaios, and mounted him on the horse, and went through the street of the city, and proclaimed, saying, Thus shall it be to every man whom the king wishes to honour. 6:11 And Haman took the robe and the horse, showing reverence to Mardochaios even on the very same day on which he intended to impale him. And he said to Mardochaios, “Tear off the sackcloth.” And Mardochaios was distressed as one dying, and with anguish he took off the sackcloth and put on the garments of glory. And Mardochaios thought he saw a sign, and his heart was toward the Lord, and he was mystified in silent fear. And Haman hurried to put him on horseback. And Haman led the horse outside and went before him proclaiming, “Thus shall it be done for the man who honours the king, whom the king wishes to extol.”

6:12  And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hurried to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

וַיָּשָׁב מָרְדֳּכַי אֶל ־ שַׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהָמָן נִדְחַף אֶל ־ בֵּיתֹו אָבֵל וַחֲפוּי רֹאשׁ׃

6:12 ἐπέστρεψεν δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος εἰς τὴν αὐλήν, Ἀμὰν δὲ ὑπέστρεψεν εἰς τὰ ἴδια λυπούμενος κατὰ κεφαλῆς. 6:12 καὶ μὲν Ἀμὰν ἀπῆλθε πρὸς ἑαυτὸν ἐσκυθρωπωμένος, δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ.
6:12 And Mardochaios returned to the palace; but Aman went home mourning, and having his head covered. 6:12 And so Haman went to his place downhearted, and Mardochaios went to his home.

6:13  And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife to him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him.

וַיְסַפֵּר הָמָן לְזֶרֶשׁ אִשְׁתֹּו וּלְכָל ־ אֹהֲבָיו אֵת כָּל ־ אֲשֶׁר קָרָהוּ וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹו חֲכָמָיו וְזֶרֶשׁ אִשְׁתֹּו אִם מִזֶּרַע הַיְּהוּדִים מָרְדֳּכַי אֲשֶׁר הַחִלֹּותָ לִנְפֹּל לְפָנָיו לֹא ־ תוּכַל לֹו כִּי ־ נָפֹול תִּפֹּול לְפָנָיו׃

6:13 καὶ διηγήσατο Ἀμὰν τὰ συμβεβηκότα αὐτῷ Ζωσαρὰ τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς φίλοις, καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ φίλοι καὶ γυνή εἰ ἐκ γένους Ἰουδαίων Μαρδοχαῖος, ἦρξαι ταπεινοῦσθαι ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ, πεσὼν πεσῇ· οὐ μὴ δύνῃ αὐτὸν ἀμύνασθαι, ὅτι θεὸς ζῶν μετ’ αὐτοῦ. 6:13 καὶ διηγήσατο Ἀμὰν τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ πάντα τὰ γενόμενα αὐτῷ, καὶ εἶπεν γυνὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ σοφοὶ αὐτοῦ Ἀφ’ ὅτε λαλεῖς περὶ αὐτοῦ κακά, προσπορεύεταί σοι τὰ κακά· ἡσύχαζε, ὅτι θεὸς ἐν αὐτοῖς.
6:13 And Aman related the events that had befallen him to Zosara his wife, and to his friends; and his friends and his wife said to him, If Mardochaios be of the race of the Jews, and you have begun to be humbled before him, you will assuredly fall, and you won’t be able to withstand him, for the living God is with him. 6:13 Haman explained to his wife everything that had happened to him. His wife and his wise men said, “Ever since you spoke evil about him, evil things have been coming to you; be quiet, because God is among them.”

6:14  And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

עֹודָם מְדַבְּרִים עִמֹּו וְסָרִיסֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ הִגִּיעוּ וַיַּבְהִלוּ לְהָבִיא אֶת ־ הָמָן אֶל ־ הַמִּשְׁתֶּה אֲשֶׁר ־ עָשְׂתָה אֶסְתֵּר׃

6:14 ἔτι αὐτῶν λαλούντων παραγίνονται οἱ εὐνοῦχοι ἐπισπεύδοντες τὸν Ἀμὰν ἐπὶ τὸν πότον, ὃν ἡτοίμασεν Ἐσθήρ. 6:14 καὶ αὐτῶν λαλούντων παρῆν τις ἐπὶ τὸν πότον σπουδάζων αὐτόν· καὶ οὕτως ἱλαρώθη καὶ πορευθεὶς ἀνέπεσε μετ’ αὐτῶν ἐν ὥρᾳ.
6:14 While they were yet speaking, the chamberlains arrived, to hurry Aman to the banquet which Esther had prepared. 6:14 While they were still speaking, someone arrived hurrying him to the wine party. And so he was cheered up, and when he had covered the distance, he reclined with them on time.
