Genesis

1 And Abraham journeyed from there toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and stayed in Gerar.

2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister”; and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

2 εἶπεν δὲ Ἁβραὰμ περὶ Σάρρας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν· ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι, γυνή μού ἐστιν, μήποτε ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως δι’ αὐτήν. ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ βασιλεὺς Γεράρων καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν Σάρραν.	2 εἶπε δὲ Ἁβραὰμ περὶ Σάρρας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἀδελφή μου ἐστίν· ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι γυνή μου ἐστί, μή ποτε ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως δι’ αὐτήν. ἀπέστειλε δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ, βασιλεὺς Γεράρων, καὶ ἔλαβε τὴν Σάρραν.
2 And Abraham said concerning Sarra his wife, “She is my sister,” for he feared to say, “She is my wife,” lest at any time the men of the city might kill him because of her. 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Behold, you are but a dead man, for the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.”

3 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Ἀβιμέλεχ ἐν ὕπνῳ τὴν νύκτα καὶ εἶπεν, ἰδοὺ σὺ ἀποθνῄσκεις περὶ τῆς γυναικός ἧς ἔλαβες αὕτη δέ ἐστιν συνῳκηκυῖα ἀνδρί.	3 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ Θεὸς πρὸς Ἀβιμέλεχ ἐν ὕπνῳ τὴν νύκτα καὶ εἶπε· ἰδοὺ σὺ ἀποθνήσκεις περὶ τῆς γυναικός, ἧς ἔλαβες, αὕτη δέ ἔστι συνῳκηκυῖα ἀνδρί.

4 But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will you slay also a righteous nation?”

6 And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart; for I also withheld you from sinning against me; therefore I did not allow you to touch her.

7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for you, and you shall live; and if you don’t restore her, know that you shall surely die, you, and all that are yours.”

8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears; and the men were very afraid.

8 καὶ ὤρθρισεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τὸ πρωῒ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐλάλησεν πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτῶν, ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι σφόδρα.	8 καὶ ὤρθρισεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τῷ πρωῒ καὶ ἐκάλεσε πάντας τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐλάλησε πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτῶν, ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι σφόδρα.

9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? And in what have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that anything not to be done.”

9 And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What is this that you have done to us? Did we sin against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done a deed to me which no one should do.”	9 And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What is this that you have done to us? 10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”

11 And Abraham said, “Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.

12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

13 And it happened, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her, ‘This is your kindness which you shall show to me; at every place where we shall come, say of me, “He is my brother.”’ ”

13 ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἐξήγαγέν με ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ εἶπα αὐτῇ, ταύτην τὴν δικαιοσύνην ποιήσεις ἐπ’ ἐμέ· εἰς πάντα τόπον, οὗ ἐὰν εἰσέλθωμεν ἐκεῖ, εἰπὸν ἐμὲ ὅτι, ἀδελφός μού ἐστιν.	13 ἐγένετο δέ, ἡνίκα ἐξήγαγέ με ὁ Θεὸς ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ εἶπα αὐτῇ· ταύτην τὴν δικαιοσύνην ποιήσεις εἰς ἐμέ, εἰς πάντα τόπον οὗ ἐὰν εἰσέλθωμεν ἐκεῖ, εἰπὸν ἐμέ, ὅτι ἀδελφός μου ἐστίν.

14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored to him Sarah his wife.

15 And Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you: dwell where it pleases you.”

16 And to Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother 1000 pieces of silver: behold, he is to you a covering of the eyes, to all that are with you, and with all other.” Thus she was reproved.

16 And to Sarra he said, “Look! I have given 1000 double-drachmas to your brother, those are for you for the honour of your face and all women with you; and declare the truth about all things.”	16 And to Sarra he said, “Look! 17 So Abraham prayed to God; and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they gave birth to children.

18 For Yahweh had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.
