1 And there came two angels to Sodom at evening; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom; and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, surrounded the house around, both old and young, all the people from every quarter.

5 And they called to Lot, and said to him, “Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.”

7 And said, “please, brothers, do not so wickedly.

9 And they said, “Stand back.” And they said again, “This fellow came in to stay, and he wants to be a judge: now will we deal worse with you, than with them.” And they pressed hard on the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

9 And they said to him, “Move away there! Didn’t you come in to dwell as a resident alien, and not be a judge? Now to judge, therefore, we will hurt you more than them.” And they were acting very violently to the man, Lot, and they were about to shatter the door.	9 And they said to him, “Move away there! 10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.

11 And they smote the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great; so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12 And the men said to Lot, “Have you here any besides? Son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of this place.

12 And the men said to Lot, “Is there anyone with you here–son-in-law or sons or daughters? 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is grown great before the face of Yahweh; and Yahweh has sent us to destroy it.”

14 And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, “Up, get you out of this place; for Yahweh will destroy this city.” But he seemed as one who mocked to his sons-in-law.

14 And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law who took his daughters, and said, “Get up, and get out of this place, for the Lord is about to wipe out the city. 15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hurried Lot, saying, “Arise, take your wife, and your two daughters, who are here; lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city.”

16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters; Yahweh being merciful to him; and they brought him forth, and set him outside the city.

17 And it happened, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, “Escape for your life; don’t look behind you, neither stay in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed.”

18 And Lot said to them, “Oh, not so, my Lord.

19 Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have showed to me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die.

19 ἐπειδὴ εὗρεν ὁ παῖς σου ἔλεος ἐναντίον σου καὶ ἐμεγάλυνας τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου, ὃ ποιεῖς ἐπ’ ἐμέ, τοῦ ζῆν τὴν ψυχήν μου, ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ δυνήσομαι διασωθῆναι εἰς τὸ ὄρος, μὴ καταλάβῃ με τὰ κακὰ καὶ ἀποθάνω,	19 ἐπειδὴ εὗρεν ὁ παῖς σου ἔλεος ἐναντίον σου καὶ ἐμεγάλυνας τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου, ὃν ποιεῖς ἐπ’ ἐμὲ τοῦ ζῆν τὴν ψυχήν μου, ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ δυνήσομαι διασωθῆναι εἰς τὸ ὄρος, μήποτε καταλάβῃ με τὰ κακὰ καὶ ἀποθάνω.

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape to that place, (isn’t it a little one?) and my soul shall live.”

20 Behold this city is near for me to escape there, which is a small one, and I will be preserved there, isn’t it little? 21 And he said to him, “See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I won’t overthrow this city, for which you have spoken.

22 Hurry, escape to that place; for I cannot do anything till you be come to that place.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23 The sun was risen on the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
